5 year old juice / nic. Does it go bad?
submitted almost 6 years ago by mindlessMiss

hey guys

wanting to get back into vaping and will have to wait a couple of weeks before I can buy some new stuff.

I have a box of various liquids left over from 5 years ago (I went back to smoking cigarettes)

I assume the stuff goes off? some of the flavours have gone very dark, others look the same.

I have also a half used bottle of 100mg/ml PG. is it a bad idea to use it?

I will get new stuff eventually just a bit broke right now lol

thanks

When you get new nicotine get 100ml dark amber glass bottles also. Divide the larger nic into the 100ml bottles then put them all in the freezer. This way when mix you're only thawing a small amount at a time

How was everything stored? Flavors go bad in the sense that they can lose their potency which is gonna throw off your ratios in recipes. I have not of them turning harmful though.

If the nicotine was not kept in a freezer, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be bad at this point.

Oxygen and sunlight are the main enemies. Squeeze the bottle to see if it's truly airtight or if it escapes easily. At the end of the day it's probably considerably oxidized which means it's going to be harsh. To my knowledge we don't know why it gets harsh, just that it's a characteristic of oxidization over time.

For all we know, it could be worse for you now in this harsh state. All things considered It's probably still a heck of alot safer than smoking though so no harm in giving it a shot to save a few bucks. Cold turkey is the best policy to stay away from your cigarette habit of course.

Single flavour test the flavours you want to use before you do a batch. Shelf life is purportedly a couple of years, but they will be safe, and may still be fine.

PG/VG may have taken on moisture which won't be great, but they will still be useable.

Personally I'd do zero nic if it has gone dark, but it's up to you ...
