Help with ice cream/creamy fruit recipe
submitted over 6 years ago by -mindscapes-

Hi guys, lately i have been vaping a lot of bakery and nutty recipes, and so i was thinking about making something creamy/fruity for a change.

I'm a new mixer and right now i'm also out of bottles, so in the meantime i thought of posting my idea here so maybe you can tell me if something looks off as far as flavor % goes (as far as subbing i have to work with these because my flavour collection isn't very large).

Here's the idea:

Ice Cream Base

CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 2%
FLV Cream 1%

Fruity Flavor Notes

FA Banana 1.5%
INW Cactus 0.75%
FA Lemon Sicily 0.75%
CAP Lime 1%
INW Shisha Strawberry 2%

Accents

FA Whipped Cream 0.75%

I've checked the pairings in a flavour pairing book i have and in theory it all should work nicely together... Are the percentages balanced or do you think there's something overpowering? I'm not too sure about the ratio of lemon to lime.

What do you think?

Thanks for the help!

I would simplify it and take a few things out.

Cactus I don't think fits (I could be wrong) but the effect of the wetness would potentially make the ice cream base muddled and messy. I can't stand CAP lime so I'd drop that too, but when starting simpler is better.

I'd try.

Fruit:

FA Banana 1.5%

INW Shisha Strawberry 2.5%

Ice Cream:

CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 4% (needed to pump this up)

FLV Cream 1%

Should be a thick strawberry banana ice cream.. then you can start adding accents. Trust citrus will clash with the banana in my opinion but might Grant some brightness to the strawberry.

Up to you. My 2 cents.

I thought cactus was a good idea to complete the banana profile, but i didn't consider it might screw with the ice cream.. Thanks!

Why do you think the lemon will clash tough? I used to make a banana cream with sugar and a dash of lemon and it was delicious... But maybe the ejuice citrusses have something inside that clash?

Honestly the lemon could go either way. I don't think it would clash too much. But a dash will being acidity and brightness in foods, as it does with e juice. Try it!

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll keep it in mind for my next order. At the moment i have only cap to work with tough!

The only suggestion I have is regarding technique.

Presteep the creams, then add the strawberry / fruit to shake & vape a 30/60 ml

Keeps the fruit fresh while coaxing out the depth in the 'base'

If you get an Icecream / milkshake base you are happy with, make 4-8oz+

Then play around with various fruit etc in 10ml testers. 1 drop = 1% at that volume 😁

Thanks, good tip! Yeah i was reading some threads in various forums about steeping different part of the juice separately, will try this! It's more convenient for sure because if you have flavours that don't require a long step, adding them to a prestepped base makes for triying more variations faster i think. Makes sense also from the pov of comparing ejuice making to cooking, where you never throw everything in a pan pot at the same time.

That’s a great idea.

The Best Strawberry Ice Cream is the best I know. Makes some of my friends sick smelling it but damn it’s spot on.

I’m sure you could try different fruits with that concept.

As a new mixer you aren’t going to have a good time trying to create before understanding existing recipes and how the composition works, imo. I say a year of mixing recipes then branch out unless you find your niche.

Yeah i hear you, today i mixed two other recipes from here and elr. That said, i also find satisfaction in trying to make something myself. I already made one other recipe that maybe isn't on par with the best but at least is vapable. Not having enough experience i base my creation process off of others flavor notes, and i think if i use flavors i like i can be at least in the ballpark, even if the recipes doesn't come out perfect to a t.

Thanks for the link to that recipe. It seems the vbic + cream of his base is similar to my idea. I have cap sweet cream. Maybe i can try one version with that and one with the flv and see which comes out better but...as far as how much % of flavor he used, i don't think i can tolerate vbic at 7% if it tastes as strong as it smells!

That 7% is pre steep and it isn’t strong after a few days. This is one of the recipes I make that really needs a steep. But as per instructions a paint mixer and mixing order can make it work as a snv but the sweet spot is a week.

It’s your show. Do what you like I just see a lot of people discouraged early on and following a tested recipe at least gives you ideas and something to vape while you test.

I sub creams pretty liberally given what I have on hand. Haven't had any major malfunctions, other than adding some vanilla or custard to make up for missing up-front notes. Just make sure you can sub 1:1 and not 4:1 or somesuch, otherwise adjust percentages. TFA <=> CAP will be fine as long as avoiding DX.

Cactus

I keep seeing this. What does it do? It's such an odd flavor concept.

Makes juice wet if that makes sense

Here they discuss it a bit more, also the comment from Philosaphucker was the reason i thought it might be an interesting addition here seing as he use it with banana and banana cream.

Banana is a difficult flavor for me. I’ve never made a good juice with it. That’s just me though. I’d love to know how yours comes out.

I have a big bottle of TFA Banana Cream.

Early recipe tests were not great until I used CAP Custard and a dash CAP Sugar Cookie and FA Almond. FA Vienna Cream really works well with both halves of the profile. FA Fresh Cream may lift a bit too.

I rarely use cap vanilla bean ice cream but try it maybe 2.5% with fw hazelnut 0.5% and some vanilla custard around 1%.
