I have recipes I like and was thinking of making bigger batches to let them steep and have them ready when I need them.
they would be stored in the dark in air conditioned room in amber glass bottles with Phenolic Caps (polycone caps).
I guess my question is, should I be concerned about flavors going flat or the nicotine oxidizing on me while they're stored?
I know as time goes on when they're opened to extract to smaller bottles, air will get inside and cause oxidation
I'm just concerned about the loss of flavoring/taste
Probably depends on how much you vape. In my case that would probably last me a year and even if it's a good recipe I'd probably get quickly bored
I agree. I make 200ml at a time and break it up into smaller quantities, I once made 500ml of some really delicious coffee and have about 150ml of it left after 7 months. Had to move on. It's awesome but way too much after a week.
200ml is a huge batch for average vapers, it's cheap and great to make but burnout comes far quicker and having spare tanks and Coils to change it up is preferred.
I envy mixers who are totally happy with just three recipes in their books. But, hey.. if they're happy then I'm happy for them
1L would last me about 3 months. If you're sure of the recipe, go nuts.
What If i make the base?
VG,PG, and flavoring.
Then add the nic when i transfer it to smaller bottles?
That'd prevent nicotine oxidation
But would flavor go flat over time stored in the bigger bottles?
You will lose intensity in things like fruits and florals. Heavier stuff like desserts and creams will last longer. If you're going to do this, I'd mix in a large vessel and then immediately transfer into smaller bottles for storage. Plus then you can just grab and go when you're in need instead of having to worry about transferring and adding nicotine every time.
Dont see anything wrong with that. I vape about 300 ml a week of the same two flavord. Probably would make bigger batches if I had bigger bottles. I use the 150 ml Elmer's glue bottles. They fill my squonk bottle quickly and provide a bit of shock value.
I recently made 500ml of a long-steeper
PRY4-M
- CAP Sugar Cookie 4%
- TFA RY4 Double 3%
- FW Butterscotch Ripple 3%
- TFA Pistachio 2%
- TFA Bavarian Cream 2%
- TFA Marshmallow 0.5%
- FW Hazelnut 0.5%
I often make 500ml batches as both me and my girlfriend vape. Lasts us pretty much a month.

That’s how I do it, making it nic free and adding as I transfer to 50mls to carry round.
Shouldn’t go flat but may change the flavour, steeping is recommended for most juices to allow flavours to mature for a week or so. In my experience I find it gets better with more time but that will depend on your recipe.
I make three or four different flavors in empty liquor bottles. 3 L at a time. Lasts about a year. Age them appropriately and store in the freezer.
So far so good, doing it since 2013
Liquor bottles aren't really air tight
Also you don't lose flavor by storing in the freezer?
Not enough to notice but I'm mixing up mint candy, a peanut butter with other darker flavors including banana, a honey/honeysuckle flavor and a tobacco. Only one I really notice losing aroma is the banana. Comes right back after pouring to a 60ml daily use bottle.
EDIT: fat thumbs
Aim for making batches that last 2 weeks to 2 months (after steep times). Learn which recipes seem to fade on you and make note of those. If they don't seem to fade, look at making a batch that will last you twice as long.
I vape 2 mL to 12 mL per day, depending. My average daily use is probably closer to 5 mL. Using the above suggested guideline, that's a range of 100 to 300 mL. That's assuming it's all that would be vaped, so maybe 240-250 mL would be much more suitable. Half a liter would lean towards excessive.
