How long do you keep your DIY-mixed vjuice?
submitted over 6 years ago by RancerDS

This could be interpreted as asking: "What the longest a batch lasts for you?" or "What is your maximum shelf-life?" Or maybe it's asking all three. The longest of mine, not counting throw-togethers, was about 5 months. It ended up tasting soapy and floral. That could have been the VG going bad in it more than the concentrates eventually tasting that way; just guessing. So was wondering what was the longest people (DIY'ers) were keeping their mixed up recipes.

I had a year and a half old bottle kicking around, stored poorly, probably over flavored to begin with, had lots of head space (read: oxygen) in the bottle itself.

I vaped it. It was terrible. Surprisingly not as nic spicy as I'd imagined, but lacking any clear flavor aside from water that had gone bad. I don't know how exactly water could go bad, but that's the best I've been able to describe it. Watery and foul.

I think there's an awful lot of variables in play with regards to storage time. What I did was probably about as worst case scenario as it gets.

I usually make big batches of things, so when I lose interest in a flavour there is a good chance I will still have a couple of 100ml bottles of it made up. I store everything in a dark cupboard aside from the 2-3 bottles of what I am actually using. I vape about 10-15Ml a day

I have found that up to about a year it’s usually fine. Flavours change, some get better, others not so much. But totally vapable. But at about a year or so they all start to turn to shit and taste of nothing really.

Generally once I notice I have a bottle reach 9 months I will either make a point to use it up, or give it to someone who will.

Completely agree. My 6 month old high Octane Coffee with caramel notes and more, just seems to keep getting better. It's based on PG Nic, PG flavors and was intended for a small Aspire K3 with low wattage. But I find it delicious in a 65 watt Nepho Tank with mesh coils....oh so yum.

I guess it really depends on device, wattage, coil type and mix percentage overall. Some juice really has no middle ground from what I gather in posts in Reddit. What's great at 50/50 may truly suck at 70/30 or even steep times in certain Coils and wattages.

Knowing your device is a serious factor. Knowing the mix percent for that device to achieve award winning ADV only comes with time.

I've found that it depends on the flavour. I've had a few go nasty after around 3 - 4 months. Others have fragile top notes that can dissapear in a few weeks. The longest I've kept juice is probably about 18 months and some of these were fine after that long.

My SO and I both vape. Him more when he's home, and me nigh constantly. I usually mix about 300mls which will last the both of us a month, and that's including the bottles I make that get lost and found later. Since the bottles I've been using range from 5-30mls, it's pretty easy to tuck some extra bottles in various places of the house.

Latest batch was about 500mls because we ran out of the last batch more quickly than normal. It seems like too much, but my mixes seem good for about 3 months before they start tasting funky. So found bottles get finished off too..

I've found that by sterilizing various glass jars, such as BBQ sauces, jelly jars, etc that I regularly use, it's a world of difference between plastic and glass with sufficient air out time per batch ( close up, shake for five mins, uncap for an hour ) before sealing it up for long duration vape goodness.

Coils also and their age affect taste, if I switch to another....say a dark coffee, I'll change out the coil and zip lock it up, and add a fresh coil. I cycle my Coils based on flavors and clarity. It's night and day at times.

Woah thank you! I'll have to try your suggestions with my next batch!

Hope it helps, it's what I've found to work better.

I water soak the labels off my BBQ jars, this leaves clear glass to write on with my recipe.

Name of Recipe

Percent mix 50/50, 60/40, 70/30 etc

Nic whether it's Pg or VG based ( I do Pg Nic, wife does VG Nic. )

Flavor % overall

Maker of flavor, Cap, TFA...etc

Date of mix

Expected steep time

Nic % of 3%, 6% etc

Device intended for...

I do this in sharpie as a write on label on glass. I recycle bottles using rubbing alcohol to clean off bottles.

If you want to extend the life of mixes, put them in a box the blocks out light and put it in your fridge to keep it cool.

Agree. Anything I'm not using today I keep in the fridge and very few things have gone off in there, though some things have been in there for like, a year.

Mine turn into a homogenous mess after a long time.

I try now to bulk steep some bases and shake/vape 2-4oz recipes from that.

Some recipes age well for a few months. Others (high in EM, or bright delicate flavs) can be only at peak for a month tops

Best answer so far, I think. Thanks for that. :)

Acetyl Pyrazine / Peanut, some banana flavors must nut flavors in general must be vaped immediately. Mix without adding air bubbles like 10 mil in your pockets all day.Mix a 100 mil in “infinity jar” and gently shake and divide out 3 or 5 into 10 mils at a time. The Infinity Jar will keep the nicotine from going south on you and a tainted flavor in long term steep’s for say a Mama J’s custard. So try to divide your mixed large amount into 10 mil bottles that are UV prof to keep the nicotine good or change brand of nicotine if that doesn’t work.

I keep nic and flavor in the fridge, then mix it 30ml at a time. Lasts about 5 days-7.

Sometimes I loose a bottle and find it months later. I vaped it once... it was terrible. Saw another comment or saying bad water. It was that exactly

I’m not doing it very accurately, just counting drops.

I have some tobaccos from last summer that are still good. some fruits that one or two flavors died off where others havent. leaving that small amount of sweetener added to really seem sickly sweet. 4-6 months for tobaccos almost the same. i dont mess with creams, bakeries too much but they seem to last well too

It depends on the flavors used and how much head room is in the bottle. How the bottle seals is probably a factor too. I think commercial juices can hang around because they're unopened.
