Hello everyone I’m wondering if any one has experience with freezing nicotine salt base. I have a few years experience in diy and have stored regular vg freebase nicotine in the freezer up to 2 years without a noticeable amount of degradation only slight darkening. I’m wondering if anyone knows whether nicotine salts would degrade at a different rate than tradition freebase liquid or if degradation is based on the shelf life of the pg or vg base.
Nicotinbenzolate should have around twice the shelf life as freebase nicotin in general.
It is not as reactionfriendly as freebase because its „even“ proton/electron wise.
You cant „damage“ nicotin by freezing it. You lower oxidation rate, which is good for storage.
But you increase oxidation rate dramatically, when you CHANGE temperatures. This happens in household freezers very often, they switch a compressor on and of and dont hold the -18C constant. If you open the freezer several times a week for your eatings, than its also the wrong place to store ;-)
One problem when freezing base, regardless of freebase/nic is the water the VG absorbed. Also VG tends to separize when its stored long time freezed. So shake well, after its warm again. Best is to store nicotin in pure PG.
I dont freeze for private use, because i dont have to store my stuff more then 2 Years.
I've had 100mg pg base smooth salts from Nic River in my freezer since February. When I got the bottle I split it up into ten glass amber bottles and froze them immediately. It doesn't appear oxidized at all. Still crystal clear, no peppery taste when mixed.
Honestly you shouldn't need think about storage that long term unless your convinced ejuice is going to be banned wherever you may live. For peace of mind, it's not expensive to just buy enough for say 6months so your restocking before any real noticable changes are made to your nicotine. It benefits everyone who vapes your juice to buy and use the best engredients.
I'd suggest buying a year supply of nic once a year, preferably in the winter, so it isn't exposed to much heat during shipment.
I wouldn’t usually be freezing it. I did it when the first regulations were announced, now I’m doing it again just in case. I’m positive if my state of OH can figure out a way to make money off further regulation they absolutely will. Our medical marijuana program going into law and how they determined who got to grow is the shadiest shit you’ve ever heard of the same as our race track/ casinos.
Sounds nice bud. Lilly owns this state next door. Biggest employer. Went to prison over a roach.
That’s awful. TN is like that. My cousin did 90 days for a roach with staples still in his chest from open heart surgery. OH would be totally decriminalized if they hadn’t realized they could make it medical take your guns away and be the only ones to grow and sell all in one piece of legislation.
I bought a quart from Nic River around two years ago, keep it in the freezer with a small amber bottle (wrapped in foil) in the fridge for immediate mixing. It's still perfect, same as the day I bought it.
Awesome, is the nic river peppery at all?
It's deceptively smooth and lovely - if you (or those you mix for) want higher nic without the peppery throat, this sort of thing is the way to go.
Mine arrives today! Two years sounds good, wanted to get a little more info from your experience. Sounds like you did it right...
So the bottle in the freezer is the one from Nic River? Did you worry at all about the air in that bottle as you pulled from it to fill the amber?
Do you need to warm up and/or shake the bottle in the freezer each time you pull from it? What was the base you used?
Questions, questions... Thanks for any insights you can provide.
I don't worry about the air in the bottle. I don't think it's enough to cause serious oxidation, or it hasn't yet.
I give it a good shaking before I fill the bottle (it's a 15 ml bottle). It's more viscous from the freezer, but nothing too crazy. I don't really let it warm more than a few minutes.
I always take the amber bottle out of the fridge when I'm getting ready to mix and I always shake it vigorously, just like my flavors, for 15 seconds before mixing, and I usually squeeze the eyedropper top a half dozen times, too, just to get whatever is in it mixed in as well. I wouldn't say it's room temp by the time I start, but it's loose enough.
Sup fellow Ohio bro. I'm going the salt route myself. I might get some argon gas from a welding supply store to extend the storage life. Optimally I would keep the large bottles in the freezer and ration it out to a smaller bottle for mixing, replacing the air in source bottle with argon every time it's opened. Argon is heavier than air so it's just a simple matter of filling it up and capping it off.
