Reformulating commercial freebase to nic salts
submitted almost 6 years ago by Yawzers

I have a lot of 70/30 vg/pg 3mg freebase ejuice that I really like. I've completely switched to using just the Caliburn. The juice is a little thick to use in it. I was wondering if it's a safe and/or a viable option to add pg based nic salts to it? My goal is to get the juice to somewhere between 60/40 and 50/50, while at the same time increasing the nicotine level. Will this taste bad or really muted? Also, could someone give me an example of how much to add to the 120 ml to get to make it 60/40 and/or 50/50? I was thinking of buying 100 mg/ml pg based nic salts. When I dilute it down to 60/40 or 50/50, what will the nicotine levels end up being? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice!

Get yourself some 250mg PG based Nic salts. The less volume you add, the closer it will be to the original taste.

Have you actually tried the juice in the Caliburn yet? The reason I ask is I've using 70/30 in the Caliburn exclusively since I bought it. It works just fine, although if you're increasing nic concentration anyway, then disregard.

No matter what you do to the juice, though, you'll be diluting it, but if you must, get 250mg/mL PG nic salts. You could turn that 120mL of 3mg/mL into 12mg/mL by only adding roughly 4.5mL of the nicotine concentrate. It would hardly change the taste at all.

You might think it works just fine since you've been using 70/30 exclusively since you bought it. If you try 60/40 or 50/50 you'll get more life out of it and realize 70/30 wasn't quite as good in the caliburn as you previously thought

That's certainly possible, but given how huge the Caliburn's wicking slots are (for a pod system), I kind of doubt it. I've been more than satisfied with the pod life up to now, but I'll keep it in mind for future tests. I'll mix up some 50/50 and see if I notice any difference.

You surely will. My gf and I used 50/50 for the longest time and theyd last forever. Ran out of 50/50 and had to start using 70/30 temporarily. The pods started lasting about 2 weeks give or take a few days. Compared to them previously lasting around a month give or take a few days

Thanks for your response! I tried to use an ejuice calculator, but couldn't figure it out since I'm not exactly starting from scratch. Do you know what the vg/pg ratio would be after adding the 4.5 ml?

It would be roughly 67.4% VG and 32.6% PG.

If you really did want to change the ratio to a lower amount, you could use a less concentrated nicotine, like 100mg/mL, but then you'd also be diluting the flavor more.

Find a juice calculator and punch in your numbers. I think that you will be fine.

Unfortunately, that source is pretty much all nonsense and misinformation.

Reminds of that online shop that had an "info" page on why DIY was a no good, very bad, terrible thing to do and why you should absolutely not even attempt to make your own liquids. Can't remember their name offhand. anyone?

I remember exactly what you're talking about and you're spot on. Can't actually link them but if you search "Aspen valley diy" it's the first result.

I don't see any reason why this should not work and I do it all the time.I mix most of my juices with 3mg freebase and then add 3mg of salt if I want to use them with the caliburn and not subohm tanks.

Edit: Just noticed the article is about blending juices and not using both types of nicotine within your mixes. While it might make sense for mixing juices, I don't think it applies to mixing your own and using both types of nicotine.

Most of what they say in that "article" doesn't apply to reality.
