Week VI
How much did you enjoy or NOT enjoy some of the single flavor concentrates that you had tried in the past week? Just give us an idea how much you liked it. If you want to go into a bit of detail, that's cool. :) You don't have to give a percentage or a full on review. It's always interesting to see what people are trying these days!

Also, saw that Nicotine River is having a sale on concentrates! So that might make for lots of responses in the next couple of threads. Hooray for us for the discounts!!

FOOTNOTE: I won't be contributing to this week's post. Seems like my order for empty bottles is taking much longer to arrive than I'd thought. And using one that had tobacco-based in some of my used ones, afraid it would taint the results.
Already answered in the What are You Vaping Thread? but this seems like a better place for it.
Best: WF Sour Watermelon Candy, WF Sour Blue Raspberry Candy, and WF Green Hard Candy (aka Green Jolly Candy).
Second Best: CAP Candied Watermelon, OoO Blue Raspberry Candy, and CAP Green Apple Hard Candy.
Interesting: WF Sour Ball Candy, WF Chews Candy, WF Lemon Orange Rice Candy, WF Pina Colada Candy, OoO Hard Candy (Raspberry), FW Hard Candy, WF Candy Stick Candy, FW Jawbreaker, TFA Coconut Candy, and Ooo Watermelon Candy Rocks (Fizz).
Meh: FLV Candy Roll, OoO Melon Hard Candy, OoO Happy Rancher (aka Happy Hard Candy) Watermelon, TFA Watermelon Candy, FW Watermelon Candy, WF Banana Candy, WF Pineapple Candy, OoO Hard Candy (Cherry), TFA Blueberry Candy, and TFA Pear Candy.
Worst: WF Dweeb Candy, OoO Raspberry Candy, OoO Mango Candy, OoO Butterscotch Candy, and TFA Grape Candy.
tfa grape candy is such a bad flavor that i almost gave up mixing as it was in my very first mix and it came out damn near toxic it was so artificial and floral :(
is there a better way to get a grape jolly rancher profile?
I've never tried to make a Grape Jolly Rancher recipe so I can only theorize. But if I wanted to make one, I'd start with SC Grape. It pretty much tastes like a Grape Blow Pop (the outside, minus the gum). So you can see where I'd want to try to build a Jolly Rancher starting there. I'd want it to be sharper than a blow pop though, more acidic. TFA Sour sucks for that, but FLV Sour Apple is great at it, if you keep it low enough get just the sour and not the apple. Next I want it to really taste like a Jolly Rancher and those have that glossy hard candy quality, so FW Hard Candy, but only a light touch, because too much can get super gnarly. Next I want it to be even sweeter, because it is a candy recipe. I could use CAP Super Sweet, but FW Grape Soda has almost as much sucralose and would enhance the grape a bit.
So for version 1 I'd go with...
- 4% SC Grape
- 0.25% FLV Sour Apple
- 0.5% FW Hard Candy
- 0.75% FW Grape Soda
Then if it wasn't perfect, I'd make a new batch adjusting those %s as needed. But I wouldn't adjust by more than 0.5% plus or minus of the SC Grape or 0.25% plus or minus of any of the other ingredients at a time.
You've been busy! Are you sick of candy vapes yet? :)
The TFA apple pie and the FA labyrinth are both a solid meh lol. Both mixed on 3/21. The labyrinth is weird, it has like a waxy note to it. Pretty sure it was in a funfetti juice I regret buying last yr. The pie is so close to being rounded, but it's missing half the crust.
Nic River having 420 sales now too? Lol nice.
SC Green Apple at 2.5%
Vaping in the Centaur at day 20. This is a pretty bad apple flavor. Just slightly a green apple. Definitely red in here too. Just not in the same class as Fuji, CAP Double Apple, or INW Two Apples. Has the earthy texture of pear so it tastes more like one of those freaky apple-pears. Somewhat grainy texture in the body sort of like getting a bite of apple seeds/core. Good sweetness. No tartness. A touch dry. Not very bright at all, like a dulled down green apple. Fairly weak for an SC flavor - I wouldn't hesitate to take this up to 4%. No cooling. No menthol. No anise. Overall it's disappointing and I'm glad I only got a 3ml. OTOH this might be a good adjunct for a tobacco or hops where the seedy aspect of this is going to be hidden by other flavors.
Somehow I am not getting to test a lot of the flavors, which I have ordered since I started diy a few months ago, as a single flavor.
After my first order that was mostly random FLV flavors, with some gems between them (e.a. lemon tea and green tea) I mostly order for interesting recipes that I find.
But by now I already have about 140 flavors and I am beginning to reorder some in 30ml bottles.
Also I am just starting to mix own recipe ideas from which I might present one or two to the public soon when I mix up the next batch with some adjustments.
But regarding your bottle issue: I read somewhere here about soaking used bottles in water with baking powder. I rinse the bottles with water, put them in a bowl with water and a package of baking powder (NOT baking soda) let them sit for two hours, and then rinse them again.
I did this today for the second time and my PET bottles have no more smell afterwards.
TFA Horehound at 4%
Vaping in the Pulse 22 at 30W, day 14. At 4% this flavor is very hard to taste anything other than a light menthol with a very subdued "herbal mashmallow" something in the background. It smells of licorice but I don't get much, if any, anise on the vape. Some people describe horehound as a root-beer type of flavor but I don't get that either. The herbal backnote is subtle enough that even describing it as herbal could be misleading. It's almost a neutral grain type of flavor, or perhaps a mild chamomile tea. Slightly woody and smooth/creamy. I've been thinking it would pair nicely with apple and help boost the pulpy part. Zero throat hit on this flavor. Medium wetness and sweetness. No mint. Just menthol. No boozyness. This flavor should be a great mixer for fruits and tobaccos. At 4% here the menthol is on the lighter side, even in this airy RDA. Could probably go up to 7% in a tank before it starts getting too cold.
Oh Sweet Seductive Satan in Space, Horehound flavoring sounds awful. The candy is bad enough as it is. Bitter and unique is the only thing I describe it as IRL.
I thought you were talking about a TFA candy flavor, then realized you are talking about horehound candies. I've read about them but never had 'em.
It's actually a pretty nice vape if you like menthol.
Stixx mixx Italian Roast at 8%

