Is this normal behavior???
submitted about 6 years ago by rodovadu

Ok so here it is how it went. In my DIY journey i started doing some juices and ended up doing a juice which I LIKED right at the mixing moment. The recipe is this one: Ry4 double (TFA) - 7% Toasted almond (TFA) - 2% Vanilla swirl (TFA) - 2.8% And after brewing it, i really liked the flavor being honest although i have heard that sometimes and specially with custard flavors the steeping process is highly recommended. So that’s what I did, I let it steep. After one week of steeping I tasted it (as well as others but didn’t wanted to make the post too long but the other recipes also uses vanilla swirl) and it wasn’t as great as it was just after mixing it. Is it a normal behavior or the recipe demands to be used almost right after it creation???. Thanks you all so much for any response or comment!!. Have a great day!

I'm not sure why you mentioned custards as you don't have any in that recipe, but in my experience, RY4 Double takes quite a while to steep. Longer than 1 week.

During the steeping process it's entirely normal to have some flavours jump out - fade - and then magically reappear.

If you find you love it right away consider it a shake and vape only and mix small batches as desired and be happy - but i'd give it another week or two and try again before you reach your final verdict.

At the very least you have a shake and vape recipe for those times you've been lazy and need something right now :)

Some recipes I find taste great at the start, steep into a weird flavor, then turn out pretty fucking awesome. Custards do this all the time for me. Too forward fruit at first fruit dies down and custard gets weird, then things start working together and everything grooves.

If your flavorings don't taste as strong after 1 week you might be steeping in a container that is not completely airtight.

Just from experience I know that some flavorings will inherently fade over time. Some are just not as strong as others. Some may blend with -or mask the other flavorings in your mix making it seem like they have faded. There are a lot of variables involved.

If you don't give it enough time to steep and are reluctant to shake the bottle enough, the ingredients just don't get enough time to bond and distribute evenly. So if you try your mix prematurely you can get more of one flavoring than the other.

Some flavorings do need longer steeping than others. I give my tobacco mixes 3 weeks minimum and regularly shake the bottles. If your mix is really complex with a lot of different flavorings it would need more time as well.

Quick question about regularily shaking: I tend to shake my bottles for like 30 sec each a couple of times every evening - after getting home from work. At weekekends my bottles can go a day or 2 without any shaking. I know this is not an exact science, but any advice if that would suffice? Pardon newbish questions, trying to get some tips n tricks..

Yeah that should be fine. Just shaking the bottles every couple of days should be fine for the ones that need a few weeks.

For the fruity shake and vape types that I want to vape asap I just shake as soon as it has settled when I get the chance to.

Too much flavoring always mutes a recipe, so maybe your going too high on one of your flavors. We try and place all flavorings into a 5% maximum rule to control for this but the truth is flavors vary. That being said I would examine closely any flavors that you put over 5% if this happens. If you don't like fucking with the complexities of creams just stick to vanilla bean ice cream TFA. Use e-liquid-recipes.com to lookup flavors and use their flavor % reccomendations before breaking the general 5% rule and that will solve most of your problems.
