Does vg go bad?
submitted almost 6 years ago by Skyttlz

I found some unopened in a box from 2012 (was from a completely seperate hobby/school) its beenvin movimg boxes since then and ofte dark places with mixed temps. There is an expiry date on it for like 2015 but here in canada we need to have expiry/bb4 dates on everything, and it feels like a waste to throw it out if (and only if) its still ok to use? Or does anyone have any ideas what else to use it for haha

If it's been sealed the entire time and doesn't smell funky, I'd say give it a shot. AFAIK it doesn't break down into anything bad it just ends up absorbing moisture and odor over time until it becomes thin and rank. Or, if you're worried about it, buy some new VG. It is the cheapest component anyway.

This. I pay around £4 for 2.5 litres of vg.

Honestly I would say it is more than likely ok, as long as it looks clean and doesn't smell. I would probably not vape it but VG has TONS of uses, It would still make great soap, you can also use it for other projects or if you wanted to use a small amount to test it in a batch of juice to see. I would personally use it for a less direct internal ingestion and considering its other uses I certainly encourage that you look into those avenues first but If it were your only option it more than likely would be alright. Again though I would advise against using it as a vape liquid, more because its usually best to order fresh ingredients for better juice in general. It might be perfectly safe but taste awful. Anyway Soap ;) its fun it will let you use the glycerin and its really easy. Or look up the bazillion uses it has LOL. Sorry a bit loopy been up all night in a lot of pain.

oh thanks!!! I never thought about soap. i have about a litre of the stuff and was worried about vaping it but really didn't want it to end up in the landfills hahaha. I have some new stuff for vaping, though cuz I live in the same town as a diy place so i don't need to pay shipping so its super cheap :P

In Canada If it's labeled glycerine and not USP grade vegetable glycerine or USP grade propylene glycol then it contains animal fats and should be thrown out. Since none of us here are chemists "probably okay" shouldn't be reassuring in any way. I'd reccomend you just buy new VG because it's so cheap and I don't feel comfortable telling you otherwise.

VG is pretty cheap. I would just toss it and get a new one

Lol I mean vg is like a couple bucks at Walgreens but idk vape it and see what happens. Personally I wouldn’t chance it but it’s probably not gonna hurt you.

Pour it into your Halloween smoke/fog machine.

not sure if this is a real response or a joke response. i don't own a fog machine, but i can always donate it to someone who does if this is legit and won't break it.

Yes it's real. The main ingredient in fog machine "smoke" is VG. A fog machine is basicly a giant vape mods. Fog fluids have two primary ingredients – an active one and deionized water. The active ingredient can be propylene glycol, triethylene glycol, glycerin or a mixture of these. The vaporization temperature varies for these ingredients, so you should use a fog machine that is compatible with the fluid you have
