As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week's flavor is.... Lychee!!!
also spelled litchi
How did that get to be the FOTW?
It was requested! If you're not interested in the upcoming FOTWs, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

The NOTED podcasts, which are basically video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

Just getting into mixing, but had some lychee as I love the flavor. Tried some out recently and here is my thoughts! (Note, new to mixing, palette is a bit unrefined but hey it might help someone. )
Review of the two I have:
FA Lychee: (Tested at 4% in 70/30) (Kept in a drawer and vented once daily)
Shake&Vape: Tasted like perfume mixed with crayons. Bitter is all I could really taste. Throat hit was 4/5. Taste was overwhelmed by the floral smack in the tongue, but had a very mild sweetness to it after all was said and done.
1 Day: The crayon taste (I'm not sure how to describe it better) fell off quite a bit. The perfume however is still very prevalent. The throat is about the same at 4/5. It got a bit sweeter at this point, but still very mild. At this point a little peek of rosewater and an actual pleasant tartness came out.
3 Day: Perfume taste really dropped off to a (high) but acceptable level. Still a bit much for my tastes but I prefer milder flavorings. The waxy crayon is there and the bitterness went away completely. Throat hit is now more of a 2/5. This boy got tart and in a very good way, almost juicy tartness and the rosewater kinda morphed into a artificial lychee flavor. Almost candy like at this point.
7 Day: Perfume is about the same, might be PTSD from earlier tests but the smell is off putting, the alcoholish smell is mostly gone at this point. Throat remains a 2/5. The tartness seems to have dropped off and with it it's a bit less juicy, but only slightly. The taste at this point was a very mildly sweet, candy like lychee, floral undertones with a little tangy citrus high note. All around might be good for a backing flavor, but not a main show kinda deal. At this point I cocktailed it with a mango in a low % and it worked ok.
CAP Sweet Lychee: (Tested at 4% in 70/30) (Kept in a drawer and vented once daily)
Shake&Vape: Same as with the FA lychee it was very perfumey, but more of a floral smell than grans musk as with the FA. Throat hit was a 2/5 right off the bat. Taste was a mixture of rose and white grapes and a bit of alcohol. Almost like a sweet champagne but a bit harsh. Had a bit of that crayon taste (if that makes sense lol).
1 Day: The perfume smell got good. And when I mean good, I mean it smells like my nose was in the damn fruit. The throat hit went away almost all the way to a 1/5. The flavor changed quite a bit. High notes of rose, grape, and melon/lemon. A bit strong on the lemon. A pear like juicy tartness came out strong in the best ways possible.
3 Day: Perfume remained, to my sheer joy. Flavors seemed to start balancing out, rose mellowed out a bit. The grape relaxed and lost that bitterness in the mix. There was a lemon taste before, kinda turned into a citrusy melon.
7 Day: I'm in love at this point. On the nose it's spot on. Big notes of rose, grape, pear. Undertones of melon, citrus and strawberry. I ended up just vaping my 10 ml test out at this point while thinking on things to mix it with.
I did make a little recipe I enjoyed. Not perfect, as I'm a novice but it's good here and there. I tend to like lower flavor concentrations so you might want to look into bumping it up if you want a bigger punch.

This has nothing to do with Lychee, but I thought I should state it. I have concluded that for some reason there isn't a whole of information about grape flavors. Yes, flv grape and inw Grape have their fair share of coverage, but I would like to see grape in the fotw again.
Unless of course this information is buried deep on this sub. For some reason when I had searched "fotw grape" I found the one from 2 years ago buried towards the bottom of the results lol
I 2nd this! Also include any grape recipes, preferably purple candy.
Exactly!! I feel like grape doesnt get the love it needs to. I've been trying to work up a full, juicy, and realistic purple (even white if not purple) grape flavor forever and I'm stumped. Hell at this point I'll take a solid candy grape profile at this point, but grape concentrates often give me so many weird off notes.
INW Grape is pure purple flavor. I don't believe I've ever tasted any artificial grape flavor (even outside vaping) where it actually tasted like a Concord or Niagara, or any other variety I grew up on... (Literally. Family was in the grape business when i was young.)
Probably the closest to 'real' was purple Monster, where they went with the standard purple flavor, and layered in some grape skin...
If this is the suggestion box... How about the hot stuff? Chili, capsaicin, flv heat, that kind of thing? I've been thinking about doing a icy hot style juice, and figure there may be some value in other people's experience. Especially someone who tries all of the hot flavors @8% so, for science of course. And some people's amusement.
I'm going to be honest...I had no idea you can vape a flavor that can give you a sensation of heat and knowing that it's going into your lungs, that concerns me lol
Cool I used to love lychee when I bought eliquid but haven't really gotten anything since I've been doing diy. I think the only one I have is CAP sweet lychee which doesn't seem to be the best.
I haven't tried the CAP, but I've tried Flavor Art and TFA. FA has kind of a harsh floral note that I'm not a fan of. TFA Lychee tastes more like those lychee gummies which can be nice if you're onto that (I am).
Gotta say I love FLV Lychee. I've been using it for rounding out flavours in a way that people can use INW Cactus for. If you go a little too heavy, don't sweat it!
That shit is just wonderful.
How much of it do you use that way? Like what %
Im from South Africa, and mix up CAP sweet lychee, and FA litchi quite a bit. both work well together, usually the CAP at like 4-6%, and the FA lithci 0.5 - 0.75 %
It goes well with Mango, grape and kiwi. My favorite so far is the nasty type grape with the litchi. Made to go with each other. With ice and a bit of extra sweetener works best for me. There is a couple people here as well who mix up litchi with strawberry. pretty impressive stuff. over, and out.
