I was wondering if CAP super sweet is safe to vape as lately the fructose danger in flavorings rised.
I recommend watching DIYorDIE's video on sucralose (the sweetener in Cap Super Sweet), he actually speaks to a chemist about an interesting study done on the topic. After listening to this I certainly considered stopping putting sucralose in my juice, but just can't stay away from that sweet lips feeling it gives.

After watching that video a few months ago I started using SteviaClear Sweet Drops (NR) in place of SS. Stevia to me, seems a well enough replacement for super sweet in recipes that require SS-type sweetness. It's not perfect. Slightly less potent, may mute more so than SS at higher %s and murders coils just as much. But, so far stevia seems the "safer" route.
I have not personally seen enough evidence that it should concern you, however certainly worth keeping an eye on. I would suggest just using moderation(of course this applies regardless). There is a lot of misinformation and scare tactics going on. I personally dont use much in the way of adding sweeteners however I carry several kinds in case I get someone who requests it. So, I suppose the answer would be yes and no LOL. I honestly feel that it is perfectly safe, at least as far as the research I have seen and my own personal experience. I hope this helps... Happy Vaping :D
I believe the science says that sucralose heated above 100°C produces formaldehyde-producing agents, you can use sweeteners if you really want (so long as you don't roast your coil to a crisp), but some diy recipes really don't need it, I've stopped using it entirely just to be safe
Those recipes don't call for sweetener because the flavoring already has sweetener in it.
Incorrect, or semi-correct depending on whether you consider EM a sweetener. A bunch of my flavorings contain EM, but there should be no sucralose in any of them. I know the Yellow Cake is packed with fructose, the Cocoa has cocoa particles in it, and some of those suckers contain furfyryl alcohol but I'm pretty darn sure they are all sucralose-free :)
So those recipes don't call for sweetener because they don't need it. They flavors themselves have various kinds of sweetness that once you learn how to use correctly does magic. Sucralose is mostly used as a easy way to paint over the cracks, kinda like how poorly seasoned food can be made decent by adding spices. If you nail the seasoning when cooking it in the first place you won't need to add salt. Same thing, kinda.
Also, don't fear EM. In moderation, of course, as with everything :)
I don't use sweetener and it really helped develop my palate, regardless of the dangers i just simply don't use it anymore
Yup you can make better flavors without using sweeteners. I'm vaping some store juice right now that's supposed to be blue raspberry and all I can taste is the sweetener.
Just mixed up a recipe with a lot of florals. Imagine vaping a flower shop, in a good way. The sweetness sits perfect thanks to a little FA Meringue and I also think the Hibiscus helps out. It's a much more controlled and palatable sweetness than sucralose. Use flavours to sweeten, so much better than sucralose :)
The past few years I have noticed my mouth getting really raw and irritated and I believe it's the sweetner in eliquid. When I first started vaping in 2012, the eliquid wasn't so sweet. I received my first order of diy supplies yesterday and made my first eliquid and it tastes so much better than anything I have vaped in a long time! It has super sweet in it but just a small amount. My mouth isn't irritated at all. I look forward to not using any extra sweetner at all.
Sucralose isn't lethal to you.
Just to your coils.
If you want the best sweeteners, your options are other sugar alcohols (xylitol, erythritol, etc.), stevia (Reb. A is the active ingredient), or monk crjit extract. Of course, many juices don't really need added sweetener...
What can you tell me about erythritol in vape flavoring? I know all about it from the "health food" side (I manage a health food department at the grocery store) dont bother googling cause I can do that, more asking for your opinions. I won't bring xylitol into my house cause I have curious dogs and I hate the taste, but erythritol is my favorite sugar alcohol in general
I've used a sweetener that contained erythritol (and Reb A and sucralose) but have never used straight erythritol. My understanding is that it has a sugar-like taste, but isn't all yhat much sweeter than VG so it is more useful in combination with other sweeteners. I mostly use stevia if I feel the need to add anything.
I like the taste commercial sweetener adds, but my lungs feel it when I am vaping super sweet juices probably because I vape a lot, if I was only using 2 ml a day or less I might not notice but I'll get short of breath for about 30 seconds after vaping some really sweet juice. That effect tends to creep up on me throughout a day of vaping and I have to change the juice I'm vaping.
2ml a day wooh boy I wish I was using that low of liquid lol I go through a 100ml in 2 to 3 weeks
Sucralose has a very high flashpoint, meaning that it wont burn like other sugars at vaping temperatures.
It can go nasty above 120ºC tho. See https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/sucralose-good-or-bad#baking. What worries me the most there is the interaction with glycerol (VG) creating chloropropanols, especially considering 70/30 juice. Just too many questionmarks for me...
Common sweeteners use sucralose iirc which is fine for the most part.
So what your saying is that sucralose doesnt release toxic chemicals when burned?
Everything releases toxic chemicals when burned. That's sort of the main effect of burning things.
A simple explanation that I knew, but never actually took the time to think about. That is why we vape. We're still waiting for the final research on just how much safer vaping might be over smoking, but at least we aren't puffing on burning plant matter any more
Sucralose isn't a sugar, it's a sugar alcohol. Different chemistry. It won't burn at vaping temps.
‘Sucralose is produced by a multi-step patented chemical process that replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups with three chlorine atoms. The replacement with chlorine atoms intensifies the sweetness to 600 times more than table sugar and contain zero calories’
A brand you’ll definitely know is Splenda for example. I’ve seen compelling evidence that artificial sweeteners aren’t really great for you long term. Pretty sure they did a study with mice and Sucralose was found to induce cancerous bio markers when ingested.
Can only wonder what effect it has on your lungs.
Cap super sweet has two preservatives in it. Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate.
There are conflicting studies on sodium Benzoate possibly converting to benzene under the right circumstances.
Potassium Sorbate may affect dna.. This also has conflicting studies.
For what it is worth, FLV goes out of their way to mention "Does not contain beverage preservatives such as citric acid, sodium citrate, potassium sorbate, and sodium benzoate" on Sweetness.
Personally, I stopped using super sweet and use another sweetener that is only sucralose and pg or triacetin.
I got sick of the amount of sweeteners in shop juices. I diy my coils, you know somethings up when your coil gunks up after 2 days use. The residue whatever it use doesn't vaporise, it burns off producing smoke. You know that smell when you dry burn after removing old wick before putting a new one in. I was prepared to go unflavoured, but i gave menthol crystals a try diying my own juice, they carry flavours like sweeteners do and my coils last a few weeks now.
This is one of the reasons I went DIY. When I first started vaping, the flavors weren't just pure sweetener. Now days it seems like sweet is the primary flavor ;) LOL
