New DIYer that's taken first step
submitted over 6 years ago by zarboi

Hi everyone,

Firstly I want to thank you all for such a great community, it's been so helpful browsing and searching this sub reddit :)

I've been vaping for a few years now, and shelled out alot of money on ejuice, and recently I have fell on hard times, so I have finally decided to take action.

I've decided to follow this recipe: Püdio which is a Pistachio based ejuice created by u/Arpeggiator8472 (Since I LOVE Pistachio). I went ahead and ordered the concentrates from the U.S. (I'm from Australia). The concentrated actually cost half what the shipping was, but I insisted on ordering from U.S. and not locally as some of the concentrates are simply not available locally and I didn't want to jeopardize the final product, then I ordered the PG, VG & Nicotine base from New Zealand.

I am very excited for this, and just wanted to share my first step with you all, and I will also keep you updated on how it goes.

Once again, I want to thank you ALL, especially the mods who have constructed a very easy to navigate sidebar, which I suggest to anyone new to the game.

Peace out <3

tldr: I am new to the DIY scene and just ordered first batch of supplies, and wanted to thank everyone for amazing support on this sub.

I think it's extremely important to curb your expectations, as taste is subjective (extremely). Don't put all of your proverbial eggs in one basket and don't give up if this one specific recipe doesn't cut it for your tastes. This is all part of the journey!

Good luck.

Haha I should know all about subjective taste as none of my vaper friends enjoy the flavors I enjoy. Fingers crossed on this one. Thanks for the wisdom brudda/sistah :)

Do yourself a favor and start with small (10ml) test batches until you get it dialed in. Nothing worse than dumping out the last of your supplies because a batch went wrong.

10ml is a good test batch size imo too. Unlike me making 4 60ml testers my first time (with only TFA strawberry ripe, TFA Berry Crunch, and Cap. sweet cream - thinking I could make greatness lol - did end up with some alright (at best) bases I was able to reuse elsewhere luckly.)

I’ve also decided to start on DIY and have particular tastes. I ordered about 30 flavors and got myself an RDA for testing. I’m going to start with recommended recipes to get a feel for it and I’ll dig deeper into what I’m actually looking for once I’ve learned more. I hope we both have a great journey!

Welcome /u/zarboi! Always great to see a new Aussie mixer! The laws here are getting funky - we need all the community and enthusiasm we can get.

Some regional favourites - Cherry Ripe, Cottees, and Golden Gaytime!

I can't express how much of a valuable resource this subreddit, and their Discord, has been to me over the last year. Putting in the time, learning how to Google effectively, and sift the valid information from 'great at 8% with some sweetner!!'

A friendly heads up that we have an Aussie focused vaping Discord as well, with a relatively active mixing community. We'd love to have you and help you find the good bargains at the good stores (:

Dude what? those flavors sound off tap lol, Golden Gaytime... Mhmmmm yum. Yeah the laws are scaring me, I've been thinking that after I get a good foot hold of the DIY process and gain some confidence, I will invest in a decent amount of Nic Base and Concentrates and store them, VG/PG will always be easy to get. Would hate to have the government crack down on the Vape Industry then prices will inflate even more and supporting local businesses will be hard and I will have to resort to ordering exclusivley from online!

And thanks for the discord share, I just joined and browsing through, really cool :)

Fellow Aussie zarboi. You can actually source all the ingredients for Pudio in Australia. The INW Marzipan seemed to be the most difficult to find, but Juice Factory have it in stock in both 30ml and 135ml bottles. I know shipping from the US hits really hard so I rarely do it. If you need to order internationally in future, Chefs and Rainbowvapes in the UK seem to be better for Shipping to Aus.

When searching for concentrates in Australia type something like 'Inawera Marzipan site:au' and you only get hits in Australia.

Thank you for the wisdom bro, the issue I had was that ordering from AU would require to order from different stores as none of the ones I found had all the concentrates I needed, and there was 1 concentrate I couldn't find at all. I will use ur google search method in the future to search for what I need, it's much appreciated :)

Good! You will have successes and failures to start, but it's totally worth it. I've loved being able to create my own flavours, it makes vaping so much more enjoyable. even if it was occasionally a little frustrating to begin with :) but you'll have an easier time, i didn't know about this community when i started, you'll have good people to help you.

Yeah dude I got sick of shelling out good money to 'hopefully' find the right flavor, except I never found it. This way I will save alot of money, be more invested in the process, and feel the rewarding sensation of making my own juice, and hopefully discover flavors that truly satisfy me :)

Every flavor in that recipe is often used in other popular and tasty recipes. You won't have any trouble finding other things to make with them. Good start.

That's sweet, is there a way I can know which recipes I can make using the concentrates I have? or just by pure research? Thank you :)

Pure research is the best way. An easy way is to make an account on ATF and add those flavors in your stash. Then go to the "what can I make" option first. Then later on play with the +1 and +2 filter. u/ID10-T mentioned some time ago that there's a -1 and -2 option as well but I don't know how to do it.

Go to menu, /u/zarboi , select "What Can I Make?"

This tells me I can make 3,886 recipes.

Go to the pull down menu that says "Filter"

Go down to where it says "+1" and select that.

Now go over to the other side of that search bar and click that red magnifying glass.

Bam! Now there are 5,762 recipes I could make if I had just one more flavor for each one. Often the one missing ingredient is something I could find a substitute for, or even just leave out and still make something good.

If I repeat the process but choose "+2," the number of recipes I could make hits 6,457, with two missing flavors. Two missing flavors is usually a lot harder to replace or leave out, but this can really help make a shopping list for what to by next.

I can then use that same Filter thingy to sort all those recipes in various ways. I prefer to sort By Rating to find the recipes that people have loved, rather than popular or hottest, which is just the recipes people have looked at or are looking at this week, or most mixed, which is more of a measure of successful hyping than actual enjoyment.

Wow that's exactly what I was looking for :) Kudos to you and u/ID10-T :)

I made that PÜDIO recipe pretty much right away. Then I waited 9 days after mixing per the instructions. It's only been a couple of days (of vaping it), but it's really good IMO.

Welcome to the rabbit hole and don't forget to enjoy the whole journey and not just the final product (although that's pretty darn good in itself).

Good luck and you're in good company down in the hole with the rest of us :)
