#Hello everyone,
This isn't a post I'm happy to be making. It is however a post I feel very strongly about, and something I think you all will feel is important as well.
One of our own, /u/Kindground has been providing us all with valuable posts and comments for longer than many of us have been part of this community. Whether that's his Flavor round-ups, recipes he has shared, insight into a recipe you're working on, or generally finding ways to share information/opinions with the rest of us. I don't think it is a stretch to say that he has probably impacted a recipe or two you've tried at some point in recent memory. If you've tried the Vanilla ice cream trinity on its own, or in one permutation or another, his influence exists there.
Unfortunately, Kindground needs a bit of help right now, he has recently been diagnosed with cancer. The strain from this disease cannot be overstated. I implore you, if you have the means, to send a small bit of kindness toward a man who has been incredibly generous to all of us with his knowledge and time.
#Consider donating to his GoFundMe campaign
Thank you all for your time.
There's not much else I could say about Kindground's contributions to the community - all the helpful comments and posts, the recipes, the awesome flavor round ups and notes and the time he tried to help us all write better recipe reviews.
I can tell you that some of the most fun I've had doing Noted has been with Kindground on recent blueberry, lemon, and boysenberry shows and every one of those also had some of the most useful information dropped by him.
I mix one of Kindground's "recipes" - UnJuice - every week, sometimes two or three times per week. If you mix it at 80/20 with your preferred nic level, you can use it as a base by clicking the "Use Basic Eliquid" button, and that's what I do for all my single-flavor tests. So I think about his guy at least weekly. Mostly just wondering when UnJuice will become his most-mixed recipe or counting the days until he'll be on Noted again, but still... and sometimes about how he hung in there so strong for his wife when she was fighting cancer and the fun we had in Mixers' Club before that understandably took up too much of his time.
I think of Kindground as not only part of the DIY community as a whole or as an important part of this subreddit, but as part of my own DIY juice "family."
I want to do more than just personally donate to GoFundMe, I want us to do some kind of fundraiser to take it a step further. Anyone have any ideas about how to do that, that I can help with?
There's a large prize pool being collected and I'm trying to help coordinate a marathon stream like we've done in the past. Daytime Frank and I are scouring the earth for donations and we have a sizeable number of pledges already, full flavor lines and store credits from a number of companies. Once details are set I'll announce more both here and FB/Discord
Well hell, DIYorDIE is doing the same thing and asked me to help with that. We should all team up.
I haven’t done anything as far as the prize pool other than reach out to ECX, but I offered to try to help coordinate various YouTube content creators to do the marathon stream. Skiddlz had the idea of having people do their regular shows but move the times to fit in as part marathon. I know Noted could happen during it as part of it, maybe MixLife could be resurrected too for a hour or so, if we could get one or more of Fresh’s shows to take up part of the time, plus Jarvis, Mixin Vixens, Developed, FogVlog, etc etc...
I want to do more too. How practical would it be to sell flavor shots online and contribute all sales to his fund? I’m sure many here would be happy to donate flavors, mix them together, or otherwise contribute if we had a viable plan to sell them. I have no idea if this is a realistic fundraising idea or not, just thought I’d throw it out there.
Unfortunately, the market regulations for food flavorings as well as vape flavors is strict. Anything regarding using these as a fundraiser would be an underground effort.
If we could get some kind of other fundraiser going that could certainly be one of the prizes or auction items.
We make glass display boxes for mods... (tubes and box mods) ... if there is time to make one for an auction I would donate one for it... we fought breast cancer 2 yrs ago... my partner is cancer free... but it was a horrible thing going thu that and it was during the holidays... if no time to make the glass... I will donate cash.. as much as I can... I have seen kind around the forums and recipe sites... My prayers for the family... 🙏🙏
Even if the glass wasn't able to be made in time for the auction who cares! I'm sure the winner would be fine with waiting a little bit.
I've conversed with kindground since my early days of mixing. He's such a monumental piece of the puzzle in the DIY community and has done so much for the sub. I'm very fond of the days at the start of the Mixers Club when we got to try each other's recipes and got to know our mixing styles.
You're definitely in my heart, kindground
I'm don't know Kindground but he sounds like a great fella. That's fucking horrible...why does it always hit the best people!? I've donated a little and would happily buy some flavour shots if something was set up.
This is a great idea, like a one shot of his recipes or a his lemonade base "Lemon boi" or some shit. Somebody get ECX on the phone, and if you cant, just call somebody, anybody then just hang up.
Oh shit. I'll send some support when I end my trip.
Btw, you even have to pay for chemo in US? That's just fucked up. Not only you have cancer but you only spend every last penny to be able to survive it? So on top of the shit you are going through, you worry about not ruining your family financially. I'm sorry for OT, but as an European this got me angry AF.
Medical bills are the #1 cause of bankruptcies in the U.S.
Also the #1 cause of health insurance company execs buying their second and third yachts.
And government somehow thinks that's ok? Or is there any willingness to change things? I guess it'd be hard to change the whole system, but many, if not most, developed countries have "free" (you still have to pay insurance, but it covers everything necessary) healthcare with not many problems.
Daytime Frank and I are raising raffle prizes right now, and a stream is being planned with Wayne. There are full lines from multiple flavor houses and some coupon codes and store credits. I've been messaging and emailing people all day for it. If any of you who have industry connections would like to help approach these companies for raffle donations please feel free to contact me to coordinate. Any one who has donated will be able to send a proof of donation of 5$ will be able to enter. For every 5$ you donate it will be an extra entry. I'll have more information available over the next day or two.
Edit: Myself and some other mixers will also be donating our time. I will be offering personal video mixing lessons for the raffle. If any of you other mixing veterans would be interested in doing the same please contact me.
I'm donating professional recipe development. Essentially the same thing we do for juice companies, but for the price of a raffle ticket instead of $$$ to $$$$ and for an individual instead of a company. You give me a profile, I keep sending you samples until you're pleased with the results, then I give you the recipe.
I am deeply saddened to hear this.... He needs all the help he can get.
One must ask, is this esophageal cancer in part due to his vaping?
As a vaping community I feel a discussion would be important, hope I did not step on anyone’s toes.
Queuetue put this together last night, for people who want more information about the raffle and charity drive. Check it out here There's information on where to send your donation entries for the raffle, and a rough schedule. Details are still filling in, but please consider in participating and sharing this wherever you think it might be impactful. Much love.
