#Hot Seat Sunday
So, this is an idea for a weekly thread… Basically it's a AMA thread with a twist – the 'victim' gets to name who is next up in the rotation. It was started by u/juthinc in This Thread Here and it was continued by u/isuamadog in here , and continued here by u/humanpuck.
There are some rules:
-
try picking someone who hasn't gone yet
-
it has to be someone who actively posts here
-
no dead people (ie: notcharlesmanson isn't eligible)
-
preferably a name that people recognize 'Regular poster' means someone who is a) alive and b) has posted in the last three months
-
Complete the FAQ before posting
-
if you do the hot seat, you can add up to three names to the list of people who are potential victims. Now, in the interest of saving some likely to be asked questions from coming up multiple times, I've included a FAQ below. With that said (and remembering to not repeat questions from the FAQ) fire away. Oh, and next time, it's someone's turn and you will be pm'ed regarding your participation. (possibly /u/ediblemalfunction/u/matthewkokanda /u/philosaphucker/u/eyemakepizza /u/chemicalburnvictim /u/ID10-t/u/AlfredPudding/u/Foment_Life u/modivin u/Up2MyHead u/odiedoodah u/Apexified u/mlNikon u/kindground).

#FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
-
How'd you get your handle? Well, for starters, I make pizza. Honesty though, I was lurking around reddit at work and something made me want to comment so I made an account. I’m not that creative so I put the first thing that came to mind. I apparently thought I was punny so I spelled I eye. Folks, leave the puns to the pros…(u/ID10-T)
-
How long have you been mixing for? I took the dive in November of 2017 and haven’t looked back.
-
MTL or DTL? DTL, I just cant do MTL. My favorite thing about smoking was the throat hit (yes, I’m a sick fuck) and the feeling of full lungs (yes, I’m weird) and I just cant quite get that from MTL.
-
Current flavor or profile obsession? Motherfucking Ice Cream. I don’t know what the hell it is. I’ve got 4 of my own Ice Cream Recipes, 1 collab recipe (shout out to Alfred and mlNikon!), and 2 more I’m currently working on. I can’t get enough, I think I have a problem.
-
Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected? Secret Weapon? I honestly don’t know if I have one that I was really disappointed by, but TFA Grape Candy sucks ass so there’s that. Secret Weapon? FE Lemon. It’s so damn versatile and damn tasty.
-
Mixing Milestone? Well there’s a few. Summer Drink was the first recipe that was actually good. I got a ton of positive feedback and that was a great confidence booster. The Ice Cream Trinity is probably my biggest milestone though. (Even though I have a slight resentment for that recipe.)
-
Recipes you admire/love? Cabin, 007 cola, Yogi Tropic, Blue Eyes White Dragon, Lime Ar Why Fore (and it’s cheesecake twin), CustardNow.
-
White whale? Convicted Melons by Blue Dot Vapors. That is the only juice I will still buy and I haven’t been able to clone. BDV if you’re reading this, lemme get dat recipe ;).
-
How would you describe your mixing style? Ever hear that saying throw shit at the wall and see what sticks? Yeah? Well, that’s my mixing style. From there, I make tweaks and changes until I get what I was searching for. I have also fallen in love with collabs and community developed recipes. It’s an incredibly fun way Shameless plug: http://alltheflavors.com/users/diy_discord.
-
Advice for new mixers? Read read read. This sub has so much fucking incredible information packed into it. Don’t let it go to waste. Read the sidebar, read the flavor reviews. Most importantly. Have fun with it. Don’t get discouraged, like everything it takes time. Lastly join the discord!
-
Favorite Mixer (and why)? Oh god. Can’t pick just one.
-
Foment_Life because he and I started mixing at the same time and he was an invaluable source of feedback and information. Blue Eyes White Dragon was the first DIY mix I tried that made me realize how much better DIY is compared to shitty b&m juice.
