Week VII
Was pretty excited this week after receiving an order. Had purchased a few things from Nicotine River while they had the 25% off sale. Some of it is great stuff!! Is there is anyone else out there that had gotten excited at any of their new discoveries? Let us know what flavors you had mixed up and tried. You don't have to go into great detail or give any kind of rating other than if you liked it, found it lacking or thought it to be horrid, etc.. As to the usefulness of this weekly post, I personally have benefited from some of the concentrates that others had mentioned. There is a Wiki link with all the links to the single flavor, should anyone else wish to go back and read through all of the great responses: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/index/single_flavors

Now to the new discoveries that were tested:

PUR Sweet Tobacco - Great!
Totally addicting stuff, better than RY4 for me. Was so excited about this, decided to do a review of it: https://redd.it/bdxff3 Turns out someone had done a review of it two years ago; so including that link here as well: https://redd.it/5q9dlq

TFA Vanilla Bean Gelato - Good
I didn't realize I ordered this. For some reason, when trying to order TFA's Vanilla Custard, ended up with the gelato in my cart and finishing the online purchase. Glad I did! Am thinking this might work better in a banana pudding recipe than the custard or vanilla swirl. Might add it to the above mentioned for a custom RY4. It's certainly good on it's own. Gotta warn you though, smelling the concentrate's aroma before vaping will bury the taste.

PUR Country Apple - Decent
Originally named "Fuji"? It tastes fine, not overpowering but not outstanding either. It's a good purchase for me. My taste buds may be a little apple-blind. But I can tell it's not a red or green apple. May try to use in conjunction with TFA Apple Pie to see if it can make it's fruity taste more prominent.

THANKS to those that had recommended TFA's RY4 Double and Banana. I also picked up their Acai and FlavourArt's Forest Fruit as they seemed to get mentioned more than once. :) Have yet to try those two, but looking forward to them!!
I went though 18 donut-type flavors this week.
Easily the Best: WF Glazed Donut. Keep it under 3% to prevent it from tasting too overcooked and you've pretty much got yourself a plain glazed donut in a bottle. I will make the best possible Krispy Kreme plain glazed donut vape out of this, just give me a couple of weeks to finish dialing in the %s.
First Runner up: SA Beignet. Kind of tastes like a cross between a donut and a funnel cake.
Good, useful, or at least interesting: FLV Sweet Dough (some of this is going in the Krispy Creme for sure, but it might have to be even lower than 0.25%, extremely potent use with caution), FA Zeppola (y gotta have that damn spice note in there), CAP Chocolate Glazed Donut (waxy and chalk), FLV Maple Bar (nice maple glaze), WF Deep Fried Pastry Dough (spiced fried pie shell!), WF Picarones (interesting).
Bad, difficult, useless or only potentially useful: DIY Flavor Shack Donut (weak malty vanilla), FLV Fried Dough (greasy yeast), FA Wow (nondescript fruit, nondescript bakery, thin and dry), FA Joy (beery yeast with a little grease and powdered sugar), TFA Frosted Donut (spicy vanilla cake frosting), OoO Glazed Donut (lightly toasted powdered sugar sandwich).
Terrible: FA Chocolate Glazed Donut (chocolate glazed butter puke), CAP Glazed Donut (kindergarten nostalgia), FLV Donut (brown bread with exxxxxxtra yeast), Chemnovatic Donut (regurgitated butterscotch candy sandwich).
edit: too not to
Damn bro i donut think you tried enough donut flavors
On the hole, I think covered them well
Well fck me flummoxed. I ordered in SA Beignet from the other side of the planet. In reasonable bulk too. I can say with complete honesty that this flavour disappointed me like no other flavour ever has. It tasted nothing like a donut, or a pastry, or any baked good really. Some weird oily smelly stuff. Can't remember if it came from rainbowvapes or chefs. One of the 2. I just don't get it. Maybe what they sent me (in 5 bottles) wasn't actually SA Beignet... who knows. Just mega supreme disappointment in a dripper.
Have you ever had a fried-type flavor that you enjoyed?
No but I haven't tried many. What got me though, was how it didn't taste even remotely like fried anything - or dough anything. I mean I hate Capella's donut but I'd still rate it a 3/10. SA Beignet would get a zero. I mean, it actually pissed me off.
But it's all moot now. WF Glazed Donut has hit our shores! Will be picking that up next order.
Purilam Caramel coffee with sweet milk -
Undeniably coffee. Smells sweet like Starbucks but has a bitterness like coffee with no sugar. Kind of harsh on the throat, 5/10 maybe? Tame the harshness and sweeten it up and it's a winner for coffee lovers I think. I'm working on it.
Purilam Cappuccino -
Very similar to the above flavor but much weaker.
Capella Banana Split -
Straight up banana Runt's candy. You know, the ones that were always a pain in the ass to bite into because they're shaped like little bananas. The artificial banana flavor is potent but settles down after a few days. It remains artificial tasting.
Interesting take on the first one. What percentage did you use? Mine is at 5%.

