Michigan Mega-Thread

Welcome!

If you're new to the sub because of the MI ban, welcome! We'd be happy to help you on your way to mixing freedom. Over the past four days we've seen an explosion of posts about everything Michigan, and we'd like to try and compile all the pertinent information for those who need it. Our goal is to reduce the number of posts we're seeing asking the same simple questions about the current state of affairs in MI.

The fact of the matter is that right now, pretty much everything is as it was - there are vendors who will ship you all the supplies you need (for now) and there are also retail locations that stock most of these things. So don't despair - right now is actually a good time to be getting into DIY!

If you use Discord, why not join us for help, information, and some lively conversation?

Where to get nicotine

Because of reddit's rules, we can't link you to any place where you can get nicotine directly. Please don't directly link to websites that offer nicotine for sale here. With that said, here is a list of reliable vendors that you can easily find with your favorite search engine.

If you are in MI and know of a retail store that sells nicotine, please comment with the name of the business - just don't link to their site if they have one!

Where to get supplies

Here is a list of reliable vendors for all manner of DIY supplies.

Your first order

First, read this overview of the supplies you'll need to start mixing. From there you should be able to put together a shopping list which will include some equipment and some consumables. For flavors, check this set of recommended first order flavors.

Questions

If you have any questions specifically about Michigan - physical stores that sell supplies, which online vendors are shipping there, or anything else that only someone from Michigan would know, please comment on this post rather than creating a new one. All of us on the outside are eager to assist, but the number of posts asking the same questions makes it more useful for people searching "Michigan" to find the answers they are looking for in one thread.

Yes because what vaping needs now is disallowing people to get juice from a reputable local source. Michigan you crazy.

We didn’t ask for it, whitmer is another knee-jerk reaction liberal who makes laws first and never thinks about the cost or the damage

Look at what Scott Walker did to Wisconsin or what Sam Brownback did to Kansas.

A "knee jerk" vaping flavor ban is a pain in the butt for sure. But it's not going to decimate the economy of your entire state like conservative leaders have been doing while in power.

Get some Republicans in charge and then marvel at the stupidity.

Big tobacco spent hundreds of thousands or millions to get that flavor ban passed. Bitch about corporate lobbying if you want to get to the root of the issue. Tobacco companies have been demonizing vaping for a decade and pouring money into lobbying for bans.

Complaining about liberals and ignoring the money behind the push for a ban is like having skin cancer and only worrying about the small spot on your face because it looks bad while you ignore the cancerous sores all over the rest of your body.

Just look at state and federal voting records for the last 50 years. Liberals do their best to protect consumers, workers, and poor people while conservatives enact legislation to make the rich richer and remove protections for workers and allow businesses to pay less and offer fewer benefits.

So you can bitch about liberals or you can educate yourself on who actually votes for the benefit of society and who votes to benefit the wealthy at the detriment of the other 99% of taxpayers.

Legislative voting records are free and open. They don't lie and are black and white proof that only one side wants to make the world a better place for everyone and not just the ultra wealthy.

Honestly I’m a libertarian I don’t like any of them. But liberals as of late have a bad rep with jumping on the “holy crap quick ban <item> “

Look at London- liberal utopia. Can’t even buy a butter knife

Conservatives care too much about religion and I could give a shit less, think what you wanna think but don’t force it on people.

No system is perfect but at least with Republicans/conservatives I agree with a lot more—-especially since I REALLY dislike socialism/communism since I have an IQ higher than room temperature and can see they are a disaster and most of if not all of “the squad” are exactly that

Edit: OH LOOK -6! votes, you can’t even be ancap on reddit because it’s still aligned with the right. Silly me I forgot where I was posting, I can’t be a capitalist here!

Liberal? Seriously? Ever heard of this guy named Trump? Get over yourself.

I'm worried about MN. We just had the 1st "vaping related illness" death the other day. I already DIY, but the wife doesn't care for my mixing skills and still prefers premades.

That was weed carts tho.

It doesn't seem to matter for the political knee-jerk reactions. Government hears "vape" and "death" in the same sentence, and they immediately make broad assumptions.

Thank you for this post! I've been talking to the vendors listed in the sidebar that are located in the US about them shipping nicotine and other DIY supplies to Michigan. None of them have yet told me they can not ship to Michigan.

