Plastic Bottles: Raising Awareness
submitted over 6 years ago by RancerDS

Anything that comes to the United States (and possibly the UK and most of the EU plus AU) that is shipped within plastic bottles will have something on the bottom to denote what type of plastic it is. PET is generally considered the safest, followed by HDPE then LDPE. Empty bottles coming from China will NOT denote which type of plastic on the bottom. They will usually indicate in the product title or description if you do order from China. Some will only indicate PE, which means it could be either HD or LD. Any one that's been buying/using bottles is probably familiar with the feel and rigidity of the different types.

The reason I'm pointing this out is that I purchased a water bottle from Dollar Tree for a buck. It had a "BPA Free" sticker upon it. I honestly don't know if it's PET or not since they didn't put any symbols or initials upon the bottom. While I'm not 100% sure it's safe to drink liquids from it... it's marginally safer than putting my vjuice mixtures into it. SO try to be a bit conscious about looking into the types of plastic you're using/buying.

If this has been posted somewhere previously, apologies and delete. Happy Vaping Everyone!!

ADDED in EDIT: I'm not saying you shouldn't use plastic! :)

Use glass?

Glass all the way. Boston rounds, cobalt droppers, recycled sake bottles etc.

Only need to buy once.

I do sell juice in 8oz HDPE tho. Retail for around a buck at some DIY shops

Glass is great in a lot of ways for keeping your liquids. The downsides are that it's more expensive than plastic and can break.

It can, but should it? I mean, I've been vaping for 5+ years, and I've broken only one glass bottle. One. Plus, I wash and reuse glass bottles all the time. I end up throwing away most plastic bottles sine I can't get rid of the smell :(

Someone here suggested using baking powder and water to sit inside the bottle for removing odor/aroma. Hadn't tried it yet, myself.

For diy i use only glass. To carry in pocket i use a plastic one from a comercial ejuice.

I buy glass flasks (wide and small so i can reach the botton with seringe) for €1 with small onions inside, remove the onions and clean/boil it. An empty flask costs the double and most of them leak.

Hey, can you post a link for the type of flasks you're talking about? TIA!

What this guy said.

Mix in big glass bottles, pour into small glass bottles for daily use. The glass on Boston round bottles should be thick enough to survive most drops.

I've switched my drinking bottle to a glass one, so been thinking about plastic bottles with the vape stuff. Is that the ideal thing to do, switch out all the mixing stuff, PG, VG, and nicotine into glass bottles?

How would you best store them afterwards. And Can you get dropper glass 10ml bottles? (maybe mean dripper, not the little pipette type tops)

Long term storage of chemicals (like nicotine), should always be done in glass bottles. Short term stuff like some mixed juice shouldn't be a big deal, as long as you're not getting the cheapest plastic known to man.

Glass is the safest and most re-usable. Tinted glass is better for keeping light out if you use nicotine in your mixes. Whatever bottles the VG and PG came in should be pretty safe if you're buying from trusted vendors.

Storing the liquids cool dry place is best. Nicotine lasts longer if refrigerated. I do know that people will move their nicotine to smaller bottles that have less head-room (unused space). In your mixes, usually won't have to worry about this unless you're not vaping up the vjuice within a few days to a couple of weeks and when the bottle is less than half full.

Hope this answered your questions/concerns.

That's brilliant, I'll add glass bottles to the shopping list now!

I do have a 100ml one coming already, but that was more for made up juice, so it's got a dropper top on it. Will maybe repurpose that for the nicotine instead, and just use a couple empty 60ml short fill bottles for the made up for now.

Whatever your nicotine came in should be fine, unless you've got a large container of it. Then you'll want to divide it up into smaller bottles. Nicotine shouldn't be overly exposed to oxygen and light. And apologies... it's 4 a.m. now, so unsure exactly what you're planning based on what you'd detailed.

Try Amazon. I recently ordered 15 glass bottles with droppers bottle size 2ml so that I can carry a few different CBD flavors with me on the go without having to take the whole bottle and stuff it all in my vape case.

Plastic is great, just don't throw it away. Infinitely reusable. I don't understand what all this environment issue with plastic is. It's a byproduct of refining petrol/diesel out of crude oil, so the use of plastic is already recycling. wtf we going to do with it if we don't use it? it's not the use of plastic it's the waste management of plastic that's the problem.

I bought 10 plastic squeezy bottles 2 years ago and i am still using them, i also reuse all the concentrate bottles i have.

Plastics can definitely be recycled, including three types I'd mentioned. And yes, they do seem to last quite a while. So reusing them for the exact same flavor/mixes works out great!
