Hey DIY_eJuice Reddit so i bought a "shake and vape" it had 30ml of Aroma i added my nicotine shots and base. I only had 80/20 Base. Can i use a bit of distilled water to thin out the Juice ? and how much would you recommend ?
You can.
It isn't the best approach, and really use tiny amounts. Water in a mix can lead to problems with spitback and such. But it will thin a juice. However... Typically nicotine is in a PG base. Most flavors are in PG base. So chances are you're already closer to 60% VG than 80% VG, so how much thinner do you want to go?
My nicotine shots were also 80/20 labeled. Im from europe and we Need to add nicotine to everything we cant buy liquids or base that are more then 10ml with nicotine. Thats why we have 50/50 70/30 and 80/20 nicotine shots.
Im not talking about thin like water just a bit so i dont have to open my Juice Control on my kayfun 5v2 to the max and Need to wait until it wicks
Ok, how much flavoring did you use? It's pretty simple math to work out what your current ratio is. I have no idea how well a kayfun wicks, although switching to rayon wicks will improve it. But what ratio normally works well for you?
So the bottle contained 30ml i added 2x18mg/10ml shots and about 60ml of 80/20 base and have now a bit space left in the bottle. I dont really know i just received it yesterday but it seem to let Juice in slow bubbles appeared not often since the Juice is very syrup like. and the Juice Control holes are tiny. I usually vape only rdas. and im not concerned about spitback on the kayfun since the chamber is compressed and the chimney is really thin
i put 10ml distilled water in every 100ml of ejuice i make. i use 7g flavouring and 15g 18mg pure PG nic (that’s what’s available in the UK) and the rest is 60vg40pg base mix. after plenty of experimentation this has given me the best lifespan for my coils. i vape 0.25ohm coils in a uwell crown se1 tank at 42.5w and they tend to last two weeks or more now.
You can definitely add water. I do not tolerate pg, therefore use water to thin all my juice. 10% water with no pg is the maximum I'd recommend, this does result in a little drop of water in your mouth after you chain vape several puffs, but it's enough to make a little coil with minimal wicking holes work. 5% water is enough for most sub ohm tanks. You probably only need 2% cause you already have 20% pg. If you aren't using a pod or other really small coil I'd be really surprised if you need the water at all.
Distilled is sort of ok, but ideally double distilled or more. Otherwise demineralised is good, as there is nothing dissolved in it, which is what you want. I work with demineralised water - drugs that do not have a good shelf life as a liquid are stored as powder, and demineralised water is added before they're used. As there is no dissolved salts, the chemistry is unaffected.
You can add water, though I've had issues with water and freebase nic. Water is a good carrier of o2 and can oxidize any freebase nic in minutes from my experience(several 3mg/ml mixes absolutely ruined). Salt nic is much more stable in an o2 environment and hasn't caused me any issues with water after months steeping(usually 6mg/ml and up to 50mg/ml). If you're adding to a freebase nic mix I'd avoid the water entirely and just do pg.
I use 6% water in all my Max vg/salt nic mixes as I like water more than pg. I use reverse osmosis water and haven't had an issue in over a year.
Distilled water is used to make it have a burning throat hit. Vaping large amounts of water is bad and it shouldn't make up too much of your juice.
Use PG.
Why is vaping large amounts of water bad?
Water doesn't behave like PG or VG when vaporized. It turns into steam because water molecules are much more attracted to each other then PG/VG.
When water is fully in a gaseous form it is clear. It is in the air all around you right now.
When water is steam, it is relatively large groups of water molecules (when compared to PG/VG). This is due to hydrogen bonding, water is really good at it so it sticks to other water molecules really well.
This makes it feel hotter than PG/VG so it burns more in the throat. Lots of boiling water rapidly entering your lungs hurts.
Also it doesn't have the same antimicrobial properties as VG/PG. Bacteria/virii/fungi can hitch a ride on the steam because the clumps of water molecules are large enough to carry them.
Adding a bit for a throat burny feeling is fine but having it as a major component of juice is problematic.
You can, if it's not superior to 10%. But you have to be sure to use double-distilled water, as normal distilled water is unsafe to vape.
Could you elaborate on that or maybe have a link to a source? I'm curious as I've never heard/read that before and already vaped juice with normal distilled water from a friend.
Ok, I worded it very poorly. It's not that normal distilled water it is unsafe to vape, it's just safer to vape double distilled water because it has less residues. I know of some e-juice manufacturers, especially of naturally extracted tobaccos, that recommend it (La Tabaccheria, Azhad's Elixirs, etc)