I am getting sweetness out of it. But I drink black coffee without sugar all day, so maybe picking up on something very faint. And also, not getting the throat hit either. My mix is 65/35 VG, so maybe your mix has more PG?
It was 5% at 70/30 vg/pg. I also made a second batch without nicotine just to be sure. No sweetener or anything, both batches were just flavoring. I don't drink black coffee and also haven't been off retail juice very long. If you drink it all day your palette will probably be much different than mine. I've played with it since but still get some harshness and the bitterness. 5/10 throat is shake n vape but I think it settles down to around 4 after a few days. It's definitely not the smoothest but it's the most accurate coffee flavor I've tried so far. I just gotta get it sweet and fluffy somehow.
TFA Orange Mandarin @ 5%
Tastes like powdery-orange children's chewable aspirins. That powerdery-orange medicine taste is right up front on the inhale, then you get some of the sweet orange body which isn't powdery. The powdery note is also similar to PEZ candies. Throat hit 7/10. This one is making me cough a bit. At 5% there is some sweet body starting to appear. There is lingering sweetness and juicyness on the back end but it's overshadowed by the dry throaty powder inhale.
Orange-wise it is a soft-mandarin flavor. Like a very watered down orange juice from the fountain machine at McDonald's. Not as tang-like as CAP Sweet Tangerine. Not syrupy like the canned mandarins in syrup. Maybe if those were freeze-dried into a powder. I don't see this ever being used as a primary orange. It strikes me as a "delicate" flavor that's also imperfect and is going to need help with both body and flavor. Sweetness-wise it seems to be sweeter than CAP Sweet Tangerine but this is subjective. I like the flavor but it's going to be hard to use it anywhere.
I'm getting TFA RY4 Double today. I ordered from Wizlabs and two days later they have a sale.. Lol I think we've all been there. I also inquired in the Q&A thread about Flavorah Fruits. ID10T posted a bunch of good suggestions. I ordered-
.
-
Cranberry
-
Apple Filling
-
Sour Apple
-
Jammy Berry
-
Guanabanana
.
I also ordered TFA French Vanilla deluxe, (I've heard good things about it here). Also I'm finally getting Rick's Sugar Daddy to try out. I'm pumped about my order showing up today! I'll get them tested as soon as I have time and post my thoughts.
Looking forward to reading about these. :) I have none of them.
Ok I'm vaping Flavorah Jammy Berry today. I made 10ML and added 4 drops of it (.8%). The flavor is plenty noticible at this percentage. The berry aspect is really nice. I'm getting a decent amount of tartness that sort of lingers on my tongue. But it's all good, I don't mind. I'm sure some better tasters than me can describe what berries they taste. I think whatever it is is pretty balanced. Sometimes I imagine it strawberry forward, other times not. All I know is it tastes really good, it's plenty potent, & the balance of sweetness to tartness is really nice. I'm getting a little bit of "jammy" as well. It's one of the better berry blends I've tried, and I've sampled a lot of them. It's worth the price of admission. It might be worth noting, I mixed this yesterday
Flavorah Guanabana is a unique flavoring. I've never heard of this fruit before I seen this flavor. I have no idea how to describe this flavoring but I'll try. It's a bit fruity, but tropical. It's not too sweet and has a good bit of tartness on the exhale. I want to say its like banana/pineapple together but I might have read that beforehand.. I like it anyways. I heard a saying on Rocknrolla that's fitting, "It's tasty and exotic".
I agree it's very hard to describe. I don't find it that tasty but for one, I like the sweet stuff, and two, I think I had a false idea of how I thought it would taste and it was not. I've never had the real thing so I don't know why I thought I knew what it would taste like. Just not my cup of tea.
I get cooked apple from PUR Country Apple. Normally you associate cooked apple with cinnamon, but there's no cinnamon here. Which makes it kind of odd, but potentially useful. It does need another apple to make it less meh. It's like the goop part of apple pie filling, without the apple chunks, cinnamon, or level of sweetness.
Nic Riv- Arnold Palmer
% Tested-3.0%
Off SNV-Tastes Like instant lemon ice tea mix. I would mix at suggested NicRiv % between 2.0-4.0% this definitely tastes like powdered mix and not actual brewed iced tea. getting a slight citrus with the powdered tea mix on the exhale i could mix the up solo with a dash of ws-23 or use FA-Black Tea to accent this to get more of the tea aspect or add LA-Lemonade to give it more of a lemonade essence or both to make a killer Arnold Palmer

