Flavorah Pink Guava = onion juice?

hey,

I just got my order of different new flavors, and while there are some I like, and some I dislike, I never had a flavor like Pink Guava. It straight smells like old rotten onions, decomposing in their own juice.

I tried to make a 10ml batch @ 1% and it stills smells like that...gag reflex. I asked my wife what she thinks (without telling her what I smelled), and she also said: onions.

So, whats wrong with that stuff? I'm so happy right now that I ordered 30ml because there where no 10ml bottles available...

I get a nice cat piss smell from mine but at like .5% it's ain't bad

hmm...sounds delicious. Maybe add some cat litter to your mix? :D

Honestly I don't know what's worse. Cat piss....rotten onions...I can't decide...

Email Flavorah about it. See if they have any other reports with this issue on this particular flavor. It's possible they just made a bad batch or gave you and older lot of that flavor.

I had a bottle of Peanut Butter that tastes like chemical gas. I emailed them and they told me they haven't heard of anyone having an issue with the flavor and they offered to send me a new one free of charge to see if i still tasted the same thing. New bottle tastes exactly how everyone else described it, like peanut butter.

You haven't missed much. Still that huge influx of folks here, with the same old repetitive questions.....

Recently a few new threads have been started that have livened the sub up somewhat tho. DIY Digest, Hotseat Sunday, etc. Hope to see you come around more!

Thanks for the advice. I think my first stop should be Chefs, since they re-bottle as far as I know.

But maybe it's just me and my nose in the end...

Could be just you. If they offer to send a replacement it would likely come from the same lot so you'd taste the exact same thing.

Chefs. But I never had any problems with them and I ordered 60+ flavors from them so far.

Chefs is a top-tier vendor, for sure. But mistakes are bound to happen. I'd reach out to them just to make sure you didn't somehow get a bottle of FA Pineapple with a FLV Pink Guava label slapped on it--that's the only flavor I can think of that legit smells like onion.

Guava is a weird one, seems to smell amazing to half of people in my shop, the other half immediately say ammonia or cat piss.

some people just can't handle the flavor. graham went off for a good few minutes on the second to last noted show about it. but he was complaining about that pine-y scent.

Some people report more of a Grapefruit flavor, but I get ........ Guava, and no cat piss complaints like I and others get from TFA Guava. I got mine in in an OG Flavorah bottle.

To me it tasted like beer made with added grapefruit, or grapefruit fermented with hops. Actually every FLV flavor I've had so far tasted much better after 2-3 weeks steep and this one was no exception. Definitely no rotten onions, though I doubt I'll ever use even a quarter of the 30ml I got.

Guava is well known for smelling like cat piss. Maybe your nose detects that as onions?

That's absolutely possible. I once had a tobacco juice which tasted to me like someone pissed into a campfire, so I gave it away. That person really liked it...

Are you a fan of eating/smelling actual guavas? If so, Flavorah Pink Guava shouldn’t make you gag.

Well, yes, I actually like the fruit itself. I always eat in when I'm in Thailand, and they have some really good guava juice there too.

I also have CAP sweet guava, and this one is pretty solid. A little too syrupy for my taste, but absolutely no off-notes.

It doesn't smell great. However, it has it's uses. It's very good in this recipe by Darth Vapor.
