Single Flavors You've Sampled Recently?
submitted over 6 years ago by RancerDS

Are there any other concentrates you've tried of late? :) Just give everyone a quick mention of how it turned out for you; no fancy rating system needed nor any in-depth review required. While it's doubtful that most of us see the results as simply 'good' or 'bad' or 'so-so', that little bit of information can be enough to help steer someone towards the right choices. Especially if they've learned they have basically the same palate as you.

Personally hadn't mixed up anything this week. I may stir a couple of things together in the next 48. When I have, will add it as a comment here. I will include something made 5 months ago that was briefly discussed.... mostly be cause I started vaping it again.......

Vape Wild (VW) Candy Watermelon - Good
It definitely tastes like watermelon. For me, it isn't sweet enough nor giving a candy vibe (gummy, hard, etc.). Am getting watermelon rind with an tiny off-note of swimming pool air. It's pretty good after adding CAP Super Sweet [approx. 1 drop per 8 mL]. Don't drink black coffee while vaping it, doesn't taste so nice then. :)
P.S. Basically borrowed from another post of mine, so it may seem familiar to some!

I tried some boysenberry flavors.

JF Boysenberry It tastes like an under-ripe peach. Not even really a boysenberry flavor, just a terrible, crunchy, juiceless peach, with a touch of indistinct berry on the end there. Suggested use: 0%

FW Boysenberry - There’s an ELR user who says it “tastes like a brothel” in Swedish and while that kind of makes me want to visit a Swedish brothel, because the flavor isn’t THAT bad, it’s not great, either, especially when you consider the other options for Boysenberry. The problems with it is that it is a bit floral and quite a bit soapy at the same time (Swedish brothels are cleaner than other brothels, maybe?). It does seem to hit Boysenberry in the sense that it tastes like a combination between a blackberry and a raspberry, more blackberry than raspberry, but it has the baggage of some of the less desirable characteristics that some blackberry and raspberry flavors tend to have. There’s a nice medium sweet-ish sort of jammy dark berry with some depth in there, but it’s got those off notes and while also being a somewhat soft flavor. The tartness is missing. Tried at 2, 4%, wouldn't want to go higher than 4%.

RFSC Boysenberry Typical RFSC BS, not one of the good ones like strawberry, blackberry, or black raspberry. The color of this concentrate is dark reddish brown, causing me to be concerned that there might actually be boysenberry juice in there, since all of the other ones are either yellow or clear. When diluted, it’s the only one that isn’t clear or just lightly off of clear; it’s kind of a light rose gold. It kind of tastes like the color rose gold, too. It’s very soft in flavor but what little flavor is there is a like sweet-tart berry berry at first (like a strawberry raspberry combo) that gets a bit darker (blackberry) with a sweet sort of dried out jammy body (astronaut jam?), but not deeply saturated or super flavorful. Flavor dies off completely by the end of exhale ending in just dry sweetness. Tried at 2.5 and 5%, not much more flavor at 5% than at 2.5%, it's just a soft flavor.

OoO Boysenberry - Very sweet dark red berry with an interesting finishing tartness rather than initial tartness, but a little soapy for me on top. Ignoring the hint of soapiness in case it’s just my damage and not something that would show up for others, it tastes like candy. Has a very sweet-tarts vibe, like a sweet-tart candy with blackberry, raspberry, and strawberry flavors. If the body was I little more solid rather than powdery, or something like WF Sour Ball Candy could give it kind of a candy shell and turn up the tartness a bit, it could be a good start to a wild berry skittles vape. Unless I’m not the only one who gets a weird soapy off note from it. 2% was a little soapy and didn't seem like overflavoring was the culprit.

