Hot Seat Sunday
So, this is an idea for a weekly thread… Basically it's a AMA thread with a twist – the 'victim' gets to name who is next up in the rotation. It was started by u/juthinc in This Thread Here and it was continued by u/isuamadog in here. I almost forgot about this, thankfully I was reminded on the DIY_eJuice discord!
There are some rules:
- try picking someone who hasn't gone yet
- it has to be someone who actively posts here
- no dead people (ie: notcharlesmanson isn't eligible)
- preferably a name that people recognize 'Regular poster' means someone who is a) alive and b) has posted in the last three months
- Complete the FAQ before posting
- if you do the hotseat, you can add up to three names to the list of people who are potential victims.
Now, in the interest of saving some likely to be asked questions from coming up multiple times, I've included a FAQ below. With that said (and remembering to not repeat questions from the FAQ) fire away.
Oh, and next time, it's someone's turn and you will be pm'ed regarding your participation. (possibly /u/ediblemalfunction/u/matthewkokanda /u/philosaphucker/u/eyemakepizza /u/chemicalburnvictim /u/ID10-t /u/AlfredPudding/u/Foment_Life u/modivin u/Up2MyHead u/odiedoodah). FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
- How'd you get your handle? When I was in college I got to be the human hockey puck in between periods at a hockey game. I got on a giant hockey puck, they ran a bungee cord across center ice, drew me back and flung me across the ice. I scored.
- How long have you been mixing for? Long enough that I should be better at this
- MTL or DTL? DTL, I'm pretty sure I've forgotten how to MTL. Every time I try I end up coughing for 5 minutes. So DTL
- Current flavor or profile obsession? I'm on Indian deserts right now. I'm of Indian descent. Next up though is a Fluffer Nutter.
- Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/nt as expected? Secret Weapon? Most disappointing: WF Dweeb Candy(PUKE) / Least: VT Yoghurt Drink(Fabulous) / Secret Weapon: WF Sour Blue Rasp Candy
- Mixing Milestone? Friday night I was mixing and chatting on the DIY_eJuice discord and I wanted to mix up some Kheer. Hopped in the mixing lab, isuamadog was in there and he asked me what I was thinking. First shot at the profile was a hit. First time I mixed something that didn't really need anything else on the first try.
- Favorite Mixer (and why)? This is tough...I'm going with u/alfredpudding, he's willing to mix up ANYTHING, which is awesome. He can also say Guanabana with a straight face several times in a row.
- Recipes you admire/love? 007 cola, Ice Cream Trinity, Daveberry Trinity, all the Strap-Ons
- White whale? I've been trying to make an Apple Cola that I once tried at the Coke area at Universal Studios. My last attempt made a Chai, I know its weird.
- How would you describe your mixing style? Lately I've been just coming up with profiles that sound good. With summer coming up I wanted to make a tropical yogurt drink so I mixed it up. Shameless plug: http://alltheflavors.com/users/diy_discord.
- Why do a lot of your recipes on ATF look completely ridiculous? Because I'm a ridiculous person and I like to try crazy stuff. Where's the fun in mixing up something easy. Disclaimer: I also like 1-2-3's and 2 flavor bangers.
- Don't you have a life, why are you always on Discord/Reddit? I'm married
- Advice for new mixers? Read the sidebar and get into the flavor reviews. Start looking through them. Lastly join the discord!
Now that the coup is complete, how long do you anticipate it is before skynet becomes fully operational?
Also, there's this dude named John Conner, he really has it out for you just a heads up.
What's the best recipe you ever created by yourself?
Also, would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses, or 1 horse-sized duck? (Ha! In before /u/ID10-T)
First things first...can I use a weapon?
My best recipe right now is Yogi Tropic. https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/145091#yogi_tropico_by_humanpuck
It's also my first 5 star review. I can't take credit for doing it on my own, because I used Ed's yogurt base to start. I really had to tinker with it to make it work how I wanted it to, but he deserves credit for his part.
I also created my own Lemonade base that I've found has more longevity that the standard Lemonade base.
