Hot Seat Sunday
So, this is an idea for a weekly thread… Basically it's a AMA thread with a twist – the 'victim' gets to name who is next up in the rotation. It was started by /u/juthinc in this thread here and it was continued by /u/isuamadog in here , and continued here by /u/humanpuck, and there by /u/eyemakepizza, /u/ID10-T AMA is here , /u/vApe_Escape right here , /u/mlNikon somewhere in the area of here, and most recently /u/EdibleMalfunction's AMA resides here
There are some rules:
try picking someone who hasn't gone yet
it has to be someone who actively posts here
no dead people (ie: notcharlesmanson isn't eligible)
preferably a name that people recognize, 'regular poster' means someone who is a) alive and b) has posted in the last three months
Complete the FAQ before posting
if you do the hot seat, you can add up to three names to the list of people who are potential victims. Now, in the interest of saving some likely to be asked questions from coming up multiple times, I've included a FAQ below. With that said (and remembering to not repeat questions from the FAQ) fire away. Oh, and next time, it's someone's turn and you will be pm'ed regarding your participation. (possibly /u/matthewkokanda /u/philosaphucker /u/chemicalburnvictim /u/AlfredPudding /u/modivin /u/Up2MyHead /u/odiedoodah /u/Apexified /u/kindground).

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How'd you get your handle? I felt like it was an interesting name for a band, but was informed by my then bandmates that it absolutely was not. That left it free to become my handle.
How long have you been mixing for? I had been kicking the idea around for a while before finally deciding to get my feet wet. I dove into things right around the same time as u/eyemakepizza, so late 2017?
MTL or DTL? Yes? I tend to prefer DTL vaping. Usually middle sized dual coil builds if all else is equal. I do enjoy some MTL gear and tend to have a pod device tucked into one of my pockets at all times.
Current flavor or profile obsession? I sort of try to keep it fluid. I tend to ruminate on recipe development throughout the day, so there's plenty of different possibilities rolling around at any given point in time. Usually what I end up mixing is as much a product of what single flavor I grab first as it is the ideas rolling around in my head day to day.
Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected? FA Dark Bean. It tastes more of burning rubber than could ever be deemed acceptable.
Mixing Milestone? I'd probably say my first successful recipe of my own, specifically Blueberry Tea
Recipes you admire/love? This is such a weirdly loaded question because there's no way to not forget something. /u/AlfredPudding's 007 Cola sort of has to be on the list, right? Backwoods Lemonade by /u/EdibleMalfunction is a frustratingly simple and delicious mix, /u/eyemakepizza's Summer Drink is easily on the list for me as well. There are tons of other recipes that make me really think about how I'm using flavors, and what potential they have beyond what pops into my head.
White whale? I don't know that I have a specific white whale insofar as a single flavor that I haven't nailed down so much as I'm always chasing down making another recipe I'm happy with. Maybe a good coconut rum cake? I have been meaning to redouble my efforts in that direction for quite a while.
How would you describe your mixing style? reckless? There are absolutely days where mixing is in essence making myself a "Chopped" basket of flavors and trying to shoehorn them all into a recipe that isn't a disaster. Beyond that, so much of what I mix comes about through pure stream of consciousness decision making that it's hard to say there's any coherent logic behind about 2/3 of what I decide to mix.
Advice for new mixers? You're going to fuck up. We all have, and it's okay. You're going to have questions. We all have, and it's okay. Don't be afraid to utilize the resources you have at hand, whether that be reading the sidebar information again, making a post here, taking your questions to discord, or otherwise. Take notes on your experiences, test your flavors, study other people's recipes, read flavor reviews. There is no valid point where you should stop learning.
Are there any concentrates not on the market that you wish would be available? Is so, what are they?
A competent savory flavor or truly effective sour
How many flavors do you actually have?
My stash on ATF says 259, so probably not too far off from there. I'm sure I've missed a couple though.
Which ones did you buy on a whim and never use 'cuz they suck?
If men could bear children..would you?
What am I thinking right now?
Unfortunately I cannot make any of your shared recipes yet. I’m going to buy whatever I’m missing for one on my next order. Which recipe are you most proud of? That will be the one I try
Oh God, that's an tough question.
BEWD is probably the obvious choice, right?
If you'd like to try something a bit more grounded in reality I'm quite proud of Breakfast of the Gods.
You've written a thousand or so hardware reviews any chance we'll get flavor reviews from you in the future?
I'll have two roundups in August for sure.
Also, I did do a quick breakdown of RF-SC lychee Friday night/Saturday morning, though I didn't give it it's own post.
If anyone sees something in my ATF stash that doesn't have any reviews, let me know (I'll be looking too, but more eyes and all that). I'd be happy to leave my thoughts about a few flavors up on the sub.
I'm not seeing any write up done on FW cherry berry thus far, so maybe that'd be a worthwhile first foray into the world of flavor reviews?
This is the first I've heard of it, so I'd love to know what it's all about and if it's worth picking up.
Sweden or Denmark?
What is your dream vaping setup?
A good dual coil, bottom airflow RDA and a DNA 250c dual battery or LiPo squonker that isnt a giant triangular brick
Taking 007 cola out of the equation, what’s the next most surprising recipe that you were surprised worked so well
I don't know that I can pinpoint one recipe above others. Any time flavor bending goes right is impressive. What makes 007 so impressive to me is that he was able to break the recipe down to such base components.
I think everybody agrees that 007 is some sort of witchcraft and wizardry lol
Do you like coffee, or are you one of those coffee-hating people who add things other than booze to it to make it something other than coffee?
100 duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized duck. Pick your opponent for the death match.
Do you hate vape or discard unsatisfactory mixes?
Depends on the level of dissatisfaction. If I'm unhappy with it but it's not killing me I'll hate vape it.
I've had a few mixes that were just noxious though and trying to hate vape them would have either lead to my quitting vaping or vomiting uncontrollably. Those just sit on my desk as a reminder of my own failures.
Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you- you could, you’ll do, you- you wants, you, you could do so, you- you’ll do, you could- you, you want, you want them to do you so much you could do anything?
Dude, like... What?
Ok so I've gotta ask for more depth to the Dark Bean thing. I'm a very casual mixer (making the best of maybe 30 flavors) and I have dark bean. I definitely noticed right away how persistent it is. But I also don't think it actually tastes like coffee, not the brewed version of it anyway. I think the best it tasted was like a drop of it in a 30ml mix with some chocolate deutsch and INW strawberry shisha. Weird recipe of me literally just trying to make a earthy flavor profile.
What more did you hate about it in recipes? What percentage were you using it at? I'm not defending it as much as want to know it's weaknesses for future experiments.
I used it before I found I should dilute it to 10% for use, so a big part of how much I hate it is colored by using it probably 5x higher than it ever should be. That said it doesn't taste like coffee even when used correctly. It might be capable of adding a coffee-esque note to a heavy tobacco or something like that but for actual coffee flavors, trying to tie that into an authentic beverage flavor, it'd be pretty terrible.
Most overlooked flavor in your opinion?
I consider you a mentor, you helped me come up with a recipe early on in my mixing mind expansion. What advice would to that want to expand their horizons, but don't feel confident enough to do so.
The very worst thing you're going to lose out on when trying a new flavor or profile is what, $5 if you get a flavor that's totally awful?
What are you missing out on if it's amazing and you refuse to pull the trigger?
Beyond that, your palate and the flavors available change constantly as time goes on. What you hated when you started vaping, whether it's chocolate, tobacco, or something else might be worlds better or worlds different than it was when you first tried them. Keeping an open mind is only ever going to serve you well.