1 week steep : not much of a flavor change no benefit observed
NicRic Maui SFT
% Tested: 3%
SNV: Tropical fruity mix with prominent white grape kind of notes on the top with a citrus undertone i really cant place the fruit on top but white grape would be the closest i can call to it definitely a tropical fruit. Delicious on its own but somewhat lacking in the citrus area the citrus undertone is very light imo.

1 Week Steep: no flavor changes or other changes observed
WF-HIbiscus Candy
% Tested : 1.5%
idk this flavor is very funky im not a fan of this flavor it has a wierd grassy/muddy taste to it almost like a seaweed taste to it

1 week steep: Still hate it
It doesn't sound appetizing as candies go. :) Am thinking that hibiscus is used for making teas. Even then, seaweed tea doesn't sound good... though grassy/muddy does sometimes come out of really earthy teas.
Nic River boysenberry pie: tested @ 2\4\6 on Ulton citadel clone w\single core kanthal Clapton @.35ohms
Dry pie crust w\fairly flat boysenberry notes. As with the other new NR flavors 2 is very weak & faint, feel 3 should be the starting point. As you go up in % it stays fairly balanced at 4 & the crust starts to get kind of dry\floury at 6 but nothing that can't be addressed.
Added 2% flv boysenberry & 1% fa apple pie along with 5% nr boysenberry pie. Definitely would be better with a little golden butter or something to lessen the dryness of the crust. Would mix 3-6% & it stays pretty balanced between crust & fruit, but lower & the crust is less noticable.
Have quite a few of these at various steep times. Will do some actual detailed reviews as they reach the 2-3 week mark. So far nothing terrible but nothing groundbreaking from them. Seem to be roughly your general tpa-ish strength but a bit higher quality.

All 2-3 drops per 5ml, so between 0,5- 0,75%.

Inawera Purple Blush : Should be a blueberry plum cake, but they seem to have forgotten to add the cake. It is a dark forest berry with something mysteriously floral (the plum?), but not in an offensive way.

Inawera Woodruff: Very very interesting, floral sweet. Got to smell the woodruff in my garden when it is truely blooming in the coming days. But I imagine it is a lot like this. It is a very different vape from everything else, not something to vape for a long time. Mostly just really interesting and different. No clue what to do with it.

Flavorah Sugar Orchid: I imagine this is what it would taste like to vape one of those vanilla sugar bags used for baking. Very vanilla, very sweet, very warm. And also recognizing that cherry on the exhale concrete river talked about in his review. But mostly vanilla sugar.
After nearing the end of 2mls I added to my tank, it is becoming a lot more candy like, a lot more like the candy shell the description says is in it.
In your opinion do you think i can use the sa beignet or any of these as sweet vermicelli noodles for a indian desert mix im workin on
TFA Banana - Decent
I'm thinking it's good enough to use in a specific recipe. It is a decent banana taste overall. Getting a sense of it being "cooked" and the slightest hint of cardboard. The 20 mL test batch later had Banana Cream and DX Bavarian Cream added, as well as slightly upping it from 5%. Throw in 2 drops of CAP Super Sweet and it's definitely a good vape. This was an overnight steep at least, but additional shaking and a couple more nights won't hurt.
