I've been using TPA's Apple flavoring in a mix lately that's been one of my all-time favorites. I noticed it contained Polysorbate 20, however, and that isn't an ingredient I've noticed in flavorings I've used in the past.
Polysorbate 80 is about all I can find online, and it seems some are citing that 80 is potentially dangerous. Others are citing that it's used in inhalers and has been used to treat lung cancers.
Seems like it's a bit of a wash to me, but does anyone here have any knowledge on the subject?
It's common in food - it's an emulsifier.
Polysorbate 20 is used as a wetting agent in flavored mouth drops such as Ice Drops, helping to provide a spreading feeling to other ingredients like SD alcohol and mint flavor.
The World Health Organization has suggested acceptable daily intake limits of 0–25 mg of polyoxyethylene sorbitan esters per kg body weight.[3]
