My DIY juice shaker rig - $15
submitted almost 6 years ago by aberz0202

YouTube link

This is my first attempt to build a juice shaker rig that can shake 10+ 30ml bottles at a time.

Pretty simple and parts are cheap and easy to find.

Look ghetto but work out quite well, shizzton of bubbles, with all standard features: on/off button, a fuse for safety, voltage regulator for variable speed. Going from 0 to bonker in 1 second lol.

Thinking about hacking a bracket onto the base so I can slap it on a desk or hold it with a 5 pounds weight so it doesn’t run around haha.

Cons: noisy as fcuk. At maximum speed, the motor get hot after a few mins.

You literally put the DIY in DIY

Would never make it but I love it. Nice work :)

It's neat, but I don't understand the urge to make shaking/mixing devices. If you can jack or jill off, you can shake up your juice just fine without any gizmos.

But what if someone uses a gizmo for that, as well? They might not have the energy.

Good point

A/ thats the point, Id prefer to save the REAL hand shake for the shake that matter most. That’s why I built this gizmo for the boring shake.

B/ I thought you like strap on. Strap a plastic love stick on this to make the ladies smile. Might need to upgrade the motor for better torque tho.

Ha ha thanks. I am thinking about adding a heat bed/pad/bath but not sure it would really help steeping .

Heat is an interesting variable but it's one that's generally not worth including when shake and wait works much, much more consistently.

Yeah. Shaking is the reason why I built this. Shaking a dozen+ bottles daily/every few days is really annoying. I can hook this up to a timer and let the rig do the job for me.

How about UV ? Ive seen some juice factory/lab have UV set up, you think it would help ? Adding UV lights is simple and cheap, much easy than heat bath

Made me think of one of these https://i.imgur.com/PuORKxW.png. Yeah, I'm old.

Just build a dual asymmetric centrifuge.

Here's one blending 3 different colored balls of playdough

This is beyond me lol

  1. Attach a pipe flange to the bottom side of a platform at dead center.
  2. Secure a 45* ramp to one end of the top side of the platform.
  3. Secure a hand drill to the 45* ramp.
  4. Secure a counter weight to the opposite end of the top side of the platform.
  5. Screw a pipe into the pipe flange.
  6. Put juice container in the hand drill on the ramp.
  7. Use a second hand drill to rotate platform in the forward direction while the hand drill on the ramp rotates the juice container in the reverse direction.

Taking note, in case I get bored again lol

I would love a video of you making this

I always kicked around the idea of making a rotisserie style mixer.

Like a hotdog roller?

*edit - I did make something similar a while ago for a single bottle. I used a motor and reduction gearbox out of my girlfriends old rotating vibrator/dildo. Worked great until the motor burnt out.

Lol yea something like that.

I laughed uncontrollably when it started making the noise, not sure why.... Great invention though!

At least it brought you a good laugh

It'd be really cool to see a parts list and cost breakdown on this.

I don't really see this as something I need, but it looks as though it could be a fun project.

In my town there are places/shops that I can buy used/salvaged electronics parts for cheap, so not too sure about cost breakdown.

Here is the list of important parts: 775 Dc motors 12v.

LM 2596 voltage regulator/speed controller board.

12v wall adapter power supply

Rail/silders is from the drawer of an old desk

2 plastic food containers

14mm flywheel, Nuts, bolts, washers, wire, led light, plastic bar (lever arm), fuse and other stuff I stole from my buddy motorcycle shop. I gave him a bottle of juice for them lol.

Hope that helps. I have a novice skill in this diy stuff, you probably gonna do a much better job.

If you can build that just fine, I'm sure the learning curve for this will be less for you than it is for other beginners lol

I am just a tinkerer. I learn most stuff myself to do it myself. The concept/design is quite simple to be honest. But it took some trial and failure for me to figure out. Any skilled guy can take a look at it and point out flaws/improvement. It was a fun project anyway.

Really cool project. I think adding a flexible motor coupling between the motor and eccentric crank would decrease the noise and the heat of the motor at peak load. If you still have the top for the bin that is now the lower half of the device, just seal the lower half back up and put a weight inside when you close it up.

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

Damn. Great idea for the flexible motor coupling. /facepalm for not thinking about it. Thanks !

Dont bet on it, kinda lazy for a tutorial tho :(

It would probably work a lot better if the bottles were fixed somehow

2 points

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

Just stuff some foam/padding in there. At first I planned to do fasteners for each bottle, but this way it is more convenient.

2 points

by NameThatWasntTakenalmost 6 years ago

Exactly. Wasn't suggesting anything fancy. Just saying you could probably transfer more energy to the bottles and get a better mix.

1 points

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

True that haha. This prototype is a huge energy waster lol

this is a cool idea. i have boxes slightly bigger than atty boxes, and i just stand bottles up, shake a ton all at once.

keep us posted once you get this thing perfected!

2 points

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

I used to put a few bottles into a long sock and sling away lol

1 points

by ExplosiveRagralmost 6 years ago

that sounds like a good idea too haha

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

Yeah it was, till I got some shattered bottles and a few huge mess to clean up

My $60 shaker rig (but I already had the drill):

That's a centrifuge... It will separate your liquid ingredients more than homogenizing them. Use a reciprocating saw instead.

Juice shaker? I think you mean sex on a squeeky bed noise simulator. Although I admit I can't quite match it's top speed.

1 points

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

A friend already suggested me strap a dildo on it

2 points

by upboatugboatalmost 6 years ago

Only one small suggestion. You should buy a slab of foam and drill holes into it so you can have a bunch in there all organized and not get your bottles and labels scratched up from sliding around. If its for personal use, it's probably not important, but if your passing on product or selling it, you should consider a small modification.

I use this to mix up my juice, doubles as a smoothie maker, so it's got that going for it.

1 points

by aberz0202almost 6 years ago

Gonna be handy for stirring big batch

1 points

by doctorminkalmost 6 years ago

Yep, super handy. I use it before I put it in to simmer in hot water for 4 hours or so, and after when I mix in the nic.

I just tie a strong nylon string around it (reccomend constrictor hitch for this) and put the ends in the chuck of my drill and spin tf out of it both directions.

EDIT: Puh-lease put some silicone ltraxxas lube on that whole system too if you plan on keep using it lol
