If your nicotine is 12mg / mL and you want 3mg, then you're looking to dilute it to 25% of its current strength. For 120mL bottle this would be 30mL.

30mL nicotine (12mg VG base)

66mL VG / VG-based flavoring

24mL PG / PG-based flavoring

That'd give you 120mL of 3mg 80/20, though I would very much recommend buying a scale to measure by weight and using an e-liquid calculator to make the process much simpler in the future.

So I would need a 500ml bottle, fill it with 360ml of vg and pour my 120ml bottle of nic into it then store it in the freezer?

Store your nic in the freezer as-is (maybe in smaller bottles), no need to dilute it first. Also, your suggestion would give you a 3mg base, but it would get further diluted by adding PG / flavors and you would end up closer to 2.4mg.

Splitting your nic into smaller bottles also means you can keep one thawed with your kit and replace every time it gets empty. Trust me, you don't want to try mixing with frozen VG (I have made this mistake).

For reference (others may differ) my kit includes:

Scale

500mL squeeze bottle of VG

500mL squeeze bottle of PG

One small glass bottle of 100mg nic with an eyedropper

Various bottles of flavoring

Add nic first to make sure you get the right volume / weight, then add your flavors. Give it a nice little swirl to blend things together a bit before adding PG / VG and then cap it and give the whole bottle a real good shake, until you see bubbles suspended in the liquid. Leave it in a cool, dark place to steep, or enjoy it right away for a shake-and-vape recipe. Be extra careful with your nic, wash your hands immediately if you get any on your skin (many wear gloves to mix). That shit's no joke.

And if that's the case then if I put 30ml of nic into my 120ml bottles would that be 3%

Correct. If 25% of the total solution is 12mg nic, then your end result will be 12 * .25 = 3mg.

yep. exactly that.

Any reason you got 12mg nicotine in VG? Also, you are going to want to get some 10 or 15ml bottles for testing recipes. You aren’t going to want to make 120ml of something you’ve never tried.

Are you making 50/50, 70/30, etc?

What’s the recipe you are trying to make?

I went for 12 because I didnt want alot of nic and didnt realize it would've been easier if I went for a different amount and I'm going for 80/20. The particular flavor I want is strawberry with white chocolate vanilla. I'm not really going for recipes because I want to play around with concentrates to see what I like and what I can come up with

Probably not the best decision out of the gate. You also should be using a juice calculator

Is that just to make sure my ratios are all correct?

I have made 1000ml of something I never tried.... it was delicous

That’s so dumb and pointless though. Why make 1000ml of something you might not even like when you can just make a sample size?

I usually do zero flavor and therefore had zero flavors at my disposal to try something out. I found a highly rated flavor in a flavor profile I wanted and bought the flavors and made the batch at 1L. It was great, if it sucked, I would have just diluted it and added more nic. It is the only flavor I will ever make again. Maybe it was supposed to be a york mint paddy, chocolate, custard, peppermint, menthol and koolada iirc.

For transparency, I dislike 75% of the juices I buy, which is not very often, way too sweet most of the time

There's a great program you can download for free that allows you to add up to 10 flavours plus nic to calculate what % to make up any recipe...it's called ejuicemeup.