VT Boysenberry A very different take on Boysenberry. Brighter, more candied. It sort of tastes like a blue raspberry, except that blue raspberry is a candy flavor not found in nature and this kind of tastes like it could be. I know some people have tried to create blue raspberries by mixing raspberry and candy peach flavors together, this kind of tastes like one of those attempts, trying to bend a natural raspberry into blue raspberry. It’s full-bodied flavor, a bit tart, very sweet and syrupy, but more candy than authentic, jammy or cooked. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this to lend some it’s sweetness, slight tartness, and blue raspberry-ish flavor to another. Tried at 1% and 4%. Much less flavor at 1% but not much difference in the flavor.

TFA Boysenberry It’s one of TFA’s ridiculously strong concentrates like their Blackberry and their Huckleberry flavors. If you try every TFA flavor for the first time at 5%, you’re gonna have a bad time with this one. It’s got the tartness that’s missing from FW but it’s also oddly warm and a bit floral. There’s a lot going on in here, it’s a very deep and busy sort of flavor, but it mostly tastes like blackberry mixed wild strawberry. I’m not getting any of the raspberry-like qualities that other boysenberry flavors have, but it definitely has some of the qualities of more tart strawberry maybe underripe strawberry underneath some of the more blackberry-like top notes. It’s more of a natural fresh berry than the candy or jammy varieties. It is sweet but it’s not as sweet as some of the others. While I can definitely see this being useable, it’s going to a difficult flavor to work with, just like TFA Blackberry and TFA Huckleberry. Uncomfortably perfumy and a bit harsh at 1%, but that's ok because there's plenty of flavor here at just 0.25%.

I don’t have their Boysenberry Deluxe, but I hear it's really good and much easier to work with while also being more of a fresh berry than the usual sort of "mixed berry jam" take on boysenberries.

PUR Boysenberry Preserves At 6%, sweet berry that tastes a lot like blueberry pie filling mixed with some brighter raspberry jam, very purple-tasting. Thick, almost gummy texture. Tastes very cooked down, like preserves or jam, the little bit of raspberry tartness in there is very subdued.

I don’t have their regular Boysenberry, just the Preserves, but I hear that one is pretty sweet and jammy too.

FLV Boysenberry Is this the “best” boysenberry? It’s certainly the most popular and has been used to create some amazing things, so I’m going to go with yes. It’s a sweet, dark, jammy berry with some of the tartness of raspberry but none of the sharp brightness of raspberry not the more aggressive floral tones that a lot of blackberry & raspberry flavors have. Dark, but not as deep and dark as a blackberry. It’s a very interesting ingredient in that it isn’t a very strong, punch you in the face flavor as a standalone, but even a small amount of it really makes a difference in a mix. Just a touch of sweet-tart at 0.25%, fuller berry flavor at 1%, maximum jammy sweetness at 3%. Starts to get just little floral/medicine at 4%.

JF makes a lot of great flavors, this is not one of them. Can't even think of any reason why you might want to use this for anything.

INW Pineapple 4% a authentic canned pineapple flavor.

INW Raspberry 2% artificial raspberry candy.

INW Shisha Strawberry 5% tastes like the strawberry they use in Norwegian ice cream.

TPA Caramel Cappuccino 4 drops/10ml tastes just like a cappuccino ice coffee from the store..

INW Biscuit 1% dry oat crackers.

I never go over 0.75% on that flavor, it's just too floral and strong. I see good results after 5 days or so. Over 1% might take a couple weeks I guess. Over 2%, I wouldn't dare take it that high

Right now I am trying FA Pazzo Jack. It's very tasty - like those strawberry hard candies that have the filling inside and are wrapped to look like a strawberry. I'm trying it at 4% and it's a bit weak. Maybe 6-8% would be better. I'm surprised that I like this one so much because I don't usually like strawberry much as a primary vape flavor but I love these candies. It's a pretty accurate representation.

Also trying FA Pazzo King mixed at 4% as well. It's supposed to be a black currant jelly candy and it's good (though also weak at 4%.) Not sure yet but it may get a little bit medicine-y at a higher percentage (or not, haven't tried yet.)

