I have high expectasians for this Flavor of the Week: Asian Tobaccos
submitted over 6 years ago by ID10-TThe Kingmaker

As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!

Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

#This week's flavor is... Asian Brand Tobaccos (Hangsen, FE/SC, Reka, etc)!

How did that get to be the FOTW?

It was requested! If you're not interested in the upcoming FOTWs, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that). Please request something more suitable for July than Eggnog; if you do, your request can cut in line ahead of that one.

Past FOTW posts can be found here

The NOTED podcasts, which are basically video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

Next week's flavor will be: Lemon

The week after that will be: Hard Candy

The week after that will be: Donuts

The week after that will be: Boysenberry

The week after that will be: Popcorn

The week after that will be: Pistachio

The week after that will be: Nut Mixes and Mixed Nuts (Macadamia, Walnut, Cashew)

The week after that will be: Anise and Black Licorice <--- I hate you OdieDoodah

The week after that will be: Exotic Spices and Spice Blends

The week after that will be: Plum

The week after that will be: Pineapple

The week after that will be: Mixed Drinks

The week after that will be: Passionfruit

The week after that will be: Rice & Horchata

The week after that will be: Eggnog <--- date on this one might get moved down

Might as well share some very rough notes copied directly from my recipe calculator:

SC M-Tobacco (M-Style)

2018/04/12 - Vaping around day 70 in the Subtank Mini at 17W. Another great SC tobacco, really enjoying this one and wish I had more than 10mls. Good tobacco leafy taste. Throaty on the inhale but not much, if any, ash note. By throaty I don't mean harshness, it just has this "smoke-like" inhale quality that "catches" in the back of the throat. Maybe it is an ash-note, just not like DNB. Direct-lung on this might be a no go. There is also a nice saline note to this in addition to a subtle caramel note. I would say there is a hint of leather as well. No menthol. No cooling. No anise or fruit, just a solid straight forward tobacco. No perfumeyness, but slightly bitter on the vape, VERY bitter on the knuckle test just like SC Parliament. Good strength at 2% and would probably push this up to 2.5 or 3% for single flavor vaping.

Thanks for the notes!

I mixed my tester of M-Style at 3% and thought it was a bit too much. Next bottle will be 2.75%. Throat hit, um humm... it's a solid flavor that reminds me of rolling tobacco with a touch of a high note. Bet it would go well with some MB Captain Rum.

Neu Parliament - A light menthol cigarette recipe

I ended up with this recipe all because of single flavor testing. How does that happen? Well I was testing SuperConcentrated (SC) Neu Port flavor and it wasn't what I expected. I bought the flavor without knowing that Newports are menthol cigarettes. Duh. I'd never smoked them before and thought it would be a regular Virginia flavor like the Canadian Players or Du Mauriers I used to smoke.

I wasn't expecting menthol at all, but didn't mind since I really love menthol. What wasn't working for me though was that the tobacco flavor was too weak at 2%, but there was too much throat hit at 3%. Realizing that I was never going to use up this flavor on it's own, I decided to keep it low and supplement the tobacco base with a few more flavorings.

It all came together rather quickly and I had the recipe nailed down in 3 or 4 tries, which is something of a record for me. The first additional tobacco I reached for was SC Golden Virginia since it was my wife's solo quit-juice, and I had lots of it. Next I grabbed SC Parliament off the shelf because I hadn't tried it yet and it smelled very potent and tobacco-y. A few notes on SC Parliament: it's a very bitter flavor on the knuckle test, and it's extremely YELLOW. If you wipe up a drop of it with paper towel it actually looks like you soaked up a drop of yellow food coloring.

Once the three flavorings were decided on it was simply a matter of tweaking the ratios. At 2% Neu Port I couldn't really taste the other two tobaccos at 0.5% Parliament and 0.5% Golden Virginia. Rather than boost them, I dropped the Neu Port down and discovered that it was still too strong even at 1.5%. It had good sweetness and still lots of menthol but wasn't quite there yet. Next attempt was 1% Neu Port, 1% Golden Virginia, and 0.75% Parliament. BOOM. Done. I'm still vaping this 2 years later and haven't gone back to tweak anything so I think it's probably safe to call it a finished recipe. This is the only tobacco recipe that I've moved up to the 100ml club. I think it's great and hope some other people get to enjoy it as well. I usually mix this at 90/10 VG/PG even with the super low 2.75% total flavor.

