As the title suggests. I absolutely made my first juices! I made three of which I thought would be fairly simple. Honey dew melon menthol. A Pistachio Ice cream and an Earl Grey Dragon fruit (with condensed milk). They are absolutely NOT perfect, but they are vapeable and I am so proud. I want to thank everyone here for their kindness getting us all on the bandwagon.
I have some questions about tweaking them but that's another post. I feel if I just play with the ratios they could be delicious. And time steeping of course. I do have a generic question about over flavoring them though. My earl grey was super strong (still good, but could be lighter). I read through the diy beginners' stuff and I propose a category for perhaps 'fixing' botched batches? If you want to dilute flavor strengths is best just start over? Or can we dilute say by adding more of vg or pg? I realize this dilutes the nicotine as well, so that must be considered. I'd love to hear some DIY fixes for the common blunders. And THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE! I'm in business. It really was alot easier than I thought it was going to be.
Yes you can add more pg/vg and nic to fix it. I have more diy juice on hand right now and for a fraction of the price of store bought juice. Big tip is make small batches 10mil batches until you get the recipe to your liking then go all out and make a 120. And sure, tweek the recipe in small batches.
Congrats and welcome to the rabbit hole :)
You were very brave to start mixing your own creations right off the bat. It’s highly recommended that you start off by mixing highly rated recipes and SFTing your flavors first so you get a better idea of how the flavors taste on their own and work together. That may have helped you to avoid making the tea so strong lol.
As for diluting it, you are correct. You can add VG/PG, but that’s going to dilute your nicotine content AND the other flavors so everything will be weaker.
I will probably backtrack and go to some well known recipes now. But I couldn't help it. The flavors I ordered were all based on some very weird juices that I loved and I knew they'd be hard to replicate. But I got close enough to call it a success. Of course now I have to order some more normal flavors. And I was oddly surprised too because I don't have any sweetener. I think that would help bring up the flavors some. I'm not a fan of any super sweet or candies, so I didn't think I'd need it. Well... It's called a rabbit hole for a reason. Haha!
Don't bother with sweetener if you're ok without it. If you want to make candyish juices, maybe some stevia (it's coil friendly).
And don't worry about mixing your own recipes - some of us have no choice, if we can't find recipes that appeal to us.
sweetner is hit and miss for people
it helps some people taste fruit flavours
others hate it and there is more than 1 sweetener
ethyl maltol which is cotton candy and can mute flavours like a bitch
sucralose is love it or hate it
and stevia pyure which I have not tried
by the way avoid real sugar and flavours with real sugar! (not sucralose)
its a health hazard
Congratulations! You're about to save so much money!! It costs about $1.50 to make what you've been paying $20 for. Aaaaannnnddd, you make what you like, not settle for what they sell!
> Aaaaannnnddd, you make what you like, not settle for what they sell!
Very true. Made a juice and it doesnt have enough kick on the raspberry flavour? Add a few drops more and make a note of it. Made a juice that is too bitter/tart? Add another flavour that compliments the others to balance it or a bit of sweetener. Made 30ml of juice that just tastes like crap? Ehhh, throw it out and make another.
You ALMOST never have to waste a failed creation there is always a way to make it better by adding stronger flavours or just dilute and recycle
If something is too strong yea just dilute and add NIC
if its disgusting you don't have to dump it.
just dilute it to the extreme, or add a strong flavor like menthol or custard or Inawera fruit flavors
You will see that your tastes will change as you vape and also overflavoring is the most common cause of flavour loss ironically
you also can be sensitive to certain flavours
ex/ people can use TFA coconut extra at 1% but i only need point .1%
same with alot of INW fruits
DIY is a hell of a lot of fun this way, its very creative and cheap and we all share recipes

edit: ill also emphasize kingpin's point
buy lots of 10ml tester bottles and use those before a big batch
you can also buy a scale and mix by weight
I say use 30 ml testers. 10ml is too hard for me to measure
well it's fine like i said you can almost always recycle failed experiments
so go crazy and if you find something you REALLY like
you can post it here, ELR or ATF
by the way you might want to register on https://forum.e-liquid-recipes.com/
IMO it is the friendliest forum around, many extremely experienced people will help you there if you need it.
they LOVE helping beginners because its another vote for non-smokers and saved many of their own lives, its also a bit easier to maneuver than reddit
I made my first three flavors over the last week, too...
Like your's, they're vapeable, but I wasn't overly fond of them. My friend really likes them, though! Especially one of them, which he wants me to make a bigger batch of... We have completely different tastes, and none of his favorite juices are on my top 10 list.
I have an order coming in tomorrow from LNW, and it's going to be juice making day! I have two more complicated recipes that I am excited to try.
Good luck to you!
If you want to dilute to make something tolerable (but not necessarily replicatable) it's pretty easy - mix up some unflavored, then blend your unflavored and the juice you need to dilute. Boom, no screwing up your nic level.
However, this will dilute every flavor. Mix the recipe without the one flavor (make a new recipe by copying the old one, rename it, remove the flavor to be diluted) and mix that, then blend it with the original juice - this will dilute only the one flavor. Again, not totally useful for recipe development, but if you're sure the only problem is the one flavor, it should allow you to have something vapable.
But yeah, it's best to just make a new batch.
what site do you use to order the stuff to make the juice?
where do I buy the equipment to make the juice
Equipment? You need a scale, a bottle to mix into (which you place on the scale), and then ingredients (nic base, VG, flavors, and maybe PG or a PG alternative if you don't want to mix max VG). That's all. As for where to get stuff... depends where you're from. If you're in murica, Nic River will have most of that and you can get the scale from Amazon.
I to just started diy and I found a few very good recipes on here....going to let them steep atleast a week...one is vestige clone which I absolutely love....the other is a coconut geloto which I fiddled with myself to make it more coconutty...then I also mixed up a couple simple 30mls like birthday cake and also a decent doughnut recipe I found on another site.has anyone ever used Scotties "butterscotch cookie one shot"?I've heard very good things about a few off of this site.they also sell "rose milk" which is a strawberry milk but I've already went all in and bought alot of flavors and smallest bottles I have are 30ml most are 60ml bottles.capella, flavor west, the flavor apprentice so on and so fourth.so if anyone has any kind of good tips or tricks or even good bakery recipes they would like to share with me im all ears.
