Looking for a flavour that can add chalkiness to a mix.
submitted about 6 years ago by KageyK

I’m trying to make a jawbreaker flavour, the big white guys and I seem to have the flavour profile but need something to give me that chalky taste.

Right now the mix consists of Cotton candy, candy sticks, hard candy, jawbreaker, powdered sugar. It’s so close but I just need a bit of a chalky edge to round it out.

I’ve tried upping the candy sticks but it’s not quite doing it.

Any suggestions?

TFA sweet and tart is chalky and what you're after.

I agree it has the chalky flavour but I’d be concerned that it would change the flavour profile a whole bunch.

I'm assuming that's WF Candy Sticks, FW Hard Candy & Jawbreaker, and OoO Powered Sugar, but which Cotton Candy are you using? The wrong one could be counteracting the chalky you're getting from the Candy Stick.

One of the drier marshmallow flavors might help you out - don't try TFA.

You are correct.

For the cotton candy it’s actually just TFA ethyl maltol I’m using. After someone else suggested marshmallow I decided FA marshmallow would probably be the best for the juice.

Ethyl maltol is dry enough. Some of the other cotton candy flavors have vanilla and even triacetin and other things in there that you probably don't want.

FA Marshmallow is worth a try. Some of the other ones are too smooth/wet.

Try marshmallow for mouthfeel

Lmfao I didn’t even think about marshmallow. I usually use it as a sweetener and this is already so sweet I hadn’t even considered it.

That’s a really good suggestion so I’m going to add it in, but I’m not sure it’s going to add the chalkiness I’m looking for.

Couple options could be to try would be FLV Candy Roll -Review From Concrete River

Or the new FLV Marshmallow Vanilla has nice texture/mouthfeel - Review From AlfredPudding

The candy roll might do it. I was looking at it when I made my last order but didn’t pull the trigger on it. Now I regret that choice.

Great suggestion.

TFA bubblegum at high percentages tastes like Popeye candy sticks which believe it or not, are bubblegum flavored although slight. The issue with candied chalky flavor profiles is that the effect is largely lost when you mix other flavors into the blend. Honestly you'll get away with maybe 20% of another flavor before it's unnoticeable again.

But its absolutely not tart or sour.. only real sour flavor I've tried is

Swapple - american stars (flavourtec I believe) which genuinely tastes a bit sour (like a sour green apple candyl

P.s. can anyone explain cotton candy to me.. is there a good cotton candy flavor that actually tastes like cotton candy or candy at all? Every single cotton candle juice ove tried tastes absolutely disgusting and tastes / smells like PURE MUSK

Like I'm vaping a cheap perfume worn by a 78 year old dude

Huh? Tried FA, CAP and TFA and never noticed any musk. Hear me out. Think maybe you sprayed cheap parfume while you're mixing? Under no circumstances am I insinuating you are a 78 year old dude out whoring the town😂

Hahahaha no mate. To be fair like I said so far I've only used one shot concentrates (premade flavor mixes) to mix my juices.

But both with premium liquids I tried and one shot concentrates I tried (different brands, probably 4 different liquids or something) every single cotton flavor untried tastes and smells super musky. It's a real shame because I absolutely LOVE cotton candy. But never found a cotton candy flavor that didn't taste like horrible perfume.

Maybe I should try buying cotton candy from fa/taf or something and make my own mixes. But so far it's been more convenient to just buy one shot concentrates. My favorite juice in blue lush by chefs flavours. Costs 11 eur for 30ml where I live and far cheaper (20 euro for 100ml) if i buy it from the UK. Enough to make an entire liter of my favorite juice.

I'm worried that if I start mixing my own juice I'll end up with 300 different flavors and a million bad mixes lol.

Then again I would probably really enjoy mixing my own stuff and other peoples recipes. I'm just worried it won't be as good or flavorful as premium juices/ one shots.

You can end up with 300 flavors. But I don't see a million bad mixed out of ya. I can tell you don't have shit for brains like half the interwebz. You just need ya some experience. But if ya like the one shot route stick with that. As long as you're not smoking. Anyhoozer cotton candy ejuice shouldn't be musky lol.

I’m personally not a fan of it as it destroys my tastebuds but a few of my friends seem to like this Blue Raz Cotton candy mix.

Blue Raz (Real Flavors) 2% Ethyl Maltol (TPA) 10%

I usually only use the cotton candy (Ethyl Maltol) at .5 or 1% as a sweetener and for mouthfeel.

Yeah but isn't that just regular sweetener (ethyl maltol)

Why do all cotton candy flavors that I've tasted taste like old perfume / musk? Maybe I should should try ethyl maltol.. I don't really mix.my own flavors. I use one shots so.i haven't tried different cotton candy flavors. All I know is that the few cotton candy flavors I used were absolutely disgusting and tasted like musk

Most cotton candy flavors are just super concentrated EM with some extra stuff thrown in. Here are mixing notes for EM.

Mix at 0.5-1%: At these low levels Ethyl Maltol adds body, moisture, and reduces sharp notes. It rounds off the flavors, and brings them out a bit by reducing flavor intensity.

Mix at 1.5-2.5%: it significantly reduces flavor intensity.

Mix at 8-9%: it gives off a distinct burned sugar/cotton candy flavor but without the sweetness of real cotton candy.

Mix at 10%-12%: Ethyl Maltol produces the familiar cotton candy flavor.
