Flavors
submitted over 6 years ago by jay0525

I just found this thread. As suggested, I read the FAQ before posting. The FAQ listed popular flavors, but the FAQ did not discuss the origin of these flavors. What are ejuice flavors (e.g., food extracts, essential oils, etc.?). Do they differ from food flavorings? How would I go about formulating these flavors? (I assume they can be bought, but this is "DIY", so I am curious as to how I might "do it myself").

I apologize if I missed this information in the FAQ or in one of its links. First time here.

Keep reading... jkjk. Technically you can make them yourself but to make them properly so they’re vapable is not something that makes sense in terms of time or money that’s why we buy theflavors and make the juice. Tbh you pretty much need a chemistry degree anyway to be safe to do it yourself. The best flavors are manufactured anyway believe it or not if you’re thinking in terms of natural, natural isn’t what you think if you think directly from a fruit it’s just marketing. So, keep reading because I promise you didn’t read everything and enjoy your vape! ....;)

Yes, that sounds like good advice. I am new to this (switched to vaping a year ago, and just thought about making juice). I'm glad Reddit provides this resource.

This sub isn't that active anymore from what I can see, but the information you're looking for is probably here. Spoiler alert: it's probably much more difficult than you're assuming.

I don't assume it's easy; but I have made essential oils from a still, and flavor extracts (with VG). I don't know what form flavors in vape juice take; I have to know that before I know whether it's easy.

They are not extracts. They are artifical flavors. Extracts cannot be vaped

Well, they can be vaped. Whether or not they should be vaped depends on how it was done.

some people do make their own natural fruit flavors by soaking them in PG or alcohol

but its not recommended because vaping organic compounds can be harmful like oils which can also be extracted.

lots of people do make their own NET (naturally extracted tobacco) which lots of people swear by though.

making your own artifical flavors which are what we all use generally is very complicated and you need access to hundreds of different chemicals to make a simple flavor so do what we do and just buy them

Think there is a video on YouTube about soaking coffee grounds in PG to get a coffee flavor concentrate.

Coffee is one thing you should not be doing unless you have access to filtration equipment.

Fr, rip to those coils lol. I'd throw cinnamon in that regards too. Any cinimon flavored juice I've ever gotten over the counter straight has particles of cinnamon floating around in it and is a huge coil killer.

I have a flavor source that many of the big name shops use, if you want contact info (and you're serious), PM me.

I quit nicotine about 9 months ago, but I used this mfr for over 3 years prior.

I've noticed on Nicotine River, when you scroll down at the very bottom of the screen of a certain flavor concentrates, they list all of the chemical compounds present. It also indicates any presence of Diacetyl, Acetoin or Acetyl Propionyl (DAAP). Guess if it's that important, you can use a gas chromatagraph or fractional distillation.

If you want to know more about what extraction or flavor combination processes are used, you are going to learn it's like the Coca-Cola recipe... a trade secret.

Well, I have made Coca-Cola. (Recipe here https://www.thisamericanlife.org/427/original-recipe). Now I want to make vape juice.
