What Single Flavor Concentrates Made an Impression?
submitted about 6 years ago by RancerDS

WEEK XXIII

Heyo! What flavors did you try on their own that impressed you in some way? Hopefully it was good impressions, but we want to find out about all of them!! Seriously... just gives us a quick idea or let us know more in detail. You can make it feel like a quick review or just give it a thumbs up/thumbs down. It's great to learn how someone else is interpreting the things we like and use. Or to find out what they've had to avoid for no particular reason. So share with us your latest discoveries??

Going to use an example, but also to correct the previous assessment of the concentrate:

TPA Turkish - Good!

Initially did not think highly of this on it's own. Well, after having to wait around a few hours for a family member with only this to vape, it REALLY grows on you. It's got a citrus-y note. Not sure I can describe it though. Like maybe some spilled some orange juice on the tobacco leaves and it somehow sunk into them while slightly going bad? Maybe tastes a bit like raisin but not really? Someone had previously mentioned that this flavor was something with which they have a love/hate relationship. Can see how that is now. Throat-hit between a 3 and 4 out of 10. Mouth feel leans toward cigarette use but only like certain brands that have creosote taste/effect? Definitely an all day (ADV) for me. And works as a shake-n-vape, though a bit better with a day or two. Mixing at 3%, it seems strong enough. I might up the VG and lower PG to maybe smooth it out. I am glad I'd bought this and might add some fruits to it just for funsies!

P.S. Restricted lung hitter using two SS316L coils pushed together (like parallel, acting as a single coil) registered at 0.33 ohms; at a whopping 19-20 watts!! LOL.

WF Starfruit

It mostly tastes like starfruit to me, which itself tastes like sort of pear-white grape-cherry-lemon thing, but not a very strong flavor. It’s sweet and very juicy, very much like a juicy ripe pear but brighter and more tart. I guess some people have gotten a sort of plastic flavor out of this one and others say it tastes just like pink bubble gum (which I don’t understand at all)? I could sort of see calling it waxy at first before the juiciness comes in, but not what I’d call plastic, at least not at 2.5%.

FW also has one, but I didn’t pick it up because of the Sugar Syrup and it wasn’t available at any of the vendors where I usually shop.

WF Snake Fruit

I've never had snake fruit, but I don't think this is what it's supposed to taste like. And I think that's probably a good thing. Some say it tastes kind of like pineapple and bananas and have a tannic astringency like grape skins. I don’t get the astringency from this one at all. It does taste a bit like pineapple upfront, but mellower, not nearly as sharp, and a little more funky. It’s a front-heavy flavor and the finish is milder and sweeter, but reminds me of Red Bull. You know how Red Bull tastes like sweet tarts dissolved in acid? This tastes a little like some sweet tarts melted in apple juice and then diluted with sugar water... not the tartness of sweet tarts but a lingering sweet-tart note and apple flavor. It’s certainly very pleasant although nothing really jumps out at me as far as what to do with it.

VT has also has one, I thought I ordered it, but when I went to mix it up I couldn’t find it, so I guess I didn’t.

TFA Dragonfruit

Such a fun and useful ingredient, but when it comes to actually being a dragon fruit, probably the worse. By itself, it tastes like white gummy bears. But without the gummy texture, so it’s like licking them versus chewing them up. White gummy bears are supposed to be pineapple but don’t bear that much resemblance to real pineapple. So it kind of tastes like pineapple? But also a bit like pear or apple. But really just tastes like white gummy bears. It’s very bright and a little tart but not nearly as sharp and acidic as a pineapple. It’s a little harsh as a standalone but even at a high concentration, that’s pretty easily smoothed over with a little cream, although it has some thickness and a bit of creaminess or something like oiliness on it’s own. It’s mouth-coating.

CAP Dragon Fruit

Pretty similar to TFA Dragon Fruit in the sweet white gummy bear department and with that same easily mellowed standalone harshness, just slightly more potent and with a floral leading edge that’s somewhere between honeysuckle and hibiscus, with some raspberry. Not sure that it tastes more like actual dragonfruit, but the floral thing does make it taste more like something that came from a plant rather than a candy. There’s some dryness with those florals and it doesn’t have that creamy-type mouthfeel of TFA, but it’s a rich, vibrant, full flavor.

VT Dragonfruit

Another one that that tastes like mostly candy - specifically white gummy bears mostly - with some realness going on in there. It tastes like sticking a bite of kiwi, some white gummy bears, and couple of mixed berry Life Savers in your mouth all at the same time. Tart kiwi at first and with a lingering tart bite, but very sweet in the middle. Then white gummy bear, and finally a mixed berry leaning cherry-raspberry nearly to the finish before leaving that tart impression. It’s brighter with that tart kiwi on top and the white gummy pineapple-pear thing taking up most of the vape and there’s a little funkiness there like ripe fruit, the kiwi up front and that odd funkiness are the real part, but I can’t completely uncouple that white gummy bear flavor with candy, and the berry part is a mixed berry Life Savers, straight up. The closest single flavor I’ve ever tried to this before is probably FW Beetle Juice, with the way it combines that non-specific red candy fruit with something pineapple-esque. One thing is for sure, all the other dragon fruits taste white or maybe a little pink, but this one has some real red to it with Life Saver and the green kiwi upfront. It’s the most colorful one upfront. Oddly, I got some harshness from it each time I re-dripped it that wore off as I vaped it down a bit.

