#Hot Seat Sunday
So, this is an idea for a weekly thread… Basically it's a AMA thread with a twist – the 'victim' gets to name who is next up in the rotation. It was started by u/juthinc in this thread here and it was continued by u/isuamadog in here, and continued here by u/humanpuck, and pizza boy by /u/eyemakepizza, /u/ID10-T AMA is [here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/biaw9t/hot_seat_sunday_ama_with_id10t/) and finally the latest one bye /u/vApe_Escape [right here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/bl0pcx/hot_seat_sunday_with_ama_vape_escape/)
There are some rules:
-
try picking someone who hasn't gone yet
-
it has to be someone who actively posts here
-
no dead people (ie: notcharlesmanson isn't eligible)
-
preferably a name that people recognize, 'regular poster' means someone who is a) alive and b) has posted in the last three months
-
Complete the FAQ before posting
-
if you do the hot seat, you can add up to three names to the list of people who are potential victims. Now, in the interest of saving some likely to be asked questions from coming up multiple times, I've included a FAQ below. With that said (and remembering to not repeat questions from the FAQ) fire away. Oh, and next time, it's someone's turn and you will be pm'ed regarding your participation. (possibly /u/ediblemalfunction /u/matthewkokanda /u/philosaphucker /u/chemicalburnvictim /u/AlfredPudding /u/Foment_Life u/modivin u/Up2MyHead u/odiedoodah u/Apexified u/kindground).

#FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
-
How'd you get your handle? I have been into photography since I was pretty young, and Nikons were my first ever professional camera. Nikon has been my handle for computer things since way back in high school. I added the ml to the beginning of it to separate my previous internet activity from this new mixing world I had entered and it seemed to fit. Plus at the time I created my name Wayne was calling himself mlWayne on a couple of his videos and I thought it was funny so I am sort of making fun of him :) Love you man.
-
How long have you been mixing for? I started in July 2016 and just dove in head first creating my own recipes, which were all hot garbage of course but it just fueled me to go deeper.
-
MTL or DTL? DTL definitely, but a restricted lung hit. I can't do mtl even though I would like to as it hurts my chest which is weird because I sure had no problem puffing on those stinky sticks.
-
Current flavor or profile obsession? I don't really have one, I am constantly switching flavors on a daily basis. I guess I always come back to bakeries and deserts though.
-
Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected? There are so many disappointing flavors that its hard to say but my first one was tfa cheesecake. I bought it in the beginning days when I didn't know much and was just buying stuff that sounded good, boy was I wrong. I wanted it to work so bad I wasted so many man hours making mixes that were just terrible.
-
Mixing Milestone? I would have to say the biggest one would be when I got into the diyordie mixing competion and proved people that this "noname" mixer might know what she was doing with [In A Godda Da Vida] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/26946#in_a_godda_da_vida_by_mlnikon)
-
Recipes you admire/love? There are so many good mixes out there to really answer this without writing an entire page. I know I will leave out quite a few mixes and mixers but the few that stand out to me right now is [Brutus The Barber] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/320637/Brutus%20the%20Barber%20Lemon%20Poundcake) by Fresh, as it was the first lemon vape that I really enjoyed and [Sweet Strawberry Cream] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/3600#sweet_strawberry_cream_by_cheebasteeba) by Cheeba Steeba for the same reason only strawberry. I am not going to list any more, not because there aren't a ton of mixes that I really admired but those were sort of the first two that showed me what mixing can do.
-
White whale? A Really good peaches and cream was one of them but I just caught that one, for my liking anyway. I suppose my next white whale is a pineapple upside down cake. I have been wanting that mix for a while but just sort of put it on the back burner but now its time to attack it head on.
-
How would you describe your mixing style? I suppose you can say my mixing style is simple. Some might even describe it as lazy. I tend to use few ingredients but pick flavors that do multiple things in the mix or are just really good flavors then use just a few supporting flavors to highlight the star.
-
Advice for new mixers? If you are interested in developing your own recipes one day, I strongly suggest you start single flavor testing your flavors. Test all the flavors of a certain profile side by side. It will not only help you learn your flavors but it will also train your palate to start picking out the differences in your flavors.