What do you consider the 'standard'? Would that be the LA Lemonade/INW Lemon Mix/coolant blend/INW Cactus(optional) or something else?
And we'll assume no flamethrowers, explosives, or firearms. No projectile weapons against the big one, either. (Rate of fire would preclude most of them against the little horses, so...)
As a mixer with a little experience, how has the Reddit and or discord helped you grow as a mixer?
This is a good question. I think the biggest thing is that I've been encouraged to try new things and figure out profiles if like to try. I used to stick with fruits and only fruits. Now I'm trying all kinds of things including pastries, deserts, cakes and things I never had the confidence to attempt before.
Another big help has been the understanding of top notes, offnotes and bases. Little things to make the juice better like using cactus to make fruit mixes more juicy. Overall this community has helped me grow exponentially as a mixer.
How many flavors do you actually have?
Not that many, I'll be right around 200 by the end of this week.
Yeah, that's reasonable IMO. I think two more orders for me and I won't need anything new, just replenish the old stuff.
What is your all time favorite flavor?
If you could create a recipe that sums up your state what would it be?
Hmmmm, how do sum up winning at sports every year. Something with Champagne Cola SC probably. Then I'd need some red, white and blue. So some FA forrest fruit and some a touch of INW lemon mix. I'd call it Title-Town USA.
Community mixing is fun but how do you feel the adage, “too many chefs...”, plays into community recipe development?
If you had to live 6 months with access to 3 flavors only, which would you choose?
Also Batman or Joker?
For some reason I like the idea of apple cola, maybe INW Shisha Golden Apple would fit well with it's "stingy" scent/taste.
Would you tell me more of how you imagine this apple cola?
FA Fuji, inw grapes aaaaand VT yoghurt drink
Red Hood
So from what I remember it was a golden color, a little darker than ginger ale. I was an apple soda with some of that coke spice.
Could we get a clarification on which Joker? Heath Ledger Joker >> Jared Leto Joker, for example...
Jack Nickolson >> Heath Ledger >> no clue who that is.
Do you put WF Sour Blue Raspberry Candy in things that aren't a blue raspberry profile?
Yes! Yes I do. I use it in sour fruit profiles.
If you’re like me (and a lot of other people) you got into mixing for a few reasons one being saving money. What changed that you turned the corner to be a hobbyist and collector? How has that changed your enjoyment (in assuming) of mixing?
I'd say it was all the flavors. When I discovered all the flavors and all the different recipes, I realized what was possible. That led me to this sub, which in turn led me to the discord server. I am always mixing now, because the possibilities are endless...Kheer!
I always was hesitant to jump into the conversation because it seemed like I had nothing to contribute. It’s like every thing I was doing had been done long ago.
How do you suggest newcomers who want to participate in conversation get started so they aren’t invisible or permalurking?
But you have nothing to lose. Nobody will ridicule you and your input is valuable. If you say what you're thinking it might reinforce what somebody else is thinking, which may empower them to speak up as well. Look at music, a lot of things were done long ago, but sampling that old stuff is huge.
Is there a flavor most people cap on but you secretly like?
With all the mixing information out there, what’s the best way for a newcomer or novice to start giving back?
Start sharing things you've learned and start collaborating with others. Even small things, like suggestions and things you've heard. Most of all, don't be afraid to contribute, no matter how new you are you can contribute to the community.
Sometimes I wish new people would do reviews of flavors that are on the first order list. Like I’d love to see a newcomer buy those 20 flavors and write a review of all twenty sft’ed and a few for the recommended recipes.
Because I sure as hell am not about to do it even though I’ve probably tried like 3 of them.
Do you think u/isuamadog asks enough questions? grin
I’m going to make a recipe and name it after you. What should the flavor profile be or which ingredient(s) must it include?
I really like drink profiles, summary limeade types including FA Aurora.
PS I'm honored
I'm going to try remixing your Fizzy Sherb/FA Aurora limeade but replacing the two other FA limes with VT Persian Lime and replacing the strawberry trinity with just FLV Boysenberry. Maybe add a little WS-23.
