Tries to mix my first bottle and need help
submitted almost 6 years ago by Matt24138

So I botched this one. I was using a scale and a 10ml syringe. Do you guys just do drops for nic and flavor until you hit weight? Pg went fine. Then came vg. Was so thick I couldn't get it in the syringe. Had to use a funnel and man did I make a mess.

I am within .3 g of my target so I think it's vapable but man there has got to be a decent way to do this. Please offer advice.

No syringes, buy large unicorn bottles for your PG/VG/nicotine if they don't come in them already.

Then just squirt into the juice bottle, slow down to drips as you approach your target weight.

What size do you use?

I use 250ml bottles with with a cap that twists open, sort of like the cap on a bottle of Elmer's glue. Really easy to control the flow. I use 100ml ones for my juice as well. No unscrewing caps or dealing with droppers.

Try to get LDPE ones rather than PET ones, they're softer and easier to squeeze. They last longer as well.

Will do!! So you make 100ml juice at a time then I'm assuming? That's kinda what I was thinking I would try to do when I get to that point.

any idea where to source caps like that. i've been having the worst time with screw on caps and would LOVE to move away from them.

I use condiment bottles from Dollar General.

I use 60 ml HDPE bottles for my PG and VG, and then a 10 ml bottle for my nic.

I actually pour my VG from a very large 500 ml bottle with an adjustable tip (what it came in ) until I get close, then top it off from my 60 ml bottle.

go to the store, buy one of those clear plastic 'condiment' bottles wth the cone tip for a couple of bucks put your vg in that and thank me later :) You can also cut a little more off the top to get it to flow faster. VG is thick, and depending on the diameter of the syringe you may be sitting there for hours trying to make that work. if you use a funnel you have to go slow and make sure the funnel isn't restricting the air flow coming back out of the bottle. It's a pain.

If you're using a scale you shouldn't need a syringe for anything. Get some condiment bottles at Walmart and put VG and PG in those.

VG should be your final ingredient and just add to complete the total volume/weight.

I grabbed some small beakers for pouring. 10ml/20ml

3ml syringe is a decent size. No needle

I do volume mostly, but drops are very inaccurate. If you do a tiny batch, scales are far superior. As w/ small amounts, variances end up being far more noticeable

I mixing 100 ml at a time. Does the 3ml break down so I could clearly see say 1.8 ml

Why are you bothering with syringes if you have a scale?

I personally still use syringes as I have a couple of flavours that don't have dropper tips and the pg bottle has a quite a funny shape to it so usually ends up going everywhere, but most of it I do with glass droppers I got off amazon

I am picking up squeeze bottles this weekend

Mine does 0.1ml markings, but sometimes the outside ink doesn't last long when immersed in flavorings/PG

I generally use my 10ml graduated beaker for that and just do the top of the bubble at 2ml (meniscus)

Bottom of bubble on 2ml line = 2ml

For weight, often you can use squeeze dropper bottles to add small amounts without using some measuring device in between. Just a scale + bottles

I find scales best for sure. I bought my first PG and VG in 500ml bottles with drip caps. I just refill those as needed from gallon jugs now. I also separate my nic into 120ml amber glass to store. Use as needed.

All flavors come in decent dripper bottles already.

Mix all PG first, then add VG last. Little practice, and you'll notice a difference.

Get clear condiment bottles for your pg and vg

My vg bottles come with a screw cap dispenser tip. Kind of like a bottle of Sriracha. I used to do it by volume with a 10 ml syringe with no tip.

I use a 120ml unicorn bottle for VG. Yeah, it's time consuming, but with the one ounce bottles I usually mix in, the neck is quite narrow.

Liquid barn sells there pg/vg in 500 ml bottles with a screw cap, just twist and pour, very easy. Believe if you get a big enough bottle or nicotine it has the same thing.

I just mixed my first batch of e liquid for the first time this past weekend and I used pipettes for dropping into the bottle. Worked pretty good for the vg. I was only doing 10ml bottles though and tried doing 1 30ml. I used a scale to do mine as well.

I find if you don't use any end piece on the syringe, a standard 1cc syringe works fine with VG :) I only do smallish batches but I'm sure you could find a larger one with a nice wide mouth too.

I'm thinking the problem I have is the bottles I bought. It is a narrow opening. Soni couldn't fit the syringe without the tip

Ah yeah, always worth getting a wide mouth bottle if you're mixing directly into it. The chubby gorilla ones are awesome. You can pour straight from the VG bottle into those

Where do you get your bottles been searching and not finding good value options?

I've just done my 2nd and 3rd 60ml bottles.. but I used a syringe I have no idea about the scales.. I'll just stay with the syringe

I was with you, in theory, until I mixed my first batch. Then I immediately went on Amazon and ordered a <$20 scale. Huge qol improvement and made mixing 10ml 'testers' feasible. Really not hard to mix by weight. Put bottle on, tare the scale, drip to weight, then tare again and add next ingredient.

What syringe and size tip did you get? I couldn't figure out say 1.8 ml on mine. Or get the vg sucked up it was too thick.

by valefan89almost 6 years ago

I brought a 10ml syringe.. using the calculator I put more flavouring in to round all the ml's up so I wouldn't have to do 1.8 or anything like that..

I also brought pg and vg mixed in a bottle but brought a vg 10ml nic shot and made them 3mg

I'm still just learning but for now my way is ok for me

You cant just "round up" things...

Did you fill the syringe with the tip on? If so fill it without the tip. If your syringe cannot fit down inside your VG bottle because the VG is getting low then transfer the VG to a shorter bottle, bowl, mug.
