Question to CAP Sugar Cookie lovers.
submitted about 6 years ago by Logger8

To all the DIY pastry lovers out there, I've made about 200ml of the following simple sugar cookie recipe:

Sugar cookie 8%

Vanilla custard 4%

This is my second shot at DIYing after an utterly failed first one and really making me depressed. Its steeped for about 4 weeks now with no Nic added. I shook it almost daily and kept it in a dark cupboard. When I open the bottle it smells freaking amazing, exactly what I wanted. I can smell a sweet cookie, butter, and eggy custard. BUT (a big ass but) when I vape it I do not get any of these notes, none. I get more of a dull watered down sugar water taste. I read somewhere that without nicotine the flavor will not be as full so I added 4% nicotine, and after shaking it the juice got a bit darker but the taste is the same. It really smells like my grandma's fresh cookies but doesn't taste merely close to the smell. Does it need more steeping? or airing? or what should I do now?

Edit: Forgot to mention that both flavors are Cappella.

Making 200ml of something you’ve never vaped was your first mistake. Always make around 10-15ml first so you know if you like it. Most people never make 200ml of the same recipe at one time even if it’s their favorite.

As for that specific recipe, I feel the same way. Smells great, but the taste is just okay. Try more recipes before you give up! If you post your flavors on the weekly “what can I make” thread, let me know, and I can try and help ya out with other options!

You are right about the 200ml part. Problem is I travel a lot for long periods, usually no less than a month, and wouldn't have access to make more if I like it while traveling. Then I would have to wait until I get back home then wait for the steeping so the whole process with my travelling situation would take at least 3-4 months.

I made a lot of this one a long with other recipes that I also don't taste them well cause they were getting such good reviews everywhere I looked. Now I'm thinking my other recipes don't taste well cause they also have these two ingredients along with some other flavors. For example I've made this simple banana nut bread recipe and I can only taste the banana out of it.

Banana nut bread (TFA) 7%

Sugar cookie (CAP) 3%

Vanilla custard (CAP) 3%

Try messing around with the percentages on that one, it is supposed to be banana nut bread but has been muddled a bit too much. It is a relatively good flavour on it's own, so lower the other parts down to let it shine more.

Banana nut bread (TFA) 7%

Sugar cookie (CAP) 1.5%

Vanilla custard (CAP) 1.5%

If you like cookies I also highly recommend mixing up a standalone batch of Sugar Cookie at 6%-8%, it is honestly an incredible experience on its own. (edit: grammar)

Cap Sugar Cookie tastes like sweetened cardboard to me. I have to sub in JF Cookie, FA Cookie, or RF Sugar Cookie to keep the recipes I follow from tasting like ass. Took me a long time to pin down the issue. There are actually a lot of common flavors that people love that I can't stand. Do single flavor tests to figure out what works. Maybe not everything but at least really common ones that go into a lot of recipes.

Vaping on the exactly same juice right now! Mine only steeped for 3-4 days and is already good, I can taste the sweetness of the cookie and the egginess of the vanilla custard.

What setup are you using?

edit: next time try to mix a 10-20ml test bottle to see how the recipe turns out. I don't do this myself but I wish I would.

Tried it on galaxies RDTA restricted DL with round wire and fused Clapton coils and Combo V2 RDTA with huge fused Clapton NI80 coils. Both setups are ok with other juices but I can't taste any cookie out of the juice, I can taste a very faint sweet eggy taste that's it.

When you say the sweetness of the cookie do you mean u can taste the cookie or just the the sweet/sugar taste?

Just the sweet/sugar taste and just a little bit of cookie. Maybe this is how it's supposed to taste?

This freaking suck! Well at least it ain't just me. How the hell was that the top rated recipe before!!!

Try adding 2% FW Butterscotch Ripple. It adds an extra rich and dark layer to the flavour. Works well, or it did for me.

It's the classic recipe for 'awesome room smell'

But the flavors are fairly light. I just picked up a kickass flav tank for stuff like this: Falcon King sub-ohm

I take it you also don't get the taste out of the same juice on that tank?

I was actually looking for a good flavor tank and got the galaxies RDTA as everyone was raving about how great the flavor is on it.

I get taste but SC is very mellow. I use both as background flavors. This particular recipe I mainly have to dilute my [28mg/ml thc extract in PG]

That galaxy looks like my OBS engine II. Wrecked 2 of em way too fast. This new one uses mesh and bamboo atties. Typically I build tho.

Yea I can't commit to coil heads with I'm traveling, I only build and have a load of different wires with me. The galaxies is very good, can be used as restricted DL which I've always loved and also got me an intro to MTL which turned out pretty good too.

How big is the drip tip you are using? The bigger the drip tip, the less flavour you will taste.

I'm using a 510 MTL drip tip and a normal 510 drip tip. I recently learned about the drip tip effect on flavor and felt so very bad for using an 810 all these years, it really makes a huge difference.

The same problem with me also. It smell so good but taste a bit awful. I thought maybe i use a mtl setup and this receipe may not be for that. Steep it a bit longer, it will be better.

I tried it on two different atomizers mate. It's awful. I don't think more than a month will do much to it honestly.

Have you tried using Sweeteners? For me personally, it's a flavor enhancer. Most of my DiY creations are somewhat dull before I pour some of the glorious CAP Super Sweet in it.

Drop at least .25% of sweetener on your recipe and tell me how it changes.

I thought of the sweetener but unfortunately I'm traveling for work and don't have access to any DIY or vape supplies where I am atm, I'll try that once I get home in 3 weeks.

I second this. Bakery flavors tasted like hot garbage to me. All of them. Then I started adding a few drops of super sweet, and the flavor changed completely. Not really sure why, because I never add sweetener to fruit or candy flavors.

Do you have the original version of those flavors or V2? Cause V2 is not my favorite. I couldn't stand the v2 and gave it away, then ordered the regular version and it was great right of the shake. No steeping required.

Unfortunately they are both original.

What's your pg/vg? Did you add any sweetner?

30/70, no sweetener.

Is there a reason you're steeping without nic?

Did I miss a memo on this, because for as long as I've been mixing I thought nic was a key ingredient in the steeping magic. At least that's what my own observations have revealed, and I seem to recall hearing that from others.

I'm not saying this is necessarily relevant to what you're experiencing.

You should almost only ever air juice if you're getting nasty burning alcohol hits, which can be a problem with a lot of Cap stuff, but I don't think it is an issue for SC. This is a rule like any other, where there are outliers. FW Guava is way better if it gets to breathe a bit during the steep.

No specific reason, but I make 2 months supply at a time and don't want any of'em to go bad.

Yea, I've almost never aired ejuice before.

You could try adding FA cookie to about 10 ml of the juice. It has a very obvious cookie flavor when vaped

I've found that layering can make a huge difference also, lower to original percentage of the sc and custard and then add a percent of inw biscuit or fa cookie and cap v2 or fa custard. I personally don't like the Sweetner in mine it makes me sick so I go for this approach. Good luck

I like to add 1% FA Cookie! Its more realistic for me.