This is such good advice. I've always been a fruit flavor only vape guy, now I love custards and I'm starting to like tobacco's as I'm trying to mix them. Same goes for dessert and pastry profiles.
I have always liked a wide range of things, but certain profiles have been just godawful for me in the past.
It took me probably 6 months of swearing that booze just doesn't belong in juice before I decided I'd try to prove myself wrong, and another month of trial and error to do so.
Point being, things changed and I am better for it.
You're always up for a collaborative mix, whats your favorite part of collaborative mixing? What are the negatives?
It's always fun to get someone else's feedback on a mix right in the moment and it's incredibly helpful to keeping your interests diverse when you're getting that immediate feedback and hearing other people's thoughts on where a mix should go as it's being built.
The biggest hurdle? How many times have you posted a recipe and had someone say "I'm missing 1/2/3 flavors"? Sometimes building a recipe with 3-4 people can boil down to a lot of that discussion before you even get to try your idea.
Where did you first get the idea that you could mix your own juice?
I was aware of the sub and did a bit of research early on. At some point when I was barely on Reddit I stumbled upon discussion of juice making on ECR, and found my way here to lurk a bit more.
Past that, speaking with a friend who had been making his own juice for a while by that point solidified the confidence I needed to actually go ahead and try mixing my own.
I'm going to make a recipe and name it after you. What should the flavor profile be and/or which ingredients must it include?
That's a surprisingly tricky question.
I'd say some form of rich dessert French toast/pain perdu, possibly paired with a coffee ice cream?

What did you smoke when you used to smoke?
I was a somewhat mercurial smoker. At various points it was Marlboro reds, lucky strike unfiltered, Djarum blacks, blend 27s, or various camel options. If I was sick, I switched to menthol for a few days..
Sometimes it just felt like time to shake things up a bit, so the pack in my pocket changed.
Are you ever concerned that your kid will grow up vaping because you did?
I guess I'd like to think that at a certain point, I'll be able to sit down with him and actually discuss what it is and why I'm doing it rather than the methods used to try to keep me from smoking, which largely amounted to being told "it's a nasty habit, don't do it" with an ashtray on the table between us. I do, at the very least, make a pointed effort to avoid vaping in front of him.
Maybe that's optimistic though?
I know you’ve mentioned that you use the model of cooking when thinking about mixing but also made BEWD like an abstract mix. Are there any other ways you approach making a mix that you use?
I guess it's all sort of knowing what some facet of the puzzle is and searching for the other pieces to the puzzle. Whether that's working backwards from an abstract name or working from base components to fit a profile.
I do really like the idea of working from a blind basket of flavors, grabbing 3 things at random and trying to fill in the gaps to make it a harmonious mix.
Late to the party, here goes. Tobacco is my jam. The majority of what I began vaping and mixing was tobacco. Fruits were way to sweet. This last year I've fallen in love with fruits. Doubled my stash, and now I'm about 75/25 fruit/tobacco because coils last way longer with fruits and I don't have time anymore to rewick every other day. I always have hated desserts/pastries/custard/bakeries. They make me feel nauseous and are just generally nasty. Maybe there was lots of butyric acid in what I tried. Where do I start if I want to not hate this massive category of juice? I want to broaden my skills and I feel like I'm not well rounded as a mixer being limited to fruits and tobaccos.
Root your adventures into bakeries and creams in things you know you already like.
Rather than throwing caution to the wind and aiming for the perfect horchata or something, maybe go for a creamy RY4 or jumping full well into baklava starting off with a berry pastry or a waffle with fruit you already know you like.
If you're interested, I have a few recipes on ATF that might work to help you bridge the gap.
