Scale for mixing by weight?
submitted over 6 years ago by GA_Magnum

Although I'm from Europe I wouldnt mind importing the LB 501 if its really as good as so many people say. Yes, I've also seen a handful of negative comments, but most of them were praising the thing. Any other recomendations, or should I go for it?

well, I've came here to praise LB 501 too. I haven't tried other scales, but really happy with LB 501.

I just got mine, from Amazon, it arrived last Sunday. I'm happy with it, and love that it came with calibration weights and a wall plug. Calibrated it right away(it was about 10 grams off per 200g) and it's been good since the calibration.

Wow, I've never calibrated my scale so I just did and it was spot on. But I kind of guessed that already. I've never mixed a bottle that looked short or overflowed :)

I picked one up about a month ago and I like it because it plugs in, so I don't have to worry about it shutting off from idling, or dealing with batteries at all. It took me a bit to figure out the screen has a backlight - I was super bummed it didn't have one, almost reverting back to the scale I got from Wizard Labs (don't remember the model, but it served me well for a while) until I realized the little blue button turns it on!

My only complaint about the lb501 is the size, as it's a bit bulkier than it needs to be for our purposes unless you're mixing large batches. That said, there's nothing earth-shatteringly amazing about it, so if you find another scale that fits all your needs I'm sure it won't be any setback. Is it harder to find vendors for it over on the other side of the Atlantic? Because over here it's like $25 on Amazon, so it's just a no-brainer to grab one.

There is literally no vendor. Thanks for the answer, I'll grab one

Can’t comment on that scale, but I’ve been using this one for 3 years and it’s gotten the job done.

Does that acquire -fast- and register single drops? That's a heck of a good price for a home use only DIY scale ...

I dunno about fancy scales much - I bought one from Wish that goes for .0 g precision. Costed next to nothing, works alright. I do wish I had picked one of the ones that did .00 g (they also had those), but I just kind of eye the difference. It's just flavours and just for myself, so it doesn't really matter if it varies a tiny bit

i use the 501 - it's absolutely perfect for the job provided you're mixing less than 500 grams worth of liquid at a time. Which most people are. I have tried less expensive ones and honestly they worked great, but the 501 is probably the most rugged and it's nice to have the powered and battery options. I think most of the sales out there these days are pretty good to be honest, the main difference is usually how much liquid is the max.

Just get an accurate scale that measures .01grams. The 501 is a good scale sure. It's also pretty big. I much prefer a smaller flat scale with a lighted digital display. I still use it though depending on what I'm mixing.