Pazzo Jack is the better of the two in my opinion but both are pretty good as single-flavors. Better than alot of the single-fruit-flavor swill that I used to buy before I started mixing, anyway. There are other FA Pazzo flavors but these two looked most appealing to me.

Grape flavors can rejoice! Inawera Purple Blush is a pretty darn good grape flavor. It's got a lot going on. It's thst dark purple grape flavor but underneath it all is some complexity. Sometimes I get mixed berry jammy qualities. Sometimes my mind wanders off to Welches but in a good way. Other times I pick up on wine notes. It's not one of those flat or thin grape flavors. It's only been a day since mixing so I'll see how it changes. I want to mix this with peanutbutter right now.

WF-Pistachio Cream 3%- Cohesive pistachio cream needs a 1-2 week steep to get poppin

OOO-Firni Pudding 3%- Firni Pudding is a type of Indian rice pudding i don't get that from this but i do get a caramel milkshake/cream w/ light nutty note

OOO-Rice Milk 3%- This one ended up being surprising when i tested of the SNV it tasted like milk that was mixed with raw rice and strained after ... After a steep this tastes like milk that was boiled w/ rice lightly sweetened and strained. The longer i steep it the taste is changing asif the rice is being boiled in the milk longer before it is strained. My fav out of this weeks tests def needs a 1-2week steep.

NicRiv-Arnold Palmer 3%- If you want a genuine powdered arnold palmer go for this would pair well with FA-Black Tea & La-Lemonade

WF-African Horned Cucumber 3%- This one was interesting tasted like a mix of kiwi, green apple and banana

I tried a 10% mix of TFA lemon because I had it on hand and absolutely love lemon flavors. Mistake.

Tried 5% as well. Not as bad but not good either.

Lesson learned. Gonna try and keep going down in percentages and see what happens.

I like lemon too. I mess with drops (well a percent to start with, usually up starting at 2%) on 10 ml. You are dang brave.

1 points

by FlamingSnowballover 6 years ago

That’s one way to put it. Would’ve fooled me into thinking my coil was burnt if I hadn’t just rewicked it. Definitely stay under 2% with it. Gonna be making a small batch of 1% today and see if it’s any better.

1 points

by RancerDSover 6 years ago

I'm pretty wary of lemon, since it seems as if making it sour means more citric acid. And yeah, if the flavor is weak before they've added that sourness, it can get over-powered easily... especially adding other things like sweeteners. So using higher percentages seem logical, but at the expense of burning out the taste buds. :/ I guess that's okay if it's only going to be a 1-2 hour vape?

I finally got around to the first tests of my Tasty Puff samples:

I mixed all of them at 2% in max VG to 15mL.

TP Awesome Apple - A red apple with some peel, like taking a bite of a ripe apple. Good true flavor, with potential for mixing. Could go to 3-5% in a heavy mix.

TP Blueberry Thrill - Blueberry sweet tart type of candy. 2% may be too high for this one, potential for a drink mix.

TP Chronic Hypnotic - It tastes good, just don't know how I'd describe it. More investigation required.

TP Convicted Melon - Medium ripe watermelon with a hint of green rind.

TP Cotton Mouth Candy - Cotton Candy base, without a specific flavor of it's own. Could be a decent sweetener as well.

TP Powerplant Pomegranate - Pomegranate with some floral edges, which could steep out. May be one of the better pomegranate's I've tasted without a steep. I want to try it at 1% and 3%, just to see if the floral bits aren't from over flavoring/under flavoring.

First impressions of Tasty Puff:

a) Deceiving concentrations, almost all of the notes I have read for them were at 5+% and I'm not sure any of the flavors I tested would be good above 4% standalone.

b) Like someone said before, they put all of the flavors in. Their milk tasted like the whole cow (I haven't tried it). It's kind of the same for their fruit, except, obviously, more pleasant.

c) They have potential, even if it's using some of their flavors in abstract ways. Some or maybe a lot of their flavors seem to be designed as standalone flavors, rather than individual ingredients.

by RancerDSover 6 years ago

Never heard of them before your post. Thanks for the head's up on those that you'd tried. Maybe their strategy is to avoid competing against basic flavors. Or maybe they've just missed the mark and still found it usable albeit rather odd.

