Premixed NIC/VG vs Unmixed
submitted over 6 years ago by itsmelos

I've been doing DIY for about 6 months now and I've always bought my VG/NIC already premixed. I figured it would just save me a step and I wouldn't have to worry about dealing with super strong nic concentrate. In a previous thread I posted about my flavors tasting kind of muted. They don't "pop" or are full bodied like store bought juices, and I pretty much chalked it up to me not using sweeteners in the way the juice companies do. Do you think that me buying the premixed ingredients aides in the flavor muting? Should I start purchasing the ingredients individually??

For reference I buy 3mg nic/100% VG mixture and mix my juices by weight.

Thanks for the input!!! 😊

Are you comparing to storemade 100%vg? PG carries flavour better(afaik)

I've noticed better flavor with a 70/30 ratio vs 80/20. That 10% really really effected the flavor more than I thought it would, when I tried 80/20. PG does help carry the flavor.

I probably need to buy some individual materials to try them out. Any suggestions on what to get from where?

I was referring to the storebought liquids you are comparing your DIY stuff to-what ratio of VG to PG are the commercial ones? Since PG carries flavour, if the commercial juices are a 70/30 and you’re comparing to your 100% VG, it’s going to be pretty obvious which one is more flavorful. Have you considered adding some PG in your DIY mixes? Material wise I buy my stuff from brick and mortar shops in Romania so I’m afraid I’m not of much help there

PG carries flavor better than VG.

I'll probably have to try a 90/10 mix to see if that's any better on the flavors.

Some flavors work well max VG. When you are mixing for your self you get to concentrate on what you like.

I doubt buying premixed is the issue. Ive been doing the same for a while and never noticed a difference. Theres nothing i can think of about premixed that would effect that.

Shouldn't really make a difference.

Are you using good recipes?

I'm buying a lot of community flavor packs from Bull City flavors, or I use the top rated recipes from e-liquid-recipes.com. Do you have any suggestions on ones that I should try out?

I had same issues mixing top rated recipes from elr.. I came to the conclusion that those are Just too old to use with the gear we have available nowadays.i mean if you look at them 90% are two years old, if not more..

Any suggestions on sites to use for good recipes that might be compatible with my newer gear?

Top rated from elr is meaningless.

I do the exact same. My flavours don't pop either but I chalk it up to lack of sweetness and PG,. I would rather have a subtle flavor vs a nasty coil gunker. The pg really does a number on my throat and gives me the wheezies

I feel you on the PG. An 80/20 VG/PG mix was a bit too harsh for me. I might just have to try a 90/10 to see if that makes a big difference. I jumped from the 80/20 to 100%VG without trying it out.

Before you do that! What were you mixing? 70/30 VG/PG is really gentle, but add <insert FA White Peach, or many other roughies> and you have a sandpaper vape.

60/40 is zero problem compared to some concentrates.

Here are some examples of what I've mixed that I like but would love for them to have a stronger flavor. See if you can find anything wrong..All mixed with 100% VG @ 3mg.

God Milk Bavarian Cream (TPA)0.900 Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA)0.900 Dragonfruit (TPA)0.300 Strawberry (TPA)1.20 Strawberry Ripe (TPA)1.20

Kiwi Cheesecake Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA)0.900 Kiwi (FA)1.201 Meringue (FA)0.600

The internal leak of Unicorn Milk. Butter Cream (CAP)0.450 Graham Cracker (CAP)0.150 New York Cheesecake (CAP)0.150 Sweet Cream (CAP)0.450 Sweet Strawberry (CAP)2.55 Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (CAP)0.300 Vanilla Custard (CAP)0.900

These are my main go to recipes. Let me know if you can find anything that might help me out.

This is correct. Harshness is more due to your freebase nic and the flavour concentrates used in the mix. PG is not the devil a lot of people think it is.

so do you aim for 2mg/ml? Or 1.5? Because you won't get 3mg/ml, using that premix.

To be honest, I didn't realize that I was diluting the nicotine concentration until about a week ago. This was one of the reasons that I thought about buying the individual ingredients and trying that out. Normally when I mix a 120ml bottle it only goes down to 2.6 or so, a 240 does go down to about 1.9 depending on the amount of flavoring I add to the mix.

Actually, the dilution depends on the percentage of flavoring, not the total volume. The fact is mg/ml is also expressed as a percentage.

Have you tried using sweetener yet? It's literally the only difference between your juice and commercial juice