Neu Parliament:

 • 1.00% SC Neu Port
 • 1.00% SC Golden Virginia
 • 0.75% SC Parliament

u/AlfredPudding turned me out on HS RY1. It's a tobacco with no nonsense. I have sft'ed it with of course no notes so going off the top of my head, it's got a slight leafiness to me that i really like. Since it's missing the RY2-5 it has room to play various roles in a mix; you can keep it dry and straight tobacco or just add your sweetness of choice and make it into a 2-5 however you please. I prefer it at 3% and find that it works well with an added ry4 @2-4% for that slightly sweet at 2 and to keep balance if you add more straight tobaccos at 4.

here's our latest creations from the discord using them:

HS RY1 is awesome.

I like just mixing around it like this one - https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/111838#criteria_by_ccivinski

I'm still trying to figure out how to divide that large number of tobacco flavors (300+) into smaller more manageable chunks.
I'm made an amatuer's attempt at it. You can see it here => https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/flavor_facts
Hopefully my sad attempt will light a spark in one of the more experienced mixers here. Please share your thoughts.

Bezuki (Indonesia / NET) by La Tabaccheria is in my arsenal now. Very dry on first try. Needs to steep before I review.

HS brings some solid aromatics to the table in my experience, some funky and difficult to utilize and many solid delicious ones. Some faves: arabic , deluxe (delicious), gold & silver, turkish, ry1. Ive got some SC ones i forgot I owned that I need to get around to trying. Mainly Dunhill I'd like to test out

Highway is good as well. They have a few more good ones but without pulling up the page I can't remember anymore. They have the weirdest names.

HS Arabic and Turkish will always have a place in my heart. Just never could make them my base without running at 7-10%.

by Civinskoover 6 years ago

That high?

Maybe that's why i can't get much out of them, tried both at 4.5% tops i think.

by amouthforwarover 6 years ago

they perform pretty well at around 5% IMO but that is a thing with asian concentrates, they tend to be a little weak. At least the big name brand stuff that ends up being easier to get out here in the states

I didn't really dig CBV's stuff using Arabic and Turkish sadly, which is specifically why i bought them.

Would you share how you are using those?

by amouthforwarover 6 years ago

I fuckin' adore his Three Cities mix tbh, perfect representation of what those two can do with a nice smooth almond over the top of it all. To be fair though, I've only ever used it in a kayfun prime so that's my only reference, not sure how it vapes on other atties. I've

I've used Turkish up to about 4-5% in another mix that was modeled after menthol Camels and that one turned out pretty damn good too. Paired with FLV Classic Cigarette and some INW S'camel for EM & AP, was a nice dry semi-sweet cigarette. EDIT: given your post maybe you've actually tried the mix. I really fucking love oriental style tobacco flavors, that nice spiciness and pepperish notes, some folks may just not have an affinity for it.

1 points

by Civinskoover 6 years ago

I like spiciness, pepper not so much.

I guess it might be because i don't mtl, still at relatively low wattages/restricted airflow, but not mtl.

Guess I'll try and throw in every concentrate i own that's named Turkish together and see what happens haha

not sure if this technically counts, but i missed the other tobacco threads so wth.

anyone try TFA RY4 Asian? if so, how does it compare to ry4 double (or even the RY4 profile in general)?

1 points

by ID10-Tover 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

I hated it, it’s weird and kind of spicy and chemically and fruity and doesn’t taste anything like what I think of when I think of RY4 (rich, sweet caramel with vanilla and tobacco)

2 points

by TBoner101over 6 years ago

good to know, as now I can cross it off the list and don't have to buy it. TFA really is a dud when it comes to tobaccos (except for RY4 Double of course, which doesn't really count).

Have you tried Black Honey (Tobacco)?

2 points

by ID10-Tover 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

Yes. It's not gross. It has a nice dark honey taste and a dirty/smokiness that isn't really a tobacco any more than the dirty aspect of their RY4 Double is a tobacco, but it tastes like it would go really well with real tobaccos. Unfortunately I get a touch of a licorish-y note in it that turns me off it, but a lot of people either don't taste that in it or don't mind it, so you might want to check that one out.
