I'm new to diy ejuice and got all my supplies besides my scale from nicotine river, well in the process of trying different recipes I found they all had an off taste to it. Trying different things on their own I've narrowed it down to my PG, it has a very bitter cringe worthy taste to it, is this normal? Will it fade away with steeping? My mixes are 70/30 3mg if that helps.
Some people just do not tolerate pg well, like myself. I use pg based flavourings (because there isn't a choice really) and that is fine but I find if I add any more pg at all my juice is bitter, has after taste and it also feels weird on my skin - as in the little bit that builds up on my face during the day vaping actually causes irritation.
To compensate for the thickness of vg I just use a little bit of water, 2-4% commonly, but you can get away with up to 10 % which I guess you'd need for a device that wicks poorly like a pod system. 10% water in a sub ohm setup isn't needed and will leave a tiny drip of water in your mouth after a puff sometimes.
Water must be pure - reverse osmosis, demineralised, triple distilled that kind of thing
No that sounds like you got some bad PG that wasn't stored right.
PG is naturally bitter
Yeah but he's tasting it in mixes too at 30%. Shouldn't be tasting that off. It can go bad from being exposed to the atmosphere for too long picking up moisture and off tastes.
I was thinking my PG might be bad as well, VG tastes as it should nice light sweet flavor and nothing else. When I'm mixing PG at 30% it isn't too bad but I definitely still have a bitter chemically taste. Kind of a bummer cause I just received the bottle yesterday. I suppose I'll be getting my PG from other vendors. Do you have anyone you'd recommend I'd get my PG from?
Ive has the same experience with their pg so I bought from essential depot on amazon. But, the Vg at Nic river is bangin
What are you mixing? If you don't have a scale how do you know what percentages you're mixing? What base is your nic and what strength? PG is supposed to be bitter and most flavors are suspended in PG as well.
Have you tried a shake and vape with just a 70\30 mix no nic, no flavors?
If that still tastes bitter then I'd contact NR. They have very good customer service & should replace\compensate if there's any issues.
NicRiver's PG smells like nail polish remover, has to be the worst PG I've tried.
It is bitter and unpleasant to me but I'm also sensitive to it. So I wouldn't say it's out of the ordinary at all. I have to vape 25%PG/75 VG or higher if I'm using an RDA. 70/30 only in a tank. Otherwise I get nauseated, sore throat and feel like crap.