the single flavor was a little rough out of the shake. Previously tried the french roast and enjoyed that solo a bit more. I felt like this was a bit more grainy like taste and could use some help from some cream. I added tpa bav cream at 1 and let it sit for a week. It's turned into a nicer blend with hints of cinnamon. Now for the life of me, i can't remember if i added anything else in there and am a little irritated since it's really smooth right now. Probably should have steeped the solo longer, but was too damn excited. I may have to do this all over again now.
Edit: 98% positive I added a wee bit of a 10% dilution of rich cinnamon
TFA- Cherry Extract @ 2%. Not bad, but a little light at this percentage. I started low to avoid cough drop flavor. It's nice though. I can see this layered with another cherry to make a better one. I'm going to up the percentage and try it again. But so far I like it.
.
My first cherry flavor when I started was OOO Happy Rancher. It was pretty much Ludens throat lozenges. I tested that at the same time I was trying TFA Apple Candy. That was so gross.
Ordered some Inawera's as I ran out of their pineapple, but whoever orders exactly what they need when ordering flavours?
Mostly mixed at 2-3 drops per 5 ml.

Pink Panther: Not very impressed, could probably have been mixed higher. Tastes like cheap generic candy, as the sugary taste of it dulls my taste papillae for anything else in there.
Garden of Eden: The new name for Cherries & Apple apparently. I taste their first apple in there, which I was not impressed by and tasting it again scared me a bit, but luckily it is no more than a note in here. So now it is sweet red warming cherry, with the freshness of apple juice Will probably do fine as a lazy simple single mix.
Mango & Tango: At first there was quite a bit of unripe mango rind in there. But within a couple of hours/that disappeared. Weird thing is when I first fill up there is quite a bit of juicy mango, later on I mostly just taste sweet sweet pineapple. Refill, bam Mango! Later, hey where did that Mango go, but hmmm pineapple.

I was somehow craving cherries lately so I ordered two of their cherries:
Cherry: Definitely like Haribo Cherry candy. Which is great.
Cherries: Definitely like a more natural cherry drink (made me think of a certain cherry soda), which is also great.
Both should probably get me through until my cherry tree has cherries in abundance and the race between me and the birds start trying to eat cherries (spoiler: the birds win).
LOL! Quite the ending. And it's not only the cherries that they enjoy. We have a grape vine that never has a ripe grape upon it.
And kudos for vaping through the initial tastes you get from a flavoring. One of my favorite mixes is a bit off-putting at first, but then the tobacco in it fades and it's quite good.
P.S. I like the story-tone of your response, btw.
You could try netting them. But got to do that in time. Don't be like my parents, that's a lot of sparrows at the neighbours roof, maybe we should get the net, 10 minutes later, oh guess we are too late.

I am totally over the Garden of Eden. Filled my tank with the remainder of the tester. But it's all that horrible apple flavour now. It is kind of amazing how they've managed to take all the horrible parts of a horrible apple juice and made a flavouring out of it.
