FW Butterscotch Ripple - Weird urine-like off note
submitted over 6 years ago by PHRENESE

Finally purchased this flavor and single tasting it, I get a strange urine-like (maybe light ammonia) taste mainly on the exhale. I thoroughly shaked the bottle and the smell is ok, no problem. With a tongue test, it tastes a bit like pineapple, so I guess this urine note can remind of it, for those who see what I mean.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if some of you had this same experience? I find it weird since this flavor seems to be loved by everyone. Also, if you had this same issue, did you still manage to use this flavor in mixes and "hide" this off note?

FW Butterscotch Ripple is a steeper isn't it. I had a weird taste from it at 3%. Since then I've lowered my percentage and let it steep at least 2 weeks and its great.

Thanks for your insight.
I single-flavor tested it at roughly 6% (in order to be in the same ballpark as this report from the sidebar's flavor reviews) and yeah, first as a shake'n'vape, and was of course gonna wait a week or so to take some more notes. But this off taste was really worrying me, as I encountered the same kind of issue with some pineapple flavors, even after a good steep.

Thanks again for the hope, I was pretty sad potentially being unable to enjoy what seemed to be a delicious flavor to nearly everyone else

A lot of pineapple concentrates have off notes for me too. Have you tried MB Funky Pineapple? It's the best I've tried, - I've found it helps to add 1-2% of TFA Sweet Raspberry or something that provides a little sweetness but doesn't overtake the pineapple. TFA Strawberry also works.

Never tried MB Funky Pineapple, thank you for the suggestion. I love pineapple IRL and would really like to find a flavor I can enjoy vaping. Glad (or not, in fact) I'm not alone tasting these off notes, it doesn't seem to be the case for most people.

Also thanks for the TFA Sweet Rasp and Straw trick, will try them for sure!

Finally, if anyone is interested, I got the most off notes from FA Pineapple and CAP Golden Pineapple

It needs to steep. It is not a shake and vape.

Thanks, and yes I know but as written above, some pineapple gave me the same piss-like off taste and it persisted after steeping

As written above, you said you tasted the actual flavor on your tongue and you got pineapple. You didn't say anything about after steeping. How long did you wait?

Not sure to have understood your question : as I replied to chemb2, it was after 24h, so practically, shake'n'vape. I knew Ripple needed to steep but was worried since it reminded me of the urine-like off note of some pineapple flavors which, for me, doesn't fade away after a steep. Hence my posting here, right after my first early tasting.

I'll update my report after the 2 weeks mark and see if the off note faded away.

Thanks again.

How do you know what piss tastes like?

You've never taken a swig of piss out of a beer bottle early in the morning after a rager?

I mean at house parties I just usually piss in the toilet or the garden

Has it spoiled? Too old? It's corn syrup+.

There is no corn syrup in Butterscotch Ripple

Doesn't look like it, nor smell like it. Smell is ok, it's just an off note on the exhale and a pineapple-like effect when tongue testing.
