Do some flavorings lose potency over time?
submitted over 6 years ago by AspiringArtist13

I mixed up some 1-2-3 Ocean Water . At first I tried it in my juggerknot mini and citadel which worked fine. Then after a few weeks most of the taste is gone. Am I missing something? Cheers.

yes, some do. Sometimes one flavor fades and the others linger. Sometimes the flavors will change in a not so pleasant way quickly (here's lookin at you Abuela). Some even stay solid after a few months (oh how i adore you Mr. Brigade and Mrs. Gold).

some will fade almost immediately. I think flv lime wedge is reportedly like that. lemon sicily as well. if you know it fades, never make more than you can vape in a week.

Lemon Sicily is at least good for a few days. FLV Lime Wedge and WF Grenadine are two that nearly vanish almost overnight.

What is the Mrs. Gold you’re referring two?

Give Classic Gold a go as well. Both of these recipes are pretty good. I always add Tobacco DNB and Tobacco Absolute Virginia to both at about 1%

Sorry that recipe dropped off on you. I’ve never had any last me a couple of weeks to see whether it’s unstable for me, but a lot of citrus flavors are prone to fading.

To combat this you can do what I call staged mixing. If you have a flavor that fades wait until the flavors that need to steep have steeped and then add it. If you are making a big batch leave the ones that fade out and add them when you decant into smaller bottles. As for juices that fade overall make small batches so its not an issue. Large batches of these just don't work.

Citrus and some fruits tend to fade. Anything with alcohol in the base can fade... it really depends. But short answer, yes.. they do but it varies as to when.

>Anything with alcohol in the base can fade

i disagree with this. I use ethanol when making NET extracts and have no issue with flavor fading even up to a year or more.

I said can, not will.
