Hey guys/gals, I'm interested in making some of the diy nicotine Altoids and was wondering if any of you have some experience to save me time experimenting. I've fully read the previous old post noting to use sorbital based mints.
Op suggested 60mg PG base at 0.05g per mint, but never mentioned what his typical ejuice preference was. I use 12mg juice and I plan on using a single drop (0.025g) of 100mg per mint (I will use scale).
Do you have any general tips, like using a dehydrator/oven or how best to store them with rice etc?
Also, have you tried mixing flavoring with your nic solution prior to 'dosing' the mints? Have you figured out the ratio to transpose ejuice recipes?
Any tips or advice you have would be greatly appreciated! I'll post my experience as well.
Update: I followed the "original" advice and placed two drops (~0.045) of fresh 60mg/ml PG solution on a dozen Altoids Minis (sorbitol) and also the larger Strawberry Frost mints. They were placed in a dry, ventilated area on wax paper. 10 hours later, they were still tacky. In the early morning , I threw them in a convection oven at 170 (dehydrator range). They dryed enough to throw them in an Altoids box with a paper towel, but I wouldn't trust them touching each other. I grabbed them to go play.
I have 2 running now - one with half dosing, one in the freezer.
Wish me luck. Thus far, the original recipe is very, very strong. If you try this, I start with half.
I might recommend nicotine in an ethyl alcohol base so that a drying step can be employed. We use a vacuum oven for home DIY projects like these :)
PM us here, Nicotine substrates in EtOH are something we make and manufacture regularly, just not sold on the site to the general public.
Sorbitol based gum is an excellent substrate. But their are other choices as well. Altoids mints have a more porous structure and will work great for post mfg nic addition
When nicotine is added to the formula, it is presented as nicotine polacrilex. An entirely different substrate.
I switched to lozenges. Are you telling me that I could DIY again?????
/u/TSpectacular yes absolutely. I would highly encourage investing in some knowledge of the manufacture of hard candies and similar substrates. With the utmost care, nicotine (or better yet, nicotine polacrilex) can be mixed into these recipes with ease.
Slightly off topic... Today I'll be attempting "liquid snus", basically just 3mg VG base juice with a few drops of distilled water. It's for times I can't vape, figured a few drops of it between cheek and gum couldn't hurt.
Flavoring will be 2% FA Spearmint, 1% INW Shisha Vanilla and 0.25% Ethyl Vanillin.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has tried a DIY nic liquid in this way.
