Noob question... is it my mix or did I miss a step?
submitted over 6 years ago by malariacoin

I just bought a mix of vg and pg with nicotine... I tried it with no flavoring, but there's that very slightly itchy feel on the back of the mouth and upper throat..

I tried a ready-made mix from a commercial ejuice company, same nicotine levels.. it doesn't have that feel...

So I was wondering, did I miss a step with my mix or this vgpg mix is just crap?

Did you shake it?

Simple enough, but if you don't shake your liquid nicotine tends to float to the top and concentrate and thus a harsh hit.

Oh, perhaps ill do that too... I tried a new batch I shook it really hard, I noticed the itchiness went down

When in doubt just shake everything (vigorously) when it comes to DIY..except the VG and PG because those are pure obviously. Shake your finished mixes very thoroughly yok. Sometimes it's hard to mix entirely if the bottle is filled to the top which is why I usually mix using lower volumes than the bottle's if I'm testing stuff (e.g. 15mLs in a 30 mL bottle). Helps tremendously due to the extra space the eliquid has to slosh around. You could always fill up a mug of water, microwave it, then drop your bottle of eliquid in it to sit and heat up. I dont reccomend a long term heat bath as it can weaken the flavor.

I was wondering of warming the final mix would dumb down the itchy feel...

Not shake the batch. Shake the entire bottle of nic - long and vigorously - before each time you do anything with it.

Does it have a born on date? Could need steep time. Sounds like pg/nic isn't quite settled.

Why would unflavored need steeping time?

Depending on how it was mixed, large production run vs at the bottle. The latter would need more time generally.. not to say a large production run could have been steeped before bottling or was mixed hours before bottling.

Steeping has to do with flavors. The fact that it has nicotine in it doesn't factor into that process. It's just VG and PG.

If he bought a flavourless premade PG/VG with nicotine base, it shouldn't need to steep. It would fuck up the nic levels when you add the flavours though as the flavours would dilute the nic down.

It depends what %nic it is and if it's freebase or salt.

What is the Percentage of the Pg./ Vg.?

Is this a different Melange like the Stuff you used before?

70/30... its my first batch of diy-ing juice

And is this Melange (percentage) different from the other Liquid?

I, for example, can’t use Pg. and i try to mix max. Vg.,

when i use too much Pg. i get a “open Mouth” like “Canker Sores”!

Max. tolerable is 20% Pg. for me!

Anyway, it need a bit of Time to get a Hand for Diy Liquids.

Maybe different quality/characteristics of nicotine? I doubt you missed a step, there's no steep if there's no flavour. My boyf vapes flavourless and his always seemed a bit itchy and throat hitty to me, but I was vaping nicotine salts (+flavour) and I put it down to me not being used to freebase. Then I had to use his nic for a month or two and I adjusted (but I was adding flavour to mine).

Maybe you got that liquid barn mix, that's designed to be 3mg/ml after you add flavors... So if you don't dilute it by adding flavor it's more like 4mg/ml. That would definitely cause what happened.

at what % do you recommend for the flavor volume?

Well, it would depend on if my guess was correct. If so, and it was liquid barn, i belive the info is on their sire. I think 16% total flavor was their plan.