SC Dragon Fruit

Speaking of Life Savers - First impression, that’s literally just a pineapple LifeSaver, which tastes similar to a white gummy bear but more pineapple-y. It’s very sweet and even has that hard candy flavor that’s mouth-watering without being juicy. But digging into it, I started to pick up hints of watermelon and something something like a candy strawberry. A little rough compared to most flavors but not really compared to pineapple-type flavors. Super subjective, but I dig it. Could be fun to play with in fruit-punch candy type recipes.

FLV Dragon Fruit

The only dragon fruit I’ve ever tried tasted very much like this, but I’ve heard that’s because it was picked before it was fully ripe and transported and that I’d have a very different sense of dragon fruit tasted like if I got it fresh picked from an Asian market in Asia. Anyway, the DF I had tasted like a very light, somewhat floral pineapple, but not a lot of flavor. Sweet, but not a ton of sweetness either. FLV’s take on it is an even more floral and less white gummy bearish Dragon Fruit than CAP, but with some of that not-quite-pineapple base. The top note is very hibiscus-like, floral but not at all perfumy... not the syrupy CAP hibiscus but like tea with some dried hibiscus in it, with a little bitterness to it. Very much like the slight floral note in a real USA supermarket dragon fruit. Oddly thin overall, yet saturated and sweet. Gives it a nearly beverage-type feel, if only it were a little wetter. Some noticeable throat something, but not the standalone harshness of some other dragon fruits. This is definitely the dragon fruit I would use for something like a dragonfruit tea, but that would need something juicier in the mix.

FA Dragon Fruit

Very similar to FLV Dragonfruit, with that hibiscusy floral top note and sweeter almost pineapple body, but it’s thicker and a little more funky and ripe, while being a little more tart at the same time. More punchy overall the the fruit department. It tastes even more more like something found in nature. Fairly juicy, especially for FA. Doesn’t taste like something I’d want to mix with creams because it seems like that would clash with the floral and ripe tropical goings-on here, doesn’t seem as suited to tea as FLV, leaves some question for me as far as what to do with it other than mixing with other fruit flavors, especially pineapple ones but really anything tropical, and making something fun, like some kind of real fruit punch.

INW Dragon Fruit

Easily my favorite dragon fruit flavor, still, even after trying all these others... but does it really taste like dragonfruit? Nah. It tastes like a supercharged version of that same hibiscus-tinged white gummy bear pineapple-y peary candy deal. 1% is a bunch of flavor. It has bit of a sting at 2%, but under 2%... very, very smooth, seems like while it won’t be a blender like TFA it could easily be used smooth out other things that are harsh. Also super dense and thick. Almost creamy. No distinct layers too it, it's very consistent start to finish for the most part, although I can pick out different little fruit hints at different times, which keeps it interesting.

What really amazes me is that you can pick up such intricate detail with your buds. Kudos for putting it into words.

Great notes dude! What percentage would you suggest for the CAP Dragonfruit as a stand-alone and do you think i could throw in some Cap Harvest Berry or TPA Berry mix?

It depends on your setup, of course. If you have a good RDA for flavor, 4% should be plenty. In something more like a sub ohm tank you might want to push it to 5 or 6. I think it would do very well in a Pod at 8%.

I hate Berry Mix and can’t recommend using it at all but some Harvest Berry would probably be a great pairing with CAP Dragonfruit. Try mixing half as much Harvest Berry with the Dragonfruit.

Thanks! I’m using the wasp nano rda, this sounds promising, I’ll give it a try.

I made a 14% dragon fruit TFA. It's too Strong and artifial to me

That's a completely insane amount of TFA Dragonfruit. Why would you do that?

FA Aurora

It tastes absolutely brilliant to me as a single-flavor juice. It's like a lime soda, but more refined - much sharper and bright-tasting than a real lime soda would or could ever be. It also has a bit of a floral character to it that absolutely adds to the bright character by rounding it out a bit and giving the flavor an almost lightheartedness that is to die for. I've also heard some people compare it to gin, which is fair enough, I see where they're coming from and it certainly has a bit of that in it (though I detest gin by itself, it does seem to contain some of the less astringent bits of gin flavor)

Turkish has really grown on me since I first tasted it. There's a weird funk to it that I don't seem to tire of.

FW Caramel Cinnamon Roll

It’s the only flavor so far that I don’t add anything to. I just mix it up and and sweetener and I’m good to go. Delicious.

First I want to thank /u/RancerDS for starting this and keeping it going for 23 weeks now. It's become an incredibly useful resource due to all the people who've shared their notes and impressions on a huge variety of flavors.

Much like our Flavor Reviews I've organized these Flavor Notes into their own wiki HERE organized by brand/alphabetical so it's easier to find a particular flavor you're looking for. So far there are around 350 flavors from 33 different brands!

Wow, you've went above and beyond! Now I feel bad for not having listed out all the mentions in the Weekly Thread wiki. Seriously though, that makes it really convenient to look over the flavors since you've listed vendor then flavor by alpha sort. Would give you a pat on the back if I were standing there. You deserve more than that.

Appreciate the kind words, bud.

This idea of yours worked out better than even I expected and I wasn't one of the naysayers ;)

I actually really enjoy organizing information like this and these threads have generated a lot of good information.
