is it ok to mix without nicotine just to taste?
submitted about 6 years ago by Justachillday

just getting into DIY and stuff is coming soon.

will the nicotine alter the taste to the point where the recipe must be changed (this is assuming that the nicotine is good quality)

just dont want to waste more than i have to :D

No, it shouldn't. It's fine to mix with or without it.

It's fine. I have several friends who are flavour fiends who do all their tasting without nic. Salt nic has no taste at all, & freebase ('normal') nic doesn't have a noticeable taste at low concentrations. (In strong concentrations, it has an unpleasant metallic flavour.)

Sidenote never pick MPG based nic salt, it's rough on the hit and gives a disgusting cardboard taste

What is mpg?

Monopropylen glycol, I took a batch of 100ml of those nic salts without knowing it was MPG and it's awful

I always put it in my testers because I'm addicted to nicotine. I don't want to take off somewhere with two or three 10 mil testers with no nic. Though I did do that one time. I had got some new flavors and my nic was coming in a day later (had plenty of other juice). I grabbed a couple testers I made up and went to this chicks house I just started seeing. Turns out I was perfectly fine. What's your point Rick? My point is 1. You can't always count on puppy love. And 2. If you are addicted to nicotine, why would punish yourself for a penny?

I fucking lied. It costs me almost 4 cents for a 10 mil bottle @ .3 nic. But I can finish the bottle and not waste flavoring or vg.

I pre-mix most of my flavours in 250ml batches. They can sit and steep while I plow through a bottle of juice, and when I'm a day or two away from needing more, I add nic to a smaller bottle, add the pre-steeped juice, shake and let it sit for a while.

This way when I have friends in need, or decide to switch from MTL to DTL, I don't have a batch of 9% if someone wants 12% or I want 3% for DTL.

So yes...totally ok to mix without nic, and if you do it this way you can keep a larger bottle of nic in the fridge or freezer and it'll stay fresher longer.

Just a sidenote, 12% nicotine would mean 120mg/ml, 1.2% is 12mg/ml :)

It's fine mate..nicotine alters the taste slightly but if it tastes good without nicotine it won't start tasting bad with the nicotine. Vice versa if it tastes bad without nicotine

What about without the nicotine?

For testers it's fine, however if you're doing a large batch take care if you add it last cause it will float and possibly splash depending on your mixing method. Have a friend that did this by accident and had enough pure nic splash on him in a hurry and he blacked out and threw up immediately. This was industrial scale 20+ gallons, a homogenizer, and complacency.

That’s interesting nic has no taste but is still harsh if vaped at a higher level than usual.

Yes, but it won't taste quite the same.

Pure nic is tasteless, so it should if you're using high quality nic.