The apple sounds good... though I'd probably have to add sweetener. And assuming the ripe taste isn't overly so.

1 points

by mixnjuiceover 6 years ago

It's not quite sweet, so sweetener definitely compliments the apple.

Nic Riv Pacific Cooler - This is absolutely delicious. Very versatile flavor. Bought a big bottle.

Nic Riv Rainbow Sherbet - It's spot on. Bought a big bottle.

Nic Riv Watermelon - IMO it's better than Purilum's watermelon. Bought a big bottle.

No problem. Some of them are hit or miss just like any company. They dropped alot of flavors that didn't sell that well but were still pretty good which kind of is a bummer. Their newest release under the nic river brand is ridiculously good.

Rainbow Sherbet needs to be paired with a vanilla ice cream and your favorite ice cream combo.

Yes, I have and was disappointed overall.

INW Wundle Waffle was probably the worst. Tasted like nutty barf.

INW Pair of Pears wasn't bad. It's similar to WF Ripe Pear but more earthy. It's a fairly authentic pear, not too musty not too much of the inner part. Good balance

INW Mango and Tango - good, mango with pineapple and supposedly guava. I don't know that I necessarily pick out the guava note but I definitely taste the mango and pineapple. Works well with other fruits as well

INW Lime Monster - gross lime cookie

INW Forest Ice Cream - I honestly don't remember much about this other than it smells better than it tastes. It was disappointing as it smelled really good but it wasn't "bad"

INW Cake Emperor - nice cake with fruit notes and cream. It's supposed to have a cheesecake element but I honestly don't get much of that. It's good though.

1 points

by RancerDSover 6 years ago

It's kind of crazy that something which can smell unbelievably good is only "meh" when you vape it. Can't help but wonder if there is something simple that rectifies the problem.

1 points

by ID10-Tabout 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

Hey Rin! I know it's three months but if can recall, would you say Cake Emperor is more of a pound cake, butter cake, sponge cake, or fluffy cake?

by RinVapesabout 6 years agoMixin Vixen

I had to go back and watch. I said a yellow cake with a little butter. But bear in mind that I was still having tasting issues. SO I don't know. I haven't tried or used it since. It's not a flavor I'd go out of my way for.

TPA Cherry at 5%

Tastes very much like cough medicine on its own, not something I'll be using as a single flavor. I mixed a bit into an existing batch of TPA Strawberry Ripe, TPA Bavarian Cream, and TPA Vanilla Swirl and I wouldn't say I'm hating the combination.

1 points

by TheBorgerKingover 6 years ago

The only single flavour I've done this time around is Reka Sparkling Lemonade.

Mixed it at 4%, made 60ml (gamble, I know, but I like to make sure. If i bin it, i know it's no good and I'll remember binning 60mls). Weirdly its already yellow like a healthy midday piss.

Its pleasant. Tastes a bit like FA Lemon Sicily with koolada and sweetener included. It has potential alongside things: perhaps more easily slotted into a pink/berry lemonade over a straight lemonade profile. It is a bit rindy, might benefit with a longer steep as I'm judging it off of 3 days.

I was going to throw it in with some Cap lemon lime. Had to bail as my bottle was empty. But I think lime would be a good addition, plenty of strength to go over the top of this flavour, presumably designed as a one shot.

Was just thinking about how some teas have lemon or orange rind. So it might work for an Arnold Palmer with a rind-y aspect?

You could be right there in all fairness. Never had one. Had to look up that profile!

The only tea I've used is FA Black Tea. I'd paired it with TPA Sweet Raspberry and even threw in a little Juicy Peach... tasted pretty good. But after a few weeks, started vaping it again and got a soapy, mildly floral taste.
