As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week's flavor is... HARD CANDY!
How did that get to be the FOTW?
It was requested! If you're not interested in the upcoming FOTWs, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that). Please request something more suitable for August than Eggnog; if you do, your request can cut in line ahead of that one.
Past FOTW posts can be found here
The NOTED podcasts, which are basically video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

#One more thing:
None of these flavors have been requested recently, I think some of them have never been requested. Maybe you just don't want them to be FOTW, and that's fine. But it's been brought to my attention that they haven't been addressed here in recent history. Here they are just in case someone wants to request them wink nudge:
- Other specific types of candy. Gummy candy has been done, hard candy is coming up next week, what about other candies? Sugary, powdery candies that aren't hard or gummy? Chewy candies like taffy and starbursts that aren't gummy or hard? What's your favorite type of candy that we haven't covered in in a year or so, or ever?
- Custard Apples (cherimoya, soursop, guanabana)
- Jackfruit
- Papaya
Way better than what I came up with, Dave. Ha!
Candied Watermelon around 5% is delish. I've been using 4/4 Candy Watermelon FW and Candied Watermelon Cap to great success. Throw some FLV Wild Melon on top 1-1.5% and easy peasy.
Sour Blue Raspberry Candy by WF is excellent as well. I like it 4-6%. I like pumping up that raspberry with FA Raspberry around 1.5%, and also throwing around 0.5% FA Candy/ Jammy Wizard at it. 0.75% HS Blueberry and now you're rolling.
4-6% Sour Blue Rasberry candy WF or Blue Raspberry LB at 8%.
FA Raspberry 1.5%
FA Candy/Jammy Wizard 0.5%
HS Blueberry 0.75%
Throw a little lemon in there and you're gucci.
I'm not very versed in candies (yet) but I've been having a lot of fun playing with different combos.
> Sour Blue Raspberry Candy by WF is excellent as well.
Fixed that for ya ;) Or maybe not. I have WF I've read a lot of people really like it. I was sorta let down by it. But hey, its definitely better than TFA Blue Razz..

Thanks for doing this all the time!
I remember first tasting Purilum Watermelon. I coulda swore it was exactly like one of those Jolly Rancher sticks. You know, the flat candy bar shaped ones? It wasn't very sweet but it was clear. I mean I tasted it clearly with nothing off about it. I later tried LA which many thought was king for a long time. It wasn't good after trying Purilum first. I never really tried it in any recipes after that.
On topic... I remember mixing up something called 'lung sauce' someone posted a year or more back, only I subbed TFA Honeysuckle in in place of TFA Cotton Candy. It reminded me totally of Tavener's Black Currant Drop candies. I remember they used to come in a tin, and they were all covered in either powdered sugar or corn starch or some sort of white powder, but the icing sugar idea makes the most sense. Pretty sure any limies reading this thread would know the candies I'm describing.
