I taste plastic in my VG(?)
submitted almost 6 years ago by rupatsn

Hey Folks! My name is Robert, i am from austria, stopped smoking and started vaping this april. I started mixing almost on my second bottle.

Today i mixed a bottle of juice and after adding the VG i was accidentally dropping VG on my desk. I took it on my finger and licked it. What i tasted was sweet plastic. Does VG somehow taste like plastic?

I think what i tasted are my bottles... I store my VG and PG in bottles like this. (sorry, german ;-) These are LDPE Laboratory Bottles. Which bottles, or which material are you using?

Thank you!

You wiped it off your desk and tasted it?

I'd be more likely to suspect cleaning product residue from your desk surface.

Lab bottles by their nature are not supposed to contaminate their contents. No lab would want to use them if they contaminate what they hold.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, that’s what i thought when i ordered them.

I should have said that i afterwards tasted a drop from the bottle itself and the taste was the same. When i was hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail, i drank water from water caches - PET-bottles filled with water, which sometimes have been laying a few days in the sun. The taste of this water was somehow the same. I think i have to taste my VG in my 10 Liter can. I really hope it’s not the can.

Ooh. Tin is usually lined with a plastic... That could be bad.

My VG is stored in a 10 Liter plastic can (ister), in the dark of my more or less cool basement. And from all i have read this should be fine. I will taste my VG in a few days. We will see! Thanks anyways!

It does have a plastic like sweet flavor. You have nothing to worry about

VG does have a slight taste to it, but its just a very slight sweet taste.

I definitely agree with /u/juthnic on the idea about you're probably tasting something you picked up from your desk. I'm using LDPE Bottles and don't get a plastic taste at all.

One thing you can do is get some silicon mats to mix on, they are really easy to clean and are safe to use. It is also nice to be able to quickly clean up after you are done and can turn nearly any area into a vape mixing station. Hope this helps :D happy vaping, I also agree with the others you have nothing to worry about and those bottles you are using are top notch and you should be good to go :D

I've used both LDPE and PET(?) bottles. I hadn't noticed any tase difference between them, but have only used flavored/mixed liquid from them. I prefer the LDPE for the softer body and the nozzles have been easier to remove without damaging to refill.
