After perfecting my first recipe, Shinto, I thought I'd go back to the drawing board on my second, from 5 months ago.
The original felt lacking in many areas, but at the time, I didn't know what to do with it to make it into the taste I imagined;
A cold, fresh, blueberry-kiwi fizzy cocktail.
So, here we go.
- FW Blueberry 5.5%
- INW Cactus 0.5%
- TFA Dragonfruit 1%
- VT Fizzy Sherbet 1%
- CAP Hibiscus 0.75%
- FW Kiwi 2.5%
- FW Pink Bubbly (formerly Pink Champagne)
- FW Sweetener 0.5%
- WS-23 0.5%
FW Blueberry - like sweet, squeezed candy blueberries. Just the kind I want. But how to enliven the blue-ness? The berry-ness? Thanks to some mad experiment 3 years ago by [deleted], the key is
CAP Hibiscus. Really? Well, it works. Smell them side by side and it all makes sense. That's what it needed. Tested the mix at 0.5% (totally fine), 0.75% (excellent), and 1% (too noticeable). What a concept.
FW Kiwi - The wet, dark green pulp of the fruit. It's never complete without some compliments, though. It's missing that tart kick, so of course we'll add
INW Cactus and TFA Dragonfruit, to fluff and emulse and juicify and tart it all.
When it comes to fizziness, my first soda vape was /u/ID10-T's 1-2-3 Cranberry Sprite, which is still a rotating ADV favorite of mine. But I'd also experimented a lot with FW Pink Bubbly, which worked really well with fruits. So why not half and half? 1% of VT Fizzy Sherbet and 1% FW Pink Bubbly works immensely well.
FW Sweetener is my go-to for sweetener due to it's chemical simplicity, but if you're a CAP Super Sweet fan, sub it for 0.25%.
WS-23 for the coolness of the slush.
Please enjoy and let me know how you like it.
What PG/VG ratio do you use? And how long do you steep for?
I normally use 60pg/40vg, and I try to steep for at least 2 days (but I'm impatient)
Can I request a raspberry ginger ale? I've played with TFA ginger ale & raspberry sweet with a touch of inw raspberry, but it loses flavor so quick. 36 hours and it's really muted.
Step 1: Go to the Flavor of the Week archive (right sidebar) and select Ginger.
Step 2: Read all of it, absorb all the various notes and look for flavors that match your profile.
Step 3: Go to alltheflavors.com, go to Flavors, and search Ginger Ale. There are apparently 8 different Ginger Ales.
Step 4: Go to Google and search "(Flavor Company) Ginger Ale diy_ejuice", first result is typically a review from this subreddit. Do this for all the flavors and absorb the info from each one, if the review is present. If not, you can find reviews on the vendor site or from bullcityflavors.
Doing this could help you nail the right Ginger Ale on the first purchase. But, you could just go all-out and be a ginger ale guinea pig, trying all 8 at various percentages. Your reviews could be the first and most useful.
Or, drop the Ginger Ale flavor entirely. It would be much easier to find a working Ginger flavor thanks to work from /u/Loonicorn420, then to combine that with go-to fizzers like VT Fizzy Sherbet and FW Pink Bubbly.
Based off his notes, I would order FLV Ginger.
As for raspberry, I would go no further than INW Raspberry. It truly shines when paired with FA Fuji in my experience.
So, here's what would be my first test.
- FLV Ginger 1.5%
- VT Fizzy Sherbet 1.5%
- FW Pink Bubbly 0.5%
- INW Raspberry 2%
- FA Fuji 0.5%
- WS-23 0.5%
Please try it and let me know what you think. Apologies in advance if it doesn't turn out great, but in my experience with most of these, it should come out quite tasty.
