TFA vanillas - buttery flavour
submitted about 6 years ago by Abohac

Hi guys,

I started mixing a month ago and am having a blast, but I also have one issue, hope you can help. I'm using only TFA flavors so far. The problem I'm having is with vanilla flavors - everything including a vanilla tastes like butter. All other recipes have worked out wonderfully.

I mixed up the 2 following vanillas:

RY4 double 8%

Sweet cream 3%

Vanilla custard 4%

and

VBIC 6%

Strawberry (ripe) 8%

I didn't give them breathing and a warm bath but shook them up. I also shake them up each couple of days. They have been steeping since 12th June. When I try them I get the same thing out of both: muted flavors and a slight buttery taste.

I have no idea what's going on, according to comments on the e liquids recipes website they are supposed to be solid SNVs. Does anybody have an idea what's going on? Do I need to let them steep longer?

You have to remember that those two flavors are a custard and an ice cream, so it's not vanilla flavors per se. They definitley have a buttery element to them.

If you only want a vanilla spice flavor and want to stick to TFA only - TFA French Vanilla Deluxe is highly praised.

FA Vanilla Classic (Madagascar) and INW Shisha Vanilla are other vanillas that should be relatively easy to get a hold of.

No need to give them a warm bath or breath, just make sure to shake well and you'll be fine.

Don't trust recipes from ELR unless you have a eGo and clearomizer to vape them on.

I'm vaping on a Innokin Proton + Mesh Pro and on a Subox Mini-C as it's more discreet... I'm curious though, what did you mean with your comment? Do you think the recipes there are over flavored? Where should I go for simple TFA recipes?

ELR is contaminated with recipes from a era when gear produced little to no vapor and thus next to no flavor. So with a pod system it could be useful, but with anything effective at generating flavor, no. This sub has recipes constantly being posted. Alltheflavors has many recipes. Now, limiting yourself to just TFA is gonna limit how good your juices can be (they have the best version of only a few flavors, and good versions of not too many more) but if you insist, post a list of what you have (not a ELR link that leads to a login-wall) to the "suggest a recipe" thread and you should get some help.

I'm far from exclusive about TFA, it's just the first batch of flavors I bought... Thanks!

VBIC requires a good steep, whereas 🍓 should be added at the end as a shake&vape

Vanilla Swirl gets a lot of mentions, but I have only owned French Vanilla. That stuff deep steeps to almost a butterscotch flavor

I've only used CAP custard so no help there either.

You own the TFA french vanilla deluxe?

Not the Dx version. Was part of my first DIY order in 2015 ✌️

I use small amounts of real good vanilla extract now. It goes very far and adds little sugar to the entire volume.

Like 2-3 drops in 8oz

The first one should be decent on your gear if you cut % in half (just 1% cream). Since it has VC it will change a lot over the first couple of weeks.

The second one I never got the hype.

I'll cut everything in half and give it a go.

As juthnic and coop34 suggested the flavor % were way to high. I diluted the liquids to 50% by using the nicbase I used originally. Boom - everything is fine suddenly and dilemma solved. Buttery flavor is gone. Thanks again guys.
