Funny Title to help with Dragon your Butts in Here for the flavor of the Week: Pitaya!
submitted about 6 years ago by ID10-TThe Kingmaker

As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!

Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

#This week's flavor is..DRAGON FRUIT aka Pitaya!

Also SnakeFruit, because it's scaly, and Star Fruit, just for fun

How did that get to be the FOTW?

It was requested! If you're not interested in the upcoming FOTWs, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

Past FOTW posts can be found here

The NOTED podcasts, which are basically video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

Next week's flavor will be: Lychee

The week after that will be: Grapefruit

The week after that will be: Apricot

The week after that will be: Energy Drinks

It's my time to shine! I absolutely adore INW Pitaya, and have used it... Maybe too much.

Blue eyes white dragon

Chase the dragon

Red dragon

Though I also put this abomination together using WF starfruit

The demigorgon

With any luck I'll be putting together a recipe that really lets dragon fruit take the forefront in the next few days.

I don't always use INW Pitaya, but when I do it's usually for one of your recipes. Thanks ! That blue eyes white dragon is a favorite <3

Love your recipes and that flavour but I have to ask... on a scale of 1-10 how scared are you that INW will reformulare the flavour without mentioning anything

I'll say maybe a 3. I have 4oz of it so it will be a while before I run low.

Another thumbs-up for Blue Eyes White Dragon, really liked the combo of blueberry, peach and dragon fruit.

...a recipe that really lets dragon fruit take the forefront...

"Enter the Dragon Fruit"?

Looking to make a straight up Dragon fruit tart/pie.

A PieTaya recipe if you will.

Finally someone to use wf starfruit. I never see it used, but it's such a tasty, juicy, and unique flavor profile.

Alfred pudding has used it as well!

It is indeed a tasty flavor, though maybe not bright enough to really read ~~cherimoya~~ carambola.

Is it the same fruit as Cherimoya then? All these different names for the same fruit make it so confusing lol

I don't think TFA's version should even be mentioned here.

If we discount every flavor that doesn't match up with its name week to week, these lists would be an awful lot shorter.

I don't think it is in any way representative of the flavor of dragon fruit, but it could be a lot worse, at least it serves a purpose.

Yes yes. It has a purpose. But not a Pitaypose

You made that comment just to set up this joke, didn't you?

I've been enjoying this the past week. Something u/AlfredPudding put together called Stardrop. It's got WF starfruit in it and also TPA's dragonfruit. Not really sure how to describe it other than utterly delicious -

this guy u/grettledude first put me on to INW Pitaya with this recipe Pitaya Cream

Pitaya (INW) @ 1.7%
Blueberry (FW) @ 1.5%
Bilberry (FA) 0.5%
Bavarian Cream (TFA) @ 1.5%
Cream (FLV) @ 1%
Vanilla Swirl (TFA) @ 2%

Then I found Blue eyes white dragon by u/Foment_life where he introduces the two peaches, so good. I hope INW never reformulates Pitaya

Oh wow that pitaya cream looks tasty!

So... What exactly is dragonfruit supposed to taste like anyhow? I'm pretty sure i never had it IRL (and don't know if I would want to) so... Why would I want a dragonfruit flavor?

Dragonfruit IRL tastes like slightly sweet almost nothing when I had it but I’ve read that’s because they’re highly perishable and picked underripe for import. Apparently you have to go to Asia to have a good one. Dragonfruit flavoring tend to taste more or less like white gummy bears. White gummy bears are supposed to taste like pineapple, but if you compare them to pineapple juice they really don’t.

So... Reallly no point in getting one

Huge fan of INW Pitaya. Love the tropical flavors present but not exactly a dragonfruit. Here’s something simple I made up a while back that doesn’t require a lot of flavors. Honestly this flavor is wonderful by itself. https://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/3198386/Dragon+Whip

I have been in love inw Dragonfruit lately. I've discovered recently that it can really help give a pear flavoring some body and just fill it out when used at low percentages. It also helps smooth it and give it such a tasty texture.
