How long should I wait?
submitted about 6 years ago by jarchack

I'm definitely going to start doing DIY juices but I currently have enough from an online seller to last me for quite a few months. I know nobody is going to stop wholesalers from selling PG and VG but there is a tiny chance that nicotine could possibly be regulated at some point if this craze gets out of hand. Should I buy stuff now and just keep it in storage or will it still be viable to buy all the necessary DIY stuff online in a few months?

Do yourself a favor if you start DIYing. Buy a decent scale. I used syringes for yrs before making the switch to a scale. Now i can make juice in half the time and theres barely any clean up after.

Yep. Thats the one i have as well. Great scale for the $$. Though its very sensitive, i have to turn of my ceiling fan off completely so it doesn’t mess with the weight.

So try not to let the cat sit on it.

How does a scale speed up the process?

You just drip all the ingredients separately, directly into a bottle. Shake it, and you're done.

.

Pulling dropper tops off of flavor bottles sucks. I suppose if you have a really skinny needle you could go through the tip of the flavor bottle. But then you'd want to wash your syringe afterwards (or throw it away). The way I mix, there's usually nothing to clean up. Having a scale really makes things faster, but also WAY more convenient too.

I need a better scale. That's what I've learned here today.

You can rapid fire your flavorings in. I usually know exactly how hard to squeeze for a certain weight of juice, but the scale is my backup

maybe dip your toe in the water. DIY takes time to learn how to do. your juices will last longer while you catch up to the learning curve.

I've read quite a bit of stuff and watched a number of YouTube videos but just because you read cookbooks and watch cooking shows doesn't mean you can stroll into a kitchen and start cooking.

I knew there was going to be a learning curve. Hell, it took me quite a while to learn what regulated and unregulated mods were and the differences between various RTA's and RDAs and making coils and wicking and all that stuff. I don't even know what flavors to start with.

Yeah. Find the side bar and start reading. There’s also the stickied thread that you can see if you sort by ‘Hot’.

What I did was look up clones for liquids I already knew I liked and bought the flavors that I needed for those. You can make better use of your flavors if you get ones that work together through several recipes.

I basically like just about any dessert vape, so I can probably get away with 10 to 15 different flavors at most.

When I began mixing I looked at the highest rated recipes on e-liquidrecipes.com and AllTheFlavors, and bought the aromas that went with them. If you do that, you’ll eventually learn to know the aromas and will be able to cone up with recipes of your own.

Mixing might be a daunting task to learn, but if you do it by weight it’s quite easy.

One of my first purchases was going to be a scale. From the videos that I've seen it's basically start at 0, add the correct amount of nicotine, tare the scale, add PG, tare scale, add VG, tare again and add flavors. If I can pass organic chemistry I can do this.

Start now yo! Making your own juice is super fun, extremely easy, and far cheaper than buying juice from B&M/Online.

Might as well buy some now and get started. Nicotine will keep in a freezer for years.

Stocking up isnt the way to go since it all has a shelf life. Fighting back is the way.

True but you're fighting against politics, the medical establishment and public opinion... Good luck with that

Medical establishment isn't antivaping. Big Pharma is. Government (losing tobacco tax revenue) is. Antismoking groups also are. The general public mostly do what they're told.

Maybe the medical establishment isn't anti-vaping but I've seen all too many doctors on a variety of news broadcasts saying, "don't vape!, don't vape!". The news station likes it because it scares people and people only see those doctors and never the real facts behind vaping and THC cartridges. Perception is reality.

My advice is to setup an account on e-liquid-recipes.com Start looking at recipes and see what best fits your favorite flavor profile, select some of these recipes (preferable 4+ star rating from late 2016 onwards) and buy the flavors. VG and PG and other supplies shouldn't be an issue.

If you're concerned nicotine will be regulated, let me tell you that I have 125ml of 1000mg nicotine since 2 years ago and it's still working perfectly fine. I am not advocating for 1000mg nicotine. It's lethal and too dangerous to handle if you don't have safety equipment. But unfortunately I had to buy that or no nicotine at all at that time where I used to live.

Just make sure you put it in tight containers in the freezer (leaving a small gap for expansion) and it should last a lifetime.

Good luck!

I have 1000mg/ml solution too and that shit scares me everytime I need to use it. That shit can kill you or your pet with 1ml easily.

That shit you need safety equipment with. 100mg/ml you can get by just being cautious.. 1000mg/ml you can win a Darwin without too much effort.

Which is why I have safety equipment and a separate freezer out of children's reach. I also diluted it to 100mg/ml

My juices aren't very good until a nice long steep, like months. It's probably personal preference, or because i dont use sweetener, Idk why really but I'd say get into it sooner than later. Stocking up never hurts either imo

It’s easy. Nude nicotine. Perfumers apprentice. Syringes with large and small gauge blunt tip needles. Large brown glass bottles to mix in. Less is more with doing this. You’d be surprised, but adding more flavor actually blows out your tastebuds. Your juice will always taste better and you’ll learn to loathe the cheap store bought junk. Even your screwups will taste great.

Just get the order in and try it. It’s fun.

Actually OP ignore bad advice.

Scale bottles, VG, 100mg/ml nicotine in PG, and flavors (don't limit yourself to TFA, they have some good flavors, some ok, but only a handful of the best). Read flavor reviews. Pick the best. You know fflavors that work together IRL, you know flavors that go together in juices you like...so put those flavors together and you're likely gonna have something good.