-
Isuamadog because he’s always willing to try anything. I’ve come up with a few recipes with him and the gang using flavors he despises but he uses them anyway! He’s also one of the greatest people in this community, always welcoming to new people and doing his best to help them out however he can.
-
Alfred Pudding. Do I need to say why? The man is fucking gifted. He’s a wealth of knowledge and is always sharing that knowledge with others. And of course his recipes are incredibly good.
-
EdibleMalfunction- I’ll keep this one short, just the way he likes it. This man knows his shit. The original game changer short steep custard. So damn good.
There are many, many more and I can go on forever, but I don’t want to make this any more of a giant wall of text than it is.
Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
I’m going to make another recipe named after you, your full name this time, Eyemakepizza, not another Eyemake X Ice Cream. What should the flavor profile be or which ingredient(s) must it include?
man, that's a tough one. I love coconut. I love pineapple. I love ice cr...no, no. Custard!

Taking away all limes and creams, what profile do you gravitate towards first?
Fruits for sure. But more, specifically I love apple and peach. As I’ve gotten better with mixing I’ve really taken a liking to dessert/bakeries too. It’s a deep rabbit hole.
Any Apple bases you would be willing to share?
Where did you first get the idea that you could mix your own juice?
Let's talk sauce.
San marzano tomato. Nice, or necessary?
Adding sugar? OK, or blasphemy?
Also... Calzone calzone calzone
Ehh I wouldn’t say necessary.
Sugar for sure. You need something to cut down the acidity of the tomatoes!
>Also...calzone calzone calzone
Yes. The answer is always yes.
What happened to that pizza flavored juice you wanted to make?
It’s still happening!
Our very own u/IDT-10 is a stud and is sending me some RF Baked Bread (VG) which is the spark I need to get back on that horse.
Not all heros wear capes.
what's the difference in your experience between thinking through a recipe and how it limits you and free styling and seeing what comes of it? is there a benefit to doing both?
if you were to write an article for the reddit, what would the topic be? and: why havent you (aside from hating writing)?
I haven’t written one because you, u/Foment_Life, and u/Apexified kill it on that front.
But if I were too do one, I would really like to make a comprehensive First Order Guide. A set of versatile flavors that can make a lot of recipes (well regarded obviously) that kind of stuff. Perhaps do one for each profile (fruits, bacco, dessert etc).
...if you were stranded on an island alone, what ONE sex toy would you take and why??
have you ever picked up a ciggie off the floor and smoked it? More importantly, do you plan to ever stop vaping?
Off the floor, no. But when I first starting smoking cigarettes, me and my friend would always take steal them from his mom because she's take like 3 or 4 drags and put them out.
edit: I have no intentions of quitting vaping.
That's how 12 y/o me started smoking. My dad would smoke about 1\3 of a cigarette and then flick it out into our yard then go back inside the house. I'd take it behind the garage and smoke the rest.
how is mixing collaboratively different (better and worse) than mixing solo?
There's for sure pros and cons to both.
What I like about collaborating is the fact that everyone has a strong suite when it comes to mixing.
So when everyone brings their strong suite to the recipe, you're more than likely to end up with a damn fine recipe. At the same time, when you make that first attempt and it comes time to critique, you instantly have multiple sources of feedback. So being a part of the critique and change process even if you're not directly doing it yourself, allows you to sharpen your skills with a not so familiar profile or set of flavors.
Now, on the flip side, when you're collaborating you have multiple people. You can run into the issue of wanting to take the recipe in two different directions. By no means is that a bad thing, but you kinda need to be accepting of the fact that maybe your idea may be the accepted one. Developing a "mixing relationship" is a somewhat important thing to make it work well.
Solo mixing on the other hand, it's all up to you. As long as you have the skill set you will get exactly what you want to out of your recipe. However, you will have to work towards developing the skill set to get there. You won't have the second (or multiple) instant sources of feedback so it'll be up to you to make adjustments.
