So, I know that strawberry is a popular topic of discussion based on some searching, but I'm struggling to puzzle this out.
I'm having trouble tasting strawberry in my mixes when I vape them, but not if I taste a drop on my finger directly (like the tiniest drop).
When I taste a bit directly, it's glorious and I can taste the strawberry. Vaping, not as much. It's not that I can't taste it, the strawberry taste just seems to fade into the background, if that makes sense?
For example, I've been testing with the following recipe I've started playing around with:
- Strawberry (ripe)
- Bavarian cream 1%
- Cream 1%
- Vanilla swirl 0.5%
- Marshmallow 0.5%
I've tried the strawberry in 1% increments from 4% up to 10%, but I can barely taste it. I don't think I should go higher, because then it seems like a waste?
Tried on both single and dual coil setups, with round and Clapton wire. Freshly wicked each time. If that makes any difference.
Is there something I can try to potentially enhance the strawberry flavour? I also tried sweet strawberry but it had a worse outcome (could taste it less and it wasn't very nice!)
Any advice / tips appreciated!
welcome to the I can't taste strawberry club. I have 4 strawberry's including INW shisha strawberry and I can't taste them at all in my vape. I'm completely strawberry blind but
I can taste them if I tongue sample it. there might be a strawberry you can taste out there everyone's different,
if you can't it goes great in sprite
Not only are non-tasters a thing, but Strawberry Ripe is like the worst offender for those people. I'd recommend trying INW Shisha Strawberry, or JF Strawberry Sweet. Those are pretty potent strawberries IMO. If you want to go balls to the wall potent, you could also try FLV Alpine Strawberry, if you're willing to drop a bit of cash.
I agree. They need to drop a more robust strawberry in there. Find out if it's all in vain and are strawberry screwed lol. Recipe looks solid otherwise. If they are stricken. I would just drop some FA Forest Fruit (coming across as a newish mixer) in there instead and keep on truckin'.
So if I have used TFA strawberry ripe and can't taste it and I have a strawberries and cream that has 3 different strawberry flavorings in it, would it be worth it to sub jf strawberry sweet? The recipe has .5 FA red touch, 2 inw shisha strawberry and 3 TFA strawberry ripe
I'm not a non-taster, so I don't know really (even as a taster though, ripe is super weak to me). JF is quite different from ripe, if you've tried CAP Sweet Strawberry, it's kinda more along those lines, but richer and more syrupy. That said, red touch, shisha, and JF sweet is a great 3 banger strawberry (isn't that the 'Daveberry Trinity'? lol). It's definitely worth a go, is what I'm saying though it might not be exactly what you're after.
Yea quite a few people can't taste strawberry. Try layering your strawberry, e.g. TFA Strawberry Ripe 3%, TFA Strawberry 2%, CAP Sweet Strawberry 2% is a good trinity. If you want less candy taste, lower TFA Strawberry and CAP Sweet Strawberry a bit.
If you can't taste that, you're one of those who don't taste strawberry. Sorry, man.
I've been mixing for about a year and I came to accept I was one of the unfortunate souls who couldn't taste strawberry (never had bought a strawberry commercial juice either so I had no idea). But about 2 months ago, my buddy let me try Strawberry Jam Monster and it really took me by surprise how "authentic" and delicious it was. I'm talking a face full of juicy jammy strawberry. I have about 7 different strawberry concentrates and I can't taste a single one. Whatever the hell the Jam Monster dudes are putting in their juice I gotta get my hands on.
Flavorah has a few jam like flavors, they have "Filling" in the name. Such as Cherry Filling, Strawberry Filling. Maybe check those out?
Real Flavors has their "Jam with Toast" line, that may be what's in the Jam Monsters. Definitely tastes like it to me, anyway. There's definitely more to the strawberry profile of it than that, but it gets you a good chunk of the way there.
Shameless plug
Here is a strawberry recipe I created for strawberry tasters and non tasters alike

Post for reference to why the flavours are there and why the flavours were chosen

TIP: Do not vape your mixed vjuice within a few hours of making it or testing it's aroma. Seems like if the smell is noticeable, it tends to drown out the flavor of the vape. This could mostly be me though. Also, if you are using TFA's Bavarian Cream, seems like after a two week steep, the fruit flavors start getting covered up by it. Maybe see if you get the same problem with a Peach n Cream style mix using your listed flavors & percentages. In the end, you may have to fiddle with those ratios a tiny bit.
I'm using TFA Bavarian cream, yeah. I'll let these steep a bit more and try again. Got some recommendations for other strawberry concentrates to try, my just need to shop around for one that works for me
TFA strawberry ripe is the worst offender. Flavour Art Juicy Strawberry and Flavour Art Red touch strawberry are really similar to TFA ripe in that they are the non candy type if athat's what you're into, with Juicy being a bit sweeter.
I'll add those to my pay day order list!
Nice! I hope FA Red Touch works for you since it's really just like TFA Strawberry Ripe. I had the same problem you're having. I loved TFA Ripe's fresh harvest flavor and aroma, but I found that the flavour would vanish, and tried lowering and raising the percentage just to make it work. I read on here somewhere about FA Red Touch and gave it a whirl. It works for me really well, but strawberry is a weird one and varies from person to person.
Is the "can't taste strawberry" thing a thing with retail juices? With loaded strawberry donut I don't taste any strawberry. Same with cuttwood unicorn milk (which is in my opinion overrated and overpriced trash)
I don't know why TFA Strawberry ripe is getting the flack. Strawberry juices were the first ones I ever DIYed (mothers unicorn milk http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/121795/Mother%27s%20Unicorn%20Milk) and loved my creations. I could taste strawberry notes right from day one to a few weeks of steeping. May be I am just one of the few who can taste strawberry ripe.
Has everyone that cant taste strawberry broken or damaged thier noses? I broke my nose when i was younger (cricket bat to the face accident) and i recently went to the doctor as i cant breath out of one side of my nose properly and im just thinking it could all be linked as most of your taste is through your nose
Lol I broke my nose as a kid too!
Interesting theory!
