Does oxidisation of nicotine actually affect the strength or taste substantially?
submitted over 6 years ago by Christian159260

I've heard people say that if the nicotine has become yellow it doesn't matter.

It depends on the extent, bht it certainly will affect taste. Not really gonna affect strength much in most cases. Also, color isn't the best way to judge. Some nic will be slightly yellowish and be no more oxdized than a crystal clear nic. And nic salts (especially depending on the acid used in the mix) can be discolored dramatically without oxidization problems.

I was going to say this too. My first nic order I got a bottle of pepper sauce (I suspected it was old). I could tell from my first drag of DIY that my nic was bad.

That's where I saw the Leprechaun. He tells me to burn things.

It makes it taste like nasty spicy burning or maybe even a flavor of fish? Anyone else get the fish?

The fish was from a batch I received partially oxidized that oxidized even more after bad storage ..

I've never heard of this before. It's an nteresting take on the matter though. Rotten tuna nic would be so gross lol.

The smell was almost exactly like you said except a bit more fresh? Like maybe how fresh Tuna that's been sitting in the market for a few hours smells. Definitely not rotten but still really fishy and not good in any way. Just smelling the raw nic itself had this scent lol.

The strength? No. The flavor? Definitely, if it's oxidized to the point of being harsh.

Still tastes fine to this day, extremely orange though: https://ibb.co/0mJx2Z4

It does and it depends how much you use, naturally. 36mg gonna be far worse off than some 3mg batch with the same concentrate.

I doubt it. But I think oxidized nic changes the taste with pepper and is a little harsher. Some folks like throat hit though

My freebase nic has turned a pretty dark amber from me shaking it and oxidizing it so much.

Haven't noticed any kind of harshness or off flavor. I vape everything from complex cakes/creams flavors to fruits and candy. Never affected the flavor for me. Also I dont believe the nicotine itself breaks down, so it hasn't affected the strength for me either, and I like it kind of strong. I usually mix at 8 %