What did the development process look like for the ice cream trinity?
Inspiration or existing knowledge that led to using those particular concentrates?
How many iterations before it was where you wanted it?
It was a joke of a development process and I'm ashamed of it.
It went something like this.
Alfred: I wanna mix something.
Pizza: Me too.
Alfred: What do you want to make?
Pizza: I want to make an ice cream stone.
Alfred: What percentages you thinking?
Pizza: Throws down percentages.
Alfred: This is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.
It's a bastard child of a recipe.
I do so love it when a plan comes together.
And for anyone taking notes... Creativity can take many forms. Hours spent researching vs. A bolt of inspiration, each are as valid as the other. My take away is that together we can achieve more than separately. Sometimes just having someone to support and confirm your findings is all it takes for greatness.
Do you think there's some correlation to misanthopy and mixing? Introversion? Some element of weirdness?
That's a very interesting question, most people here seem at least a little weird.
We might have to take a poll. I don’t like people and I like mixing. But that’s too small of a sample size.
I’d rather hang out with my flavors than a human...is that bad?
What should the future DIY store, you, me, Alfred and dawg will open be called?
tell the truth: how often do you rebuild your coils?
How often do you mix other people's recipes? What attracts you the most to one?
Mixing other peoples recipes was always something i didn’t do a lot and I felt real shitty about it.
I decided to change that a little while back and I now make it a point to mix at least 2 other's recipes a month.
There’s a lot of talented folks out here both new and veteran mixers with fantastic recipes, at the very least I’m only hurting myself by not getting to enjoy their mixes...so why not??
Ok let's be real about YOU.
Do you have a good recipe for a chicago-styled pizza?
When it comes to pizza making; Temperatur of the water for your dough?
Is that a factor to consider? I used to make a lot but I don't think I ever thought of the water temp having an effect other than slightly warm to get the yeast started.
Well I heard some years ago, that in Italy many of the pizza bakers use ice cold water for the dough. So I figured, I wanted u/eyemakepizza's opinion on that.
Water temp will most certainly factor into the dough.
If its too cold it can kill the yeast and your dough won't rise. It will also make the dough very hard and tough.
If the water is too hot your dough will be a soupy mess. However, there are ways to counter the warm water if that happens on accident. Normally you seal your dough in an air tight container so it doesn't dry out. But, if the dough is too warm and soupy, you can place the dough in an open so that the cold air hits it faster, and it will harden it up to a usable consistency. But, leave it too long, it'll turn into a crusty mess so be careful!
Long story short, the ideal temp for the water is lukewarm - cool.
Apart from your white whale, how long do you spend perfecting a recipe?
for a beginner the only additives ive played with is sweetner, ws23 and E.M. any other youd suggest at beginner level
How often do you find yourself hate vaping something? When you're in mixing mode and trying different things are you mixing tons of little testers?
why did you not name your mix "summer wind"? what's wrong with you?
Let's be honest...are you up yet? How often do you mix? Do you think you'll ever get sick of it?
What are your normal mixing hours? How do find the time to mix, make pizza and do family/puppy stuff?
I have no form of schedule what so ever. Sometimes I’ll go 3 or 4 days without mixing something. Sometimes I’ll mix 5 things in one night. Usually if I wanna make something I’ll grab the flavors, my scale and shit and bring it to whatever room the family is in and go to town.
If you had to pick a top list of fruits, not essentials just really good ones that you like for any reason at all, what would they be? (bcf in mind!)
Hm, lets see top 10 in no order...

If you got arrested for something, what would it be?
No but for real. probably something related to driving. I’m not a bad driver by any means, nor am I reckless. Sometimes I just like to drive fast.
I'm generally the most mellow person in the world. Never lose my temper, never really get angry, but get me behind the wheel and I turn into psychopath. Yelling at idiots to get off their phone, beeping at people that sit at a green light, yelling for people to use their blinkers(they're there for a reason), I need an outlet.