What's it like, doing Noted? For the most part it is an absolute blast. I love the guys I work with and its so much fun to just sit around and talk flavors, which is one of my favorite things to do. It can get a little tedious preparing for the shows and doesn't leave much time for recipe development but I am happy to make that sacrifice because I love doing it so much and really want to help the people that watch.
Ems! You're in the hot chair yaaay!
I remember in the past, you've mentioned tobaccos aren't your field of expertise, but is there a slight chance that you one day might dig deeper into it?
I would love to see a tobacco recipe from you!
Never! haha the closest thing I will get into messing with tobaccos is using FA Soho or DIYFS Holy Holy Grail in recipes.
Only 3 flavor companies can exist, which 3 do you choose?
oh jeez, that's tough, probably tfa, fw, and cap because at the beginning that was all I really knew and you can make a lot of good tasting juice with those flavor houses. Thank goodness we can choose from more than 3 because I don't know what I would do without companies like wonder flavors and vape train.
Since u/ID10-T isn’t here, which is a more interesting sight: a beautiful horse or 100 lovely ducklings?
ducklings for sure!
Follow up question: If you had to murder one or the other, or be murdered by them, which would it be?
Where did you first get the idea that you could mix your own juice?
A friend of mine that vaped actually brought it up. He was interested in doing it so I thought it would be fun if we started it together. I took it way farther than he ever did as he just wanted something cheap to vape and I took it to a whole nother obsessed level.
Hi Em, love watching Noted... even if I miss the live.. always watch the replay..learn a lot about flavors from you guys and base some of my flavor purchases on all your recommendations.... the guys you work with are great and funny too... lol.. my vape bag is a large camera bag with Nikon on it... now that I know where your name is from... lol... keep up the great work! 🎈
What is one flavor you absolutely cannot live without?
Well, it changes so often haha, I get hooked on a flavor. Right now its a toss up between VT Yogurt Drink and WF Vanilla Cream Xtra. That doesn't mean I make a bunch of mixes with them either, I have a few but I just love it when I can use those flavors. Next month it most likely will be something else.
Name 10 things that make you smile. :D
My dog Koda: a german shepherd/greyhound mix
My wife Meghan when she's being a dork
Spring flowers like lilacs and tulips
When someone has told me that I helped them or taught them something
Chocolate
Nice sunny spring days
Winning something: I can be quite competitive!
Hanging out with good friends
Working out, esspecially outside when its nice
Knitting
Can I see the last painting you created?
ha ha of course you can! it is the Thumbnail for If You Like Pina Coladas! I don't really do watercolor very much anymore. I tend to cycle through hobbies where I'll be totally into one hobby and learn everything I can about it and dive in head first (like I did with mixing) and then eventually burn out and get bored of it and move on to another hobby. Right now that hobby is knitting and calisthenics.
Do you like to cook?
If you were limited to only three recipes for the next year, what three would you choose?
Do they have to be my own? If so these ones:
[Peachy Keen Ice Cream] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/150965#peachy_keen_ice_cream_by_mlnikon)
[Vanilla Cronut] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/115532#vanilla_cronut_by_mlnikon)
I really like your comment on point 9. If one has 60+ flavours on hand to work with, there are so many things you can do starting with one to three of them that you have a good handle on. The rest is icing on the cake so to speak.
- What's your favorite part of the collaborative mixing process?
- The new mixers learned a lot from the mixer showdown, did you learn anything you'd like to share?
- What did it feel like to whoop ID10-T and Kopel?
- Do you think Rin purposely tries to turn you red every time she's on a show with you?
- Do you have a favorite Custard base?
- If so what is it?
- What recommendations would you make to a person that's just getting started with mixing custards?
My favorite part of any collaborative process is the fact that I get to learn from other great mixers, whether it is a recipe that I get to work on with Mary Beth, or a competion where I get to mix with Alfred Pudding and Vishousness I always get something out of it.
Well I learned that Cap Hibiscus is a great tool you can use with bakeries to make the fruit you are using more of a jelly. I have always used Hibiscus as a sticky sweet additive before but I had never thought of using it in bakeries, it worked wonderfully.
It felt so great, I had been waiting for another chance to beat those guys for so long. They are both very talented mixers and I was honored just to compete with them, but ever since they beat me(Dave in the diyordie world mixers competion and Kopel in a one to one) I have been patiently waiting for my revenge!
Yes, Rin tries to embarrass me every show pretty much. Its like her mission in life haha.
I don't really have a favorite Custard base. Its not that I don't like custards, its just that different flavors will work for different situations and there isn't a one size fits all for me.
Any suggestion I make to new mixers regardless of what you like to mix is, get to know your flavors. Whether that be single flavor testing them or making several versions of a mix just swapping out one flavor you need to know what the tools you have available to you can do.
I pretty much only vape desserts and I frequently browse your profile on ATF. Thank you!
Question - Should I pay shipping from Europe to get FA Premium Custard?
How does the mixing community treat females, have you experienced any negativity based on your gender?
I'm not really sure. I don't think any differently, nothing I have noticed anyway. Maybe one thing is not getting taken as seriously like when Alfred pudding gets all the credit for winning a comp haha. But seriously though, I haven't been treated negatively at all based on my gender or anything else. This is a great community.

What was the most memorable/fun episode of Noted for you?
-
Same question but Mixin Vixens?
- There have been so many super fun episodes of Noted. I would have to say the one that jumps out to me is when you wore the shark head. Or the one where you were drunk and took off your pants. Actually all the ones that stick out to me revolve around your shenanigans.
2)That would probably be one of the shows when we've had a guest on, I love bringing people on the show and talking about them. We need to do that more. Our chit chat shows are always a good time as well because we have more leniency to just shoot the bull and have a good time.
Saw you answered the only 3 mixes on a desert island scenario. Two offshoot questions:
(1) what if they were from other mixers?
(2) if someone were to try three of your mixes, not necessarily representing a wide range just whatever you wanted them to try, what would they be?
(1) I am going to chicken out and not answer this, there are just so many awesome mixes and I don't want to leave anyone out.
(2) Probalby Vanilla Cronut, In A Godda Da Vidda, and Slow Deocide
I’m going to make a recipe and name it after you. What should the flavor profile be and/or which ingredient(s) must it include?
Aww that would be awesome! The flavor profile should probably be something bright and refreshing haha. I love bakery profiles but I see myself as something orangey maybe lol.
Your secret weapon against vaper’s tongue? What’s your favourite atty for flavour at the moment? What’s the (biggest) challenge in mixing commercial juices? What gets you in the mood for love: Marvin Gaye or Fear reading the Boston Yellow Pages?
- Vapers tongue can be a bitch, I normally just completely switch flavor profiles all together, go with something super clean and simple.
2)My favorite flavor atty has to be the hadaly or entheon. I hate to sound like a fan girl but they have really good flavor. I don't have too many to compare them to but I don't feel like I need to go out and get a bunch of rdas to try because I am happy with what I have.
3)Commercial juice mixing has been like learning to mix all over again. You can't really do a lot of nuanced layers and you need to make sure your flavors are bold and bright.
4)Fear reading anything, definitely Fear!
