Tutorial Tuesday DIY Style April 30, 2019: The Sky Is not The limit

Recap:

u/modivin keeps repping his radio station and king of all DJs status. I really need to check out the show some time.

Following that, there were some massive bromance moments between members of the discord concerning choice of music.

u/Lasgar showed up to share some much welcomed information regarding builds and gear in the hardware channel of the server.

u/Up2MyHead shared his Orange You Glad I Didn't Say Cactus recipe, which looks like something I'm going to need to try.

Wild CAC mentions pop up at least once a week, and this past one was no exception.

u/staybert shared a unique 1-2-3 with TFA Pistachio, HS Blueberry and JF Yellowcake. He also gave us his refreshingly tasty and fizzy Citraspberry Soda recipe, which I can personally vouch for.

u/isuamadog and u/eyemakepizza worked on a mango pomegranate gin mix together. How'd that turn out guys?

The server also expanded greatly last week, as it has been continuing to do. Not just with new users joining, but also with new channels, branching out into non-mixing related topics. There's just about something for everyone there. Hell, at this point, you could probably not even mix and hang out while still having some great conversations.

Introduction:

Expansion and change are wonderful, necessary things that should occur in life. Without it, things get stagnant, people get complacent, boredom sets in. And that's definitely not a good thing.

Idea:

Expand your horizons. Try a mix you may not normally try, or even order a flavor you don't think you like, but others may praise. Lets get weird. u/staybert posted a great topic about abstract juices. Lets build on that.

Today's Discussion Topic:

Talk about your white whale mixes. Something you just cant quite get right, or close to the final version of it. And discuss profiles you have always wanted to try, but are too worried you wouldn't like them.

As always, come see us in the discord, or continue the discussion here!

Just want to add to the OP if I could:

  1. Don't go by the name of the flavor on the bottle. Just because it says apple or leopard doesn't mean you have to use it in that sense.

  2. Don't worry about failures. Use them as learning opportunities. We aren't B&M stores making 2 flavor TPA mixes here. It takes time to craft something perfectly suited to your tastes.

  3. and in direct contrast to number 2 don't overthink it too much and end up on V8.11.6.2.3 when it was actually pretty damn decent 40 variants ago.

Thanks, I often feel like I don't really contribute enough here but my time is pretty limited.

I totally understand that. What time you do utilize here is very... Utilized. By that I mean you make it count with great information.

Thanks for the shout out! The discord (and this sub for that matter) really is an amazing group of people. <3

In case you haven't checked out the post on abstract recipies, I thought I'd share a few very inspirational quotes from u/Foment_life:

> I do love the idea of just toying around with a bunch of things that are just individually tasty and seeing what shakes out in the end.
>
> Something I do from time to time (including BEWD's Genesis) is let a name for a mix dictate what the flavors are in the mix. Sort of working backwards without any constraint but a fun name. Focusing on what tastes good and fits the name rather than what fits a given flavor profile.

I think that was why the 1-2-3 threads were so fun, because the name came first.

Rather humbling that you find those bits inspirational.

Anything in particular you've been toying with?

I think it helps people that are new in mixing, because when you are just getting started everything seems very technical. So it takes a while before you get comfortable enough to start testing your own ideas, yet alone going outside your comfort zone.

Regarding the more abstract thing, I threw together this 1-2-3 which ended up pretty tasty.

Now I'm mainly using all the lovely people in the discord to finish 2 profiles I have been chasing for a while; A raspberry soda and a Pistachio RY4.

I saw that 1-2-3 the other day, regrettably I am missing 2/3 of it.

Raspberry soda eh?

I can also vouch for Citrasberry Soda, I'm a fan.

Also my white whale...Apple Cola. I haven't spent a ton of time working on it, but my first attempt somehow tastes like spiced chai with no milk...weird I know.

Suddenly a wild CAC appears!

Also, hey, that's my name! It's not gonna win mix of the year awards or anything, but I've been enjoying it more than I expected. Even mixed up some for DTL, and it's quite enjoyable. If you like fun, bright, fruity, and cold give it a mix.

I think I'll write up my grape lemon lime banger too for everyone too.

As for white whales... Man. That's tough. I have a project I've been working on a lot lately. It started as an update to castle long, but it's veered in a more personal direction. I'm a huge fan of barrel aged notes, and I'm working on something to showcase that aspect of a mix.

Steep times are long, and I don't burn through juice like I used too, so it's been moving at the speed of bureaucracy. Slowly. I'm hoping to at least have an alpha version up on discord soon, where mixers FAR better than I can hopefully help it stick its landing.

White whale is probably Vapetasia Killer Kustard. Unfortunately it's been so long since I've had it and I'm probably never going to pick up a bottle again. All I know is it blew me away the first time I vaped it but at the same time I've made some kick ass shit since then. If I ever do vape it again I'll probably think it's gross and be like, WTF was I thinking?

I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but I had a question about storing VG. I purchased a 1L bottle of VG premixed with 3mg from LNW. I don’t mind flavors every now and then but I prefer vaping unflavored 100% VG. Anyways how should I go about storing the VG until I’m ready to use it? Thanks!