Most of the responses I'm getting are along the lines of "we will ship to Michigan unless specifically told not to". Vaporstek pretty much said in an email, "Lol, we will ship to you. Dont worry."

So yeah things look good for DIY in Michigan but I would stay cautiously optimistic and remember our Governor is an ignorant cunt.

Where's a good place to find highly rated recipes? I'm likely going to be doing a bulk order from Elite today, then dropping what I can on DIY supplies.

All The Flavours is a good place to look for recipes.

E-liquid-recipes.com also try alltheflavors.com

ELR can link you to the sites that sell the specific flavours and often offer coupon codes.

I'd be careful about sourcing recipes on ELR

I actually just mixed up 4 recipes from ATF and I can't wait for them to steep. All 4 smell absolutely amazing.

As a person in a free state, I wholly embrace Michigan to go DYI.

Don't trust the corporations.

Learn what the tests mean.

Don't vape things that scare you.

One thing I haven't noticed many talking about that is a huge deal for DIY is the fact you can legally only have 3 flavors. If you are caught with 4 or more flavors than you are hit with intent to sell felony and off to jail you go. Also they will charge you for each additional flavor you have, that could be a long sentence for people with DIY.

by BabyGuyMcGeeabout 6 years ago

Do you have a source for this? Ik I'm a week late lol but I can't find anything about it.

by Tencoreabout 6 years ago

New articles are saying there is a loophole and the ban no longer prohibits possession of flavored nicotine, only the sale. So maybe look into it yourself to double check and be sure that is what it says. Sounds like DIY is ok though :)

Freedom Smoke USA offers unflavored adjustable kosher grade VG/PG juice with adjustable nicotine levels from 0-36mg. One Michigan location but also available for online orders

by juthincabout 6 years agoI improved Grack and all I got was this lousy flair

Remember that that's pretty much usepess if you want flavored. You can always get 4/3× the strength you want to vape, then add flavor and VG to make up 25% of your bottle, but you'll still be dealing with fluctuating VG ratios, even if you can at least get a consistent nic level (which is the vitally important part). But it's still way cheaper to buy separate ingredients. And besides, you never know if their numbers are accurate for figuring out how much unflavored to weigh out each time.

by mr1347about 6 years ago

Which numbers are you referring to?

1 points

by juthincabout 6 years agoI improved Grack and all I got was this lousy flair

Exact nicotine strengh, exact VG ratio. Particularly if they claim "max VG" which should mean 100% VG for unflavored, but probably means they used a PG base nic at some strength (probably 100mg/ml, but maybe more or less). I'm pretty sure they won't supply the SG for you to calculate on your own.

I've read that purnic smooth salts can be pretty low grade. Can anyone recommend a good quality salt? Only looking to get 150-500ml tops

by PacificBlisterabout 6 years ago

You are correct, it is trash. My current go to is liquid barn nic salts. I've only received 1 batch so far, but its but the best salts I've tried.

Someone tell me if I got my math right. If I buy a 1 liter of 100 mg/mg nicotine, it will make 166 ish 100ml bottles of 6mg/ml liquid. I want to make sure I can keep my husband vaping until he's ready to quit (and keep him off cigs). 166ish bottles should last a very long time, but I'm tempted to buy 2 liters just in case. At this point I'm just hoping they don't outlaw all vaping. He's had a really hard time quitting smoking, tried all the $$$ Rx bs to no avail. He's not going to vape if he has to hide it like a criminal. With his family history I'm seriously concerned he won't be around another ten years, and the govt seems to be doing their level best to keep him smoking.

two liters should last you a good while. Also, remember that if he keeps dropping nic it will last even longer. For example if he goes eventually to 3mg, it will last you twice as long. I think you may have a little time and there's still a few products out there. Maybe consider getting a smaller batch to start and then follow up with a larger one soon after to make sure it's what he likes? Quite a few members here likely have a large stash in the deep freeze for just in case legislation.

Hey Michigan friends... I saw mentioned in another thread about DIY Vapor Supply in Waterford. I went there today and if you live close enough to them you HAVE to check them out. They advertise 3,000 flavor concentrates to choose from (but it’s closer to 4K) and everything else you could possibly need. Also it was explained to me that they have a website (diyvaporsupply.com) that you can order from and then pick up in store, which is most likely what I will do next time. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about my experience there today!
